I like for my students to learn effectively and efficiently. In addition, I teach them quality over quantity. It's not about the amount of time you dedicate. It's about what you dedicate in the amount of time.
About Garrett
At the age of 12, Garrett started playing the Violin under the instruction of Linda Shapanka. Garrett received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Florida International University for Music Performance. He has studied under the great Robert Rozek, and Marcia Littley of the Amernet String Quartet. Moreo

As a violin teacher, I focus on two core concepts: having an idea of what you want to create musically, and figuring out how to create it. Playing the violin is learning to combine creativity and emotion with logic and practicality. For every piece of music I teach, I guide students to access their inner musical creativity (something I strongly believe everyone has!) in order to have ideas on how they can express the music in an effective and impactful way that makes sense, and to figure out what kinds of emotions they can bring out through the piece. I then give structured step-by-step instruction and guidance to gain the technical abilities and fundamentals needed to bring their ideas to life through the violin.

- Very analytical, lot of focus on technical issues, but rather dry and uninspired musically.
- Very emotional and inspiring, wonderful performers themselves. But they struggle to be helpful when I encountered technical roadblocks.
Prof. Bak was the first teacher I have had that somehow managed to have the best of both worlds. An extremely sensitive musician who feels the music deeply and is able to transfer that inspiration to his students; while at the same time, he is incredibly patient and analytical when needed to assist students with their technical issues or musical understanding (such as harmonic structure, or historical background of the pieces).
Absolute gem of a musician/teacher to find!

I have taught violin for 30 years. My students enjoy playing in groups and performing as soloists. Many of my violin students have attended music camps throughout the U.S I teach using a combination of Suzuki and my own select books and pieces. I offer three showcases per year that are filled with such FUN. The showcases are so fun that the usual response to them is : Can I play more than one song next time and I should have invited more friends to come. I am excited that YOU want music lessons

Our friends thought we were crazy when they knew the fact that we need to drive 60 minutes single trip to take the weekly lesson, but after they see Amanda playing piano and violin, they think it well deserves it.

Being able to create music is an integral part of the human condition as it helps us express and understand an exceedingly wide range of human emotion. Teaching how to do it has therefore always been my greatest passion and having been privileged with the guidance of great pedagogues in the past, it is my ambition to pass that invaluable knowledge and skill on to aspiring musicians. I am certain that every person (no matter what age) has vast potential and it is my duty as a teacher to extract those talents and nurture creativity. Guiding students to find a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship to music will encourage them to not only be exceptional artists, but also human beings. It is essential to cater to each student individually helping each one find the right practice strategies, technical studies, repertoire, and most importantly, their own musical identity. My goal is not simply to develop skill, but to teach students how to teach themselves, find their ...
