I am an experienced performing artist and teacher that works in New York and regionally. My music students include children, working professionals, performing artists, and seniors. I attended Barnard College, Columbia University, and Maggie Flanigan's acting conservatory program. My training at Columbia University and with private instructors focused on classical repertoire and theory, but I also work with students on popular music (i.e.Pop, R&B, Electronica, and Folk). Music theory (i.e. sight reading, chord progressions) and practices from Linklater, Alexander, Williamson movement, and Art of Practicing techniques are incorporated into my music instruction.

What is my background?
I am an experienced performing artist and teacher that works in New York and regionally. I have developed a keen ability to assess and shape talent from years of training, teaching, performing, and working with the head of Arts programs to conduct admissions interviews, student evaluations, and performances. I attended Barnard College, Columbia University, and Maggie Flanigan's acting conservatory program. My training at Columbia University and privately with notable musicians focused on classical repertoire and theory, but I also work with students on popular music (i.e. Pop, R&B, Electronica, and Folk).

What material is covered during lessons?
Music theory (i.e. sight reading, chord progressions) as well as posture,
artistic expression, interpretation, breathing, and finger and pitch placement techniques are incorporated into my music instruction. Cold reading, audition preparation and technique, Shakespeare, scene analysis, and business strategies are examples of topics that may be covered in acting instruction. Linklater (voice), Alexander, Williamson (movement), and Art of Practicing (piano) methods are also employed.

What are the profiles of my students?
My students come from different walks of life: children coming from school who bound excitedly to my lesson door; teenage artists who have the passion and vision but lack the technique; working adults who seek reprieve from the stress of work by singing/ learning an instrument that they've always wanted to play; and seniors who want a fun hobby to keep active. I enjoy teaching them and watching them master the fundamentals while developing their own performance style (or even composing their own music)!

What is my teaching style?
Based on feedback, students appreciate that I am a teacher with a warm personality whose supportive, passionate, and fun approach and effective techniques help them attain the following: 1) a firm understanding of the fundamentals of music theory or acting technique; 2) an ability to effectively learn how to perform and practice singing/playing/acting a piece; and 3) a style of performing that minimizes tension, produces beautiful sound or a dynamic character, and/or allows them to fully express themselves. After a few months, students should have sound knowledge of all three.

My students and I connect, in part, because I remember being like them. On stage, I started out dancing and acting; I delved into singing and songwriting and then fell in love with playing the piano. The day that I learned how to merge those passions (i.e. singing while playing the piano) was one of the happiest days of my life! Now, whether I'm performing Shakespeare on stage, playing Chopin and Beethoven, or singing while playing tunes by Whitney Houston, I still get excited. Hopefully, I fuel that excitement in you, too!

What is the lesson structure?
Due to the comprehensive nature of my teaching style and structure, students above the age of 6 take lessons for 60 minutes; 30-minute lessons are only available for children aged 5-6. If a student wants to learn how to play while singing, I am happy to help him/her do so!

My studio location in Manhattan is conveniently near Midtown, Chelsea, Flat Iron, Murray Hill, Union Square, Tribeca, and the Financial District in particular and is easily accessible via public transportation. It houses an upright piano and seating for parents.

Nikole, is very warm and professional. I have never continued with voice lessons, I enjoyed the experience so much that I'm going to kick the bad habit of smoking and sit down and seriously figure my finances out to continue being taught by her. Technique- We will help you improve breathing, phrasing, improving tone, projection and develop range.

Artistry- Some singers already have a sense of "who they are" and
have found their "sound" as artists, and others need help refining it.
We'll look at what songs are great for you, (maybe you write your own)
how to style songs and make them your own and even experiment with
different genres.

Performance skills- It's one thing to sing in a room one on one
with a vocal instructor and quite another to be onstage with an
audience with all eyes on you as you stand in front of the mic. How do
you connect with your audience? How do you handle nerves? How do you
talk between songs? Some of these things are learned best from
experience. Most singers are working on their voice because they want
to perform. Michael will provide opportunities for performance
experience for each artist when each individual is ready.

Be an Intelligent singer- Learn how to be ready for an audition.
How to communicate with a band /accompanists. How to know what keys you
need your songs in. Learn about singing harmonies/backing vocals. Learn
about recording vocals in the studio.

