Learning to play guitar can be a daunting task. Don breaks it down into easy to understand lessons. After each lesson he sends me home with practice homework so I constantly feel like I'm making progress.

The most important thing for me when i wanted to take lesson was that the teacher new his stuff, Don definitely does. I'm not just learning to play guitar, i'm also learning more about music.

I have worked with over 2,500 students in one-on-one lessons, educational workshops, and outreach concerts. My lessons focus on developing technique, practice strategies, a good sound, aural skills, music theory knowledge, and stylistic fluency.

My private students have placed into selective programs including the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble at The Hartt School, the Connecticut Music Educators Association All-State Band, and Interlochen Arts Camp. I teach saxophone at Manchester Community College, Camp Encore / Coda, and Music and Arts East Hartford. I believe students of all ages can find enjoyment and success in music.

You'll benefit from my years of experience as a professional performing musician. From 2012-2016 I toured with the Asylum Quartet, an award-winning ensemble acclaimed for virtuosity, creativity, and innov
ation. I have also performed with the Juilliard Orchestra, the U.S. Coast Guard Band, and International Opera Theater. I hold a Master's in Music from The Hartt School and a Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from Arizona State University (ASU).

Though I specialize in saxophone, I also love teaching beginning and intermediate piano.

***Lesson Materials***

Saxophone students must have an instrument in good repair and required accessories (reeds, mouthpiece, etc.). Piano students must have access to a tuned piano or an electric keyboard with touch-sensitive, weighted keys. I am happy to recommend instrument and accessory brands; please check with me before a major purchase. Quality, working equipment is critical to students’ success.

I periodically request that students purchase books and other lesson materials.

IMPORTANT: If you are planning to buy a saxophone, piano/keyboard, or mouthpiece, please consult with me first. Having good-quality instrument/accessories will help you achieve your success. There are a number of cheap products that are easy to find and purchase, but they are often of poor quality. I can recommend options for your first purchase that may be more expensive, but will help you succeed in the long term.

I was born in Cracow, Poland. From an early age I had a deep interest in all types of music. I was encouraged by my parents and quickly developed a talent. I began my musical education at the age of seven studying piano. I studied at The Frederic Chopin Academy of music in Warsaw, Poland and then at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University where I received a Bachelor of Music Degree in French Horn performance. Later I received a Master of Music in French Horn Performance and post Master Certificate, both from the DePaul University. I am an active freelancing musician in the Chicago area. Students will learn to play piano or horn in a pleasant atmosphere. Additionally they will learn elements of music theory so they can quickly start to play on their own. I loved Ms. Anna's enthusiasm and constructive criticism. I have been playing horn for 7 years, and this was my first lesson. I have a ways to go, but I loved how she was willing to help me and give me tips in ways that you wouldn't get in your typical band class. I am definitely looking forward to our lessons!! 10/10 recommend for anyone looking for lessons, whether it is your first or your 100th

Anna is a great teacher. We started off with 10 lessons to give our 11 year old son a head start as he was keen to switch from Trombone to French Horn. With Anna's help, he made it! French Horn is a difficult instrument to play compared to other brass woodwind instruments, and finding Anna to help our son has been really beneficial. We highly recommend Anna and we will be signing up for more lessons. In addition, to those who are considering Online lessons, they have been great. We have been using a good webcam (Logitech from Amazon) together with Skype and it has worked out. Thank you!

Guitarist Brian H. studied at The Hartford Conservatory and the Hartt School of Music, graduating at the top of his class with honors from The Hartford Conservatory. Brian has been a guitar and bass instructor at Choate Rosemary Hall since 1999. Brian also teaches at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, The Music Shop in Southington, and is the owner of Guitar Star Studio, located in Glastonbury, CT. In the past, he taught at The Hartford Conservatory and Riccardo's Music in East Hartford.

Brian has performed in many bands with diverse styles of music. As a past member of the John Jeski band for 13 years, he was a voting member of the Grammy Awards. Brian has 25 years experience playing in rock/pop bands, and currently performs with country artist Frankie Justin Lamprey. He has had the opportunity to perform several times a
t the Oakdale Theater, the Rock Cats Stadium, and has also done a number of radio and television interviews. Brian has provided liturgical music for many years in CT; also, in Sicily and Rome. Mr. H is a patient, enthusiastic teacher who enjoys helping his students master the art of guitar.

*** Lesson Details ***
In the first half of the lesson, students can expect to learn music fundamentals from a guitar method book, i.e. how to read music; I also teach guitar tablature. Depending on ability (beginner, intermediate, advanced), I will show them chords, scales and how to play a guitar solo. The second half of the lesson is spent with the student learning their favorite songs and building a repertoire (song list) for possbile future performances.

