The goal of my music theory lessons is to help students understand the mechanics of music. From the basics of reading music, to analyzing Bach chorales, and the Lydian Chromatic Concept, I can take students through a range of topics. Lessons will be tailored to each student's interests and needs.

Let’s be real, if you really want to master or at least play decently well any instrument (the trombone in this case with all its technical challenges) you need a mentor and here we are lucky to have a young, professional, smart musician, with a strong, solid academic formation and a life dedicated to music, specialized in trombone to our entire disposition.
If you are trying to find an instructor to help you out with your musicianship, stop looking because you have already found him. I am sure that you, as I have, will exponentially progress with his help. Thank you Hayden.
Hayden has prepared my son for All State competitions, and for many concerts with his school and/or the jazz band my son performs outside of school. I recommend Hayden 100%!!!

Triads, inversions, and scales oh my! Theory can seem daunting at first, but I pride myself on explaining concepts in a way that gives you a deep understanding of how and why music functions in such a way, rather than simply memorizing note cards.
It's always more effective to learn by practicing. Music theory is no different. From lessons with me, you can expect to be writing your own works and practicing concepts that we learn in lessons.
These lessons are highly customizable and can cover any level of theory you'd like, from major scales to Neapolitan chords. If you have any questions about what I can offer, don't hesitate to ask!

I started taking lessons with Jillian around when i started high school a couple years ago. I play french horn in school, and I'm considering studying music in college, so I definitely needed to know more music theory. I play guitar too, so we started studying songwriting, too, so that I can write some songs with my band. Jillian's so nice, and really smart, so she makes it really easy to learn! I really like classes with her."

What Does it Mean to Change a Key? To change a song’s “key” means to shift the whole musical system to a higher or lower position. This process is called “transposition.” Performers often need transpose a song to better fit their voices. That way, a performer with a naturally lower singing voice (like myself) will be able to more comfortably sing a song that was originally written for someone with a naturally higher voice. Or vice versa. For singers, transposition feels fairly …
