I have been teaching violin for seven years. Though I am classically trained, my interest in music goes far beyond classical music. I am constantly listening to various genres of music and consider myself a forever learner, loving everything in music from Prokofiev to the Flaming Lips. It is my job to help guide my students through their musical journeys, whether that is helping them get into their regional orchestra or teaching them that one song they've always wanted to learn. I teach out of the Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. Though my lessons are fun and relaxed I will always give my students that extra push when needed. My goal is to help each student reach their personal success and to instill a love for playing music.

Tools for lessons:

Music Stand
Rosin
Shoulder rest or sponge
Previous method books (if you are not a first time learner)
Metronome
Pencil

I have been teaching children of all age groups to acquire a solid foundation in violin playing. Whether it be pre-K beginners, or high school students getting ready for college auditions, I will communicate with the students and parents to set a number of goals to achieve.
I also welcome adult students, beginners and amateur enthusiasts alike.

In addition to gaining expertise in the techniques in violin playing, students in my studio will be given opportunities to gain comprehensive music knowledge including theory, sight singing, ear training, and any relevant music history, as the above-mentioned knowledge are indispensable elements in violin playing. Singing and clapping are essential parts of the lesson. When students are equipped with the basics, they can play anything and make the music they want.

About Dongbin

I am a concert soloist, and have given concerts home and abroad. I have previously served as the concertmaster at the Hartt Symphony Orchestra and the Waterbury Chorale. I am also an avid chamber musician with chamber music experience from age of 15 as a member of the Shin Trio. I was appointed as

My son has been taking violin lessons with Dongbin for almost 3 years since he started playing at age 5. Dongbin has been a great teacher, and my son enjoys learning from him. His lessons include not only violin playing, but also clapping rhythms, singing notes, and other exercises that have been effective ways of learning for my son, while keeping him engaged throughout the lesson. Dongbin recognizes my son’s strengths in playing violin, but also identifies the skills and techniques that he should focus on to become a better player and to build a strong foundation as he progresses. He also gives suggestions to help sharpen those skills while practicing at home. We have been very pleased with our experience with Dongbin as our son’s violin teacher.

My teaching is a combination of Suzuki Method, ABRSM pieces, and Traditional Method. I used fingering, bowing exercises or etudes for the pieces to make it easier to play.

I am very sincere and sensitive to my students because every student is unique and it is very important that you have to connect with them. I teach by heart and provide what they wanted to achieve in violin playing and so its worth and satisfying.

All of my students will learn how to play well with good intonation and proper posture. Students can choose to play their favorite pieces for fun, either Classical or Pop music . We can also enjoy some duet pieces.

Violin playing is fun but it involves patience, discipline, PRACTICE and determination. Lesson can be held in West Valley Music depending on the studio's room availability. Give me your availability and i will try to fit you in.

I enjoy teaching and sharing my passion for music with students of all ages. Currently, I teach students from ages 4 to 66 in the summer and have taught elementary school students during the school year through a music program I started in 2017 called Virtuoso. Music has shaped me into who I am today and has given me some of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I am a classically-trained musician, so if you are looking to excel in classical music, feel free to send me a message. My goal as a teacher is to make sure that all of my students succeed and reach their full potential. Let’s get started on your musical journey!

We are so grateful that our 4-year-old son Jeremy got to learn violin with Wilson! Jeremy had never played instrument before, he’s seen Wilson performed during worship and has been aspired to be like Wilson. Wilson is such a champ at creating bonding with his little student in no time, motivating them to learn with passion and practice with perseverance. With just eight lessons, Jeremy went from nothing to being able to perform his first piece “twinkle twinkle little star”. Wilson hand made him “Jeremy’s rhythm book” to teach him notes and beats; and “Jeremy’s practice chart” which makes Jeremy motivated to practice every day and proudly put a sticker on for the day. Wilson is such a good role model to our little boy, great personality and a joy to be with, his lesson is what Jeremy most looks forward to every week! We are so sad that we can’t continue with Wilson as he will be in Atlanta for school. However, lucky violin learners in Atlanta - we highly recommend Wilson, you’ll be very lucky to learn from him!

"My daughter has been one of Mel's violin students for 5+ years. He is an accomplished musician who teaches his students with a kind and gracious demeanor. She also has had the opportunity to play solo's in recitals and yearly contests that Mel's studio arranges for his students. Because of his well-rounded attention to instruction, practice, and performance, her growth as a violinist has been immense. This growth has also allowed her to compete at the district and state level in school."

Violin Tips: Stiff Shoulders and Arm Pain

Playing the violin should be fun - not a pain! Some arm fatigue is normal when you're first starting out, but anything more than that may be a sign of poor posture, technique or instrument placement. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you practice and play... 1. Relax. Many beginner players tense up their shoulders, arms or wrist without even realizing it, which can cause a lot of problems. Just relax! Focus on your breathing, but also don't lose your posture. 2. Check your techni …
