About Ray

Ray is an amazing teacher. My 11-year-old has high-functioning autism and has a great interest in learning music. I was hesitant to hire just any teacher, as many teachers don't have the patience and understanding to work with special needs kids. However, Ray has been not only patient, but he has an exceptional way of teaching my son in a way that he would understand and retain the information. Ray is creative, intuitive, and experienced. My son is very happy and enjoys the lesson every single time. Thanks Ray.

Dahna’s holistic approach to cello pedagogy initially emphasizes the development of proper body alignment and technique which then fosters effortless tone production, accurate pitch, and musical expression. The lesson curriculum is modified to fit each student’s individual needs.

In addition to weekly private lessons, the students have the opportunity to meet and interact with each other in quarterly group performance classes. Performance opportunities are also available at various venues around the Silicon Valley. Many of the students are members of local youth orchestras such as The Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, the El Camino Youth Symphony, the Peninsula Youth Symphony and the California Youth Symphony. Students also have the opportunity to take part in the the Capriccio Chamber Music Institute which Dahna runs jointly with her colleague Alexander Eisenberg. This unique program offers students the opportunity to perform side-by-side with local ...

I am amazed by the progress my daughter made studying with Dahna. Dahna challenges her with hard pieces and helps her understand the music by playing together with her. Dahna makes sure my daughter “feels” the piece she is playing. With the feeling the technique becomes easy.
Dahna pours her heart and soul into teaching, and that shows in every concert: all her students play really well.

I'm sorry, I cannot handle this Instructor for my children. She wasn't me but she's not quite the people person I expected. Her personality is not a good match for a high school tutor. Unfortunately her English is not good enough. Her accent is entirely too strong. Also she does not know enough Geometry to help my kids.

"Sammy and his wife Amy did a wonderful job teaching beginning cello, violin and viola students at the Summer Strings Music Camp in Pendleton, of which I was the Director July 23-27. They worked hard to prepare interesting, innovative and creative methods to teach rhythms, note-reading and beginning orchestra to 13 students ranging in age from 5 - 11. I was very impressed with their final orchestra presentation at the final concert of Camp July 27th!"

"Jared as really made a positive contribution to my son's music education. First, let me say that he is very professional in his work ethic. He is always on time, plans the lessons; and when I asked for an evaluation for how my son's lessons were progressing he gave me a well thought out and thoughtful report. My son enjoys his lessons and appreciates the way that Jared talks to him when he is giving instructions and suggestions.

I feel my money is being well spent on my son's lessons. Jared is my son's first teacher after taking a year break from the cello after a very bad year long experience with a cello teacher at a music store--where my money and son's time was totally wasted. The lesson I learned from that experience was that when looking for a teacher find one that cares about what the student is learning and their goals; rather then the teacher's resume with regard to their educational background and not really caring about the student. I feel Jared is trying to make sure that my son learns and enjoys the cello.

My son is 13 years old; and as a thirteen year old boy he sometimes needs to be reminded to stay focused and Jared speaks to him respectfully to stay on point. (I should say my son likes to think he is funny at times). My son also likes taking his lesson online.

I would definitely recommend Jared as a cello teacher."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
