At the recommendation of my professors during my undergraduate program, I worked at the university as a music theory tutor. I currently give music theory lessons to my students at the Settlement School, as well as to my private cello students.

About Rachel

I have a BFA in Cello Performance from UW-Milwaukee. As a student, I worked for the university as a tutor in Music Theory, at the recommendation of my professors. Since relocating to Philadelphia, I have established myself as an educator all over the city. I am the cello instructor at the Baldwin

It's no surprise that it's hard to learn an instrument as an adult. Apart from a semester of guitar lessons in college, I had no musical training and no understanding of music theory. All I knew was that I loved the sound of a cello, and I was graciously gifted one on my 28th birthday.

I am proud to say that I have been Rachel's cello student for over three years now. Since the beginning, Rachel has made sure that I felt comfortable during our lessons, and she remains reassuring even when I get discouraged with my bow hold or tight fingers.

Rachel has taught me a lot about music theory, but she's mostly taught me how to love my instrument. It has been amazing to see and hear the progress I've made, and she continues to give me more exciting challenges to practice each week. She's been attentive to my learning style and my ever-evolving cello goals, and I've been consistently impressed with how she's been able to keep our lessons interesting and fun over the years.

Rachel and I meet for an hour once a week and I look forward to every lesson! She has been the best instructor, and I look forward to many more lessons to come.

Understanding music theory is an invaluable tool that will not only help you to learn new material more quickly and easily, but will also help you to communicate more effectively with other musicians. While my formal training is in classical piano, most of my professional work is as a songwriter performing pop and rock material. I will help you to connect theory to the music you're learning and can also teach practical musicianship skills, such as writing lead sheets or charts.

About Allison

Learn piano from a nationally touring recording artist, songwriter and composer with eleven years teaching experience. My approach to teaching piano is holistic, incorporating music theory, ear training, healthy physical technique, improvisation and sight reading. I have over eleven years experienc

I have a 100% rate of getting my students into their school of choice as of yet. Although I don't guarantee it, I will work relentlessly to make sure you are well prepared though. I will also lend you PDFs of books to help you save a buck.

About Scott

I have been playing drums and percussion since the ripe old age of 9, in 4th grade. Originally wanting to play the clarinet, my music teacher thought my sense of rhythm was too good to waste and placed me in the drum section. I was the only kid who didn't want to play drums. Over twenty years later

Had my first lesson with Scott today. I was very happy with the way it went . I'm 50 years old with no experience at all - so I can honestly say the lesson was enjoyable without any pressure.

Scott is inspiring, motivating, caring, attentive, personal and professional. In only a few weeks my daughter is developing a solid foundation in technique, rhythmic notation and musicianship. I would strongly reccommend him.

Debbie
I have been taking lessons with Carey for the past 1.5 years. She is a stellar teacher and flutist!. Carey is very professional in her method of teaching and started by gaining an understanding of my objectives and expectations. I'm a retiree and even though I played the flute in my early teens, it had been 50 years when I picked it up again. Needless to say, it was like starting over from scratch. But with Carey's help, guidance, and instruction, I've been able to evolve into a "decent" junior level flutist. Thank you Carey!!
Debbie
Carey is excellent. She is a very accomplished flutist with great teaching and people skills. Carey is extremely skillful in figuring out areas of improvement through careful listening and probing of questions. Her suggested applications of adjustments are spot on!
Deborah
Carey is an excellent teacher. She shapes each lesson to my needs and challenges and gives me great exercises and tips that have improved my performance.

David is a great tutor and teacher! He helped me to understand the basic fundamentals of music theory and how to develop the skills to be able to practice it at home. "When I was third trumpet Dr D was the Drum Major. Our marching and field show bands under NY legend David Bournazian won many local and state competitions. I was just happy to be part of it, but Dr. D was leading it. He has deep knowledge of music theory and is equally expert at improvisation. His ability to communicate theory to beginners or higher level learners is amazing. He has the unique skill of being able to make complex concepts seem simple with illustrative examples until you find yourself starting to 'get it'. Highly recommended."

"Before attending Berklee College of Music, I had zero formal music theory training. In addition to that disadvantage, I've also struggled with a learning disability my whole life. Because of all this, once classes started, I quickly realized I was in way over my head, and requested a tutor to help- which is when I met Eli! After our first session, it was clear that "knowledgeable" or "helpful" are really understatements when describing his level of expertise. What Eli is, is brilliant- he knows music theory like the front and backs of his hands, and is able to COMMUNICATE it to you in a clear and easy way. Not only did I learn more effectively with Eli's help, but my music theory professor nominated me for the music theory spring scholarship award, and I won! I never would have gotten as far as I did in my music theory studies without his help; I truly admire his intelligence. And lastly, but certainly not least-ly, he is an absolute PLEASURE to work with- I didn't just get a great tutor, but I got a great friend too! Please do yourself a favor and work with Eli, I can promise you you won't be disappointed!"

Understanding Music Theory Through Colors

Struggling to understand a music theory concept? Sometimes, all it takes is a tweak to the way material is taught for a student to really grasp it.
