I have been playing the piano for over twenty years. I began at the early age of seven years old. Ruthy has been a great instructor. I started with her knowing very little about the piano. I have been working with her once a week and am seeing great improvement. I am learning notes, chords, and understand music. She makes learning fun and helps you to achieve playing songs that you really like and enjoy.

My son walked in saying, « why do you make me do this?! » and walked out smiling and saying, « hey! That wasn’t so bad! » Quite a change and can’t wait to return next week.

Super thorough and very encouraging! I always learn a lot at each lesson and feel great about my progress. David meets me where I'm at and at my pace and is always moving me forward at every lesson. Can't recommend him enough!

Due to COVID, my son was unable to start traditional in person trumpet lessons. We decided to try virtual lessons to get him started and it's been one of the best decisions we've made! David is knowledgeable on music theory and takes the time to make sure our son understands concepts such as rhythm & pitch. We've seen a great deal of improvement over the past year.

My goal is to unlock your creativity! As an active musician, producer, and teacher, I love to help people learn how to read, write, and understand the music they love and envision. My teaching philosophy is that every aspect of music is connected and therefore to really get it, you have to learn it all! I take a wide ground up approach inching away at rhythm, melody, theory, technique, and feel altogether, advancing all musical skills equally over time.

About Joshua

I am a Nashville-based musician and record producer, originally from just north of Chicago in Gurnee, IL. I began my musical journey at the early age of three. My parents recount me banging on pots and pans before I could speak, so they placed me in piano lessons at three years old and drum lessons

Josh is AMAZING! He’s helped my son learn to play the drums - he had never touched any music instrument before he started lessons. He’s also teaching him to read music which is important to me. Lastly, Josh really helped to boost his confidence - he was 5 months in and my shy kid signed up for a drum showcase and DID AMAZING!!! Josh is such an awesome young man, and a good role model for kids as well. He was doing in person lessons, but when Josh moved we switched to virtual because he’s so great! HIGHLY recommend working with Josh. He’s the best.
Marilou
Good program and Joshua is a very good listener! I recommend his piano class for every beginner.

Joshua has the gift of teaching. My son is not only enjoying his lessons, but he is excited to show me what he has learned and even practices every now and then without needing a reminder. I would highly recommend him. He relates well with his students and makes learning the piano fun.

"AMAZING!

I met Dave in my music theory class at Ex'pression college. He's the reason why I'm making music today. I went from not knowing a thing about music theory or a piano to creating chord progressions, understanding modes, intervals, modal interchange, and how to read sheet music. He's extremely patient, professional, and easy to get along with. His passion for music and teaching is infectious, I highly recommend!!!"

Music Student Face-Off: Memorizers vs. Readers | Which is Better?

As you learn songs and work through your music books, do you memorize the notes? Or do you read along every time you play? In this post, music teacher Vanessa G. discusses the pros and cons to the approaches...   Imagine your teacher gives you a piece of music to study. What's your process? Do you listen to a recording, memorizing the melody and the stylistic aspects before you begin, and then as you play? Or would you sit down and sight read the notes, and perfect it from that star …

How to Change the Key of a Song With and Without a Computer

What Does it Mean to Change a Key? To change a song’s “key” means to shift the whole musical system to a higher or lower position. This process is called “transposition.” Performers often need transpose a song to better fit their voices. That way, a performer with a naturally lower singing voice (like myself) will be able to more comfortably sing a song that was originally written for someone with a naturally higher voice. Or vice versa.  For singers, transposition feels fairly …