Michael is the best singing teacher I've ever had. He has done a wonderful job of helping me to reach the potential that I knew I had as a singer.

His unique and innovative approach to vocal warm ups has helped me to find and define my vocal range.

He also happens to be an excellent vocal arranger, having helped me to add vocal accents to my songs that have given them new life.

Michael is the best! Right from the start he picked up on the weak areas of my voice and we've been working on it since. He goes through the exercises such that I'm singing the way I wanted without even thinking about it. And he doesn't miss a thing. If I miss a note he's right there having me do it over again until I get it right.

He also explained in detail what the problem areas were and how to fix them. Describing with words how to use the human voice is no easy task, but he knows exactly how to get the point across.

I was originally pessimistic about online lessons, but I thought I'd try it since I couldn't find anyone with credentials and experience like Michael's in Atlanta for less than a gajillion an hour. I was pleasantly surprised. I can sing in the comfort of my own home, and it's just like he's right there with me.

I have had a wonderful organ teacher, Shoko, for quite a few months. She is very patient, extremely pleasant and teaches very well. I learned quite a bit from her since I knew no organ playing at all at onset.

In my studio, I believe that my role is to steer students toward a deeper understanding of themselves, their instrument, and their relationship to music. I tailor my teaching to the needs of my individual students, who currently range from age 4 to adult, often adding improvisation and extended techniques to increase my students’ awareness of the potential of the flute as a channel for one’s creativity.

With over a decade of teaching and a doctorate in flute performance, I have extensive experience teaching flute lessons and recorder lessons to students from beginners to advanced. I teach at my studio in Brooklyn or can come to your home in New York City. I have previously taught in Colorado, Westchester, NY, and throughout New York City. Originally from Mexico, Patricia F. has toured all over the world. These tours included performances with renowned symphony orchestras and ensembles. She has also received numerous awards. Patricia’s constant search for freedom in her musical expression led her to find her voice through the vibraphone and other mallet percussion in improvisational music and composition.

Patricia performs with Grammy nominated group The John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble along with musicians such as saxophonist Tony Malaby and vocalist Theo Bleckmann. Patricia is also a member of bassist Michael Formanek's Ensemble Kolossus, a large jazz ensemble featuring brilliant improvisers and instrumentalists. Patricia has performed in venues and festivals such as Newport Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall, and The Jazz Stand
ard. Patricia has also appeared on National Television and Public Radio. Upcoming commitments include a European tour with The John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble and a premier large ensemble project with pianist Vijay Iyer.

Patricia holds a Bachelor of Music from the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music and a Master of Music from New York University.

Lessons are completely customized and personalized. It is my goal to guide each of my students through their own musical path.

Each of the teaching methods and techniques are adapted to the level and ability of each individual student. These methods and techniques are adapted to the individual needs of each student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a professional keyboard. I also have basic drums and drum pads for drum students. I have mallet percussion instruments such as a vibraphone, sticks and mallets. It is also equipped with all the basics such as music stands and educational material. The studio is set up for the student to feel comfortable.

I provide sticks and mallets as well as drum pads. I also provide pedagogical material. Piano students must have some kind of keyboard.

I specialize in jazz, other American styles of music such as blues, rock and pop, improvisational music and western classical music. I also have expertise in Latin American music such as salsa, Cuban son, and other specific styles from Latin American cultures. I teach my students the basics of Western Music in general as well as encourage improvisation in any style either jazz, classical music or other.

Patricia is an AMAZING teacher.

Personality: She is very welcoming, warm, funny and just a positive person to be around which bodes very well when it comes to learning and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Knowledge: Just by looking at her credentials you know that she has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to music. However, her greatest gift is being able to relay all of that information to someone who may not have a very strong musical background. She is also very adept at making connections making the learning process fun and understandable.

Lessons: I have been taking lessons with Patricia for months now for voice. The greatest part of the lessons are that she does not only focus on improving your voice on a technical level. She helps with mental preparation, ear training, music theory and great deal of other things which helps students to become more well rounded. I believe this also helps students to grow in their area of study much faster.

