I love to create. The way I'm most comfortable creating is through writing; whether it's a song, a short story, a poem or a script. Writing has always been the bass line in my life; the heartbeat.

Music and film are both passions of mine. I graduated from Berklee College of Music where I studied Songwriting and Music Therapy. I was pushed to my absolute limits lyrically and musically within these majors, and I am so grateful for it now that I'm on my own creative journey.

I have a great deal of experience, but I am also still learning. I think it is very important as a teacher to always be learning, especially through their students. Teaching these lessons is, of course, about progress and advancement - but also about enjoyment, confidence building and positive encouragement.

Jaxon the Guitarist: I am a Doctoral Guitar Major at USC studying classical guitar. I have been playing the guitar for over 20 years and teaching for 15. My main style is classical, and due to the technical training I have had since I was very young, it has been very easy for me to learn and master other styles such as Flamenco, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Country. I have a passion for performing and have played hundreds of solo and ensemble concerts. As a classical performer I have won prizes in numerous competitions, including the Pacific Guitar Competition, San Francisco Guitar Competition, Sierra Nevada Competition, and the OSAA Oregon State Competition. I have played concerts all over the United States as well as in Spain and Mexico. As a performer of other styles I have played in many orig
inal and cover bands and have won high school and University level battle of the bands competitions. I was a Northwest regional finalist in Guitar Center's "King of the Blues" competition as well. I recently won a Fulbright Scholarship to study Spanish and Flamenco Guitar in Seville, Spain for 2015 and 16.

Jaxon the Teacher: I really love spreading the knowledge I've learned over the years about the guitar, bass guitar, songwriting, music theory, and everything music related to my students. I find a huge sense of fulfillment in seeing my students understand and enjoy learning and making beautiful music. Very great teacher! Extremely knowledgable on traditional and nouveau flamenco techniques. Appears very committed to the student and willing to spend time out of the sessions to make instructional videos on the material for the student to practice with. Very friendly as well!

Hi, my name is Cindi C., and I have loved music for as long as I can remember! As a child I loved to sing with the radio, and belt out hymns as loud as I could from the backyard. My mom enrolled me in dance class at the age of 3, and I loved dancing and performing! At age 7, a classmate played the piano in our music class one day, and I fell in love with it! I started taking lessons on the piano, and 3 years later started learning how to play the flute. In high school I started teaching piano lessons, and have been doing it on and off for about 30 years. My years of experience have definitely helped me to become a better teacher. I try my best to be very patient and compassionate with my students, and I tailor the lessons to meet their individual needs and goals. I want my students to have fun at their lessons, so I will play mus
ic games with them to help them memorize notes on the staff and rhythms. I also try to find out what music they like, and find music or write music that they would enjoy learning to play.

When I was in high school I decided I wanted to major in music at college and began working toward that goal. I won a piano accompaniment scholarship at Northeast Missouri State University ( now called Truman State University), and there I majored in music education. Piano was my main instrument, and flute was my secondary instrument. I played my flute in marching and concert band, accompanied many different soloists on the piano as well as our show choir, and sang in the acapella choir. I have been playing and performing ever since! Now I teach a children's choir at my church, play the flute in our church orchestra, and play in the Gainesville Flute choir. I enjoy teaching both the piano and the flute to young and old alike! I would love to share my joy of music with you!

*** Lesson Details ***
Our lessons will be a time of fun and creative ways to learn to play the music that you love! Our first lesson we will talk about your goals, and then I will recommend music methods based on those goals.

I tailor the lessons to fit each child or adults individual needs and wants. I use flashcards and play games to help you to learn your music facts, and also use a music theory book to help you learn basic music symbols and notes.

By about 6 months, you will be able to play simple pieces, be able to keep a steady beat, and know the notes on both the bass and treble clefs. At this point, I will recommend some easy solo books based on the music you would most like to play. Or if you have some favorite songs you would like to learn, I will write out the melody with a simple chord accompaniment in the left hand for you to play. You will continue to progress through the piano method levels, and we will continue to add different elements to your lessons, such as learning scales and how to play different styles of music.

I want our lessons to be fun and interesting for you, so I will do my best to help you find the music that you will enjoy playing!

I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer. I have been teaching this subject for over 17 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. Theory lessons are usually taken in conjunction with performance lessons (an instrument or voice) so they can make practical application of what they learn in theory. Beginner students start with fundamentals of notation, and tonal harmony. Lessons for more advanced students will include form, analysis, modal, tonal, and extended tonal harmony, contemporary procedures, and more. Lessons are a minimum of 60 minutes once per week. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study. Theory lessons are particularly good as extra support for classroom work.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

So far, I look forward to each lesson! Troy is very kind, yet very helpful and has helped me target on my personal goals with opera while also learning more each time! I highly recommend him. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in voice or only experience in voice ( as my experience is theatre and musical theatre), he is patient in helping you achieve the goals set. I cannot wait to continue lessons with him!

The best lesson that I've personally learned is that a musician is never done learning. Once you start believing that you know everything there is to know about your instrument then you've stopped growing musically. Personally, I've also learned that I enjoy sharing my knowledge of music with others and exposing students to new techniques and concepts.

I've been taking lessons from Chris for 2 months now. He's exceptional in his teaching methods and makes each lesson enjoyable. I'm a beginner and learning my first chorded song. He's been excellent at taking his time and breaking the song down to where I feel comfortable playing.
He's easily reached by email, and has sent me audio files of himself playing the song we're working on to help me with my practice. I leave my lessons pumped and excited to play. I highly recommend him!!

Throughout my time at Berklee, NEC, and now Juilliard, I have studied with many great teachers and musicians from Wynton Marsalis, Eddie Henderson, Kenny Barron, Tiger Okoshi, John McNeil, and Laurie Frink to Jerry Bergonzi, and Miguel Zenon. The diverse subjects we went over in lessons and classes gives me a unique knowledge of certain styles and musical ideas. At 29 years old, David Neves is one of the most active and exciting trumpet players in New York City’s jazz scene. A graduate of the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute, David had the privilege to study and perform with some of jazz’s most accomplished and well-known musicians in the world, including Wayne Shorter, Dave Liebman, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, and George Garzone. Neves then attended the prestigious New England Conservatory where he received his Master’s of Music in Jazz Performance. 14, David independently released Progress Report, his first full-length album as a leader and composer. I am a professional musician with a bachelor's degree in music from the Sacramento State School of Music. I have played saxophone throughout the region in many different groups, such as the award winning Sacramento State Jazz Ensemble. I have training in both classical and jazz styles. As a former "band kid," I am familiar with the ins and outs of playing in all kinds of school bands such as marching band, concert band, and jazz band.
As a teacher, I like to teach good habits as well as musicianship. My goal is to help students become better players and musicians, so that they have the skills necessary to take on new musical endeavors. I also have experience in bilingual tutoring for K-12 students. This also means I have passed background checks for the state and school districts.