Misc: Patricia greatly encourages her students to perform. If you are not comfortable going to an open mic, Patricia hosts a performance event for her students. This provides a safe and secure environment for students to express themselves an apply what they have learned in lessons.

I recently performed and while nervous the mental preparation that I described above helped me to "put on a show". I will continue taking lessons with Patricia and I am grateful for everything I have learned and experience in my time.

Patricia is an excellent teacher for all levels. I have worked with her teaching three year old beginner drum group classes, all the way to masterclasses for college students at CUNY on techniques to use when improvising in complex time signatures. She can teach anyone! Patricia makes the lessons fun all the while you gain inspiration. I also really enjoyed the concert she hosted for her students in the Village. I have several years of experience teaching voice at Yale University with styles ranging from Classical to Broadway to a capella! I teach students of all levels and musical backgrounds!

We will learn the basics of breathing, support, phonation, and placement. You can expect an increase in range, power, and vocal control.

We will also discuss stylistic issues and what songs/pieces best suit your voice!
Most of all we will have fun throughout the entire process!

My name is Alex and I look forward to teaching you!

My experience with teaching includes private teaching at Yale University and Stony Brook University where I taught undergraduate voice lessons in all different kinds of repertoire: a capella, musical theater, opera, jazz, etc.

I teach students of all ages, levels, and musical backgrounds, so if music and singing is completely new to you, no worries!

In our first lesson together we will go over your singing goals and aspirations as well as what kind of music you want to sing. Are you just looking to become a better karaoke singer? Do you have serious Broadway ambitions? Are you just curious about your talent for singing? Whatever your goals and aspirations are, I'll tailor the lessons to your needs and wants so that you can get the very most ou
t of our time together.

Bass-Baritone Alexander H’s recent performances include his debut with the Beethoven Easter Festival of Warsaw as Pietro in Simon Boccanegra, Monterone with in Rigoletto with Opera Theater of Connecticut, Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro with Bronx Opera, Le Bailli in Werther with Opera Company of Brooklyn, and the bass-baritone soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with EOS Orchestra of Beijing. Alexander's operatic credits include performances of Lorenzo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, King René in Iolanta, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, and the Sorcerer in Dido and Aeneas, as well as excerpted performances of Colline in La Bohème, Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Frère Laurent in Roméo et Juliette, Banco in Macbeth, Dulcamara in l’elisir d’amore, and Superintendent Budd in Albert Herring, as well as many others with Mannes Opera, Chautauqua Opera, and Yale Opera. Equally at home in art song, Alexander has performed as a soloist in Chautauqua Opera’s young artist recital series, Yale Opera’s Liederabend concerts, and the Montreal International Vocal Arts Institute recital series.

Emily holds her M.M. in Multiple Woodwind Performance from The Boston Conservatory with concentrations in saxophone, clarinet, and flute performance. She also holds a B.M. in Music Education from Ithaca College with an emphasis on jazz performance and pedagogy in addition to traditional studies in music education.

My name is Billy Duffy and I am a trombonist/guitarist currently living in New York City. I am studying Jazz Trombone at the New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music in Greenwhich Village. I have a lot performing and teaching experience, performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium and Zankel Hall), Dizzy's Club Coca Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Jazz Standard, Smoke Jazz Club, and many other venues around the city. About Jennifer
I am a professional composer and arranger. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's of Music in Commercial Music Production and am pursuing my Master's at New York University in Scoring for Film and Multimedia.

I'm passionate about all things related to music theory, composition, and history. I believe that anyone can compose; they just need the music theory knowledge to know how to bring their ideas to life. Music theory doesn't have to be hard! I strive to make every lesson stress free and relevant to the student's interests.

As a professional composer, I've worked on numerous projects including short films and commercials. I've been playing piano since 2002 and cello since 2004. I've began theory and composition training in 2006 and have solidified my skills throughout my undergraduate education. I also studied
songwriting and music production, and I am happy to help students who are interested in writing and producing their own songs.

I believe a solid foundation in music theory is essential to being a successful musician, whether you want to write pop songs or perform in concert halls. Classical music is easy once you learn it, and it will help you in ways you could never imagine. I'm excited to work with you and help you become the best musician you can be!