Mezzo-soprano Rachel A. has captured audiences throughout the United States with her rich and warm timbre, beautiful blend, and dynamic stage presence. A native of Stockton, California, Rachel was born into a musical family and quickly developed an affinity for the performing arts. She first fell in love with classical music as an oboist and gradually found her niche as a singer through her passion for languages, literature, and theater. In the fall of 2012, she relocated to Connecticut where she continues to be an active performer of opera, oratorio, art song, crossover, and new music.

Most recently, she was seen as the mezzo-soprano soloist in Capella Cantorum Masterwork Chorus and the Old Lyme Congregational Church Choir's performances of Handel's Messiah, the mezzo soloisit in Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat with the Stamford Chora
le, with Hartford Opera Theater as Elise in Dawn Sonntag's Verlorene Heimat, Pythia in Nkeiru Okeye’s We’ve Got Our Eye on You, and as Miss Paige in Dan Shore’s An Embarrassing Position which was nominated for Best Featured Ensemble in a Musical through the 2015 Broadway World Connecticut Awards. She has also performed with Opera Theater of Connecticut, Connecticut Lyric Opera, Madison Lyric Stage, Greater Worcester Opera, Revolution Opera Alliance, the Simsbury Light Opera Company, and the Greater Meriden Concert Chorale.

Prior to moving to Connecticut, Rachel lived in St. Louis, Missouri, where she frequently performed with the St. Louis Symphony as a member of the St. Louis Symphony Chorus. She has also performed with Winter Opera St. Louis, Union Avenue Opera, and the Southern Illinois Music Festival. In 2012, Ms. Abrams had the opportunity to be a sponsored young artist with Winter Opera St. Louis where she performed the role of Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos, covered Musetta in La Bohème, and performed in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical review: A Grand Night for Singing. Ms. Abrams has also performed with Opera Fort Collins, Loveland Opera Theater, Victorian Lyric Opera, and Opera Classica Europa in Bad Schwalbach, Germany as an apprentice artist. Additional operatic credits include Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore and Miss Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Theif.

A passionate performer of Jewish music, Ms. Abrams was featured as a soloist in Martin Bresnick’s puppet opera, Der Signál, with the Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra during the 10th Annual Celebration of Jewish Arts and Culture at Charter Oak Cultural Center in October of 2014. As an active performer of art song, Ms. Abrams has collaborated with various musicians throughout the New England region to create diverse and accessible art song recitals. In April of 2015, Ms. Abrams and pianist Michael Korman presented a recital featuring the works of Schönberg, Ruth Schönthal, Previn, and Weill with the Maurice Greenberg Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Hartford.

Since the winter of 2016, Rachel has been an active performer with Lollipop Opera Outreach. This touring opera company brings the joy of opera to thousands of school children throughout New England. This season, she will perform the roles of the Mother/Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Babe in The Three Pigs – A Pig Tale, and participate in the premiere of a new interactive “culinary” opera adventure: A Fairytale Kitchen.

In addition to being a passionate performer and collaborator, Rachel is a private music educator dedicated to the success of her students. Ms. A maintains a private studio of voice students out of her home in West Hartford, Connecticut. In addition to her private teaching studio, she is the alto section leader at St. James Episcopal Church in Farmington. She has also taught at Farmington Valley Academy Montessori in Avon, Arts Place in Cheshire and Summit Studios in Manchester.

As a voice teacher, Ms. A provides her students with a holistic, healthy, and age appropriate technique based on her studies of vocal pedagogy, years of lessons from master teachers, and her personal experiences as a performer. Through personalized vocal exercises and repertoire assignments, students will learn how to achieve a proper vocal onset, management of air pressure, increase vocal stamina, and maximize vocal freedom through balanced resonance. While Ms. Abrams teaches "classical" technique, her students apply her pedagogy to all styles of singing including, but certainly not limited to: musical theater, jazz, gospel, barber shop, and even rock!

Before opening her own private studio in Connecticut, Ms. Abrams lived in St. Louis, Missouri where she taught throughout the region. While in Missouri, she served as an Adjunct Voice Instructor/Lecture Professor at East Central College and a Private Voice and Music Instructor at St. John's School of the Arts.

In addition to her teaching experience in the Missouri area, Rachel was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Northern Colorado, where she was an assistant instructor for Music Survey and Music and World Cultures classes.

Ms. A holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelor of Music degree from San José State University. She lives in West Hartford with her husband Ben and their anti-social diva cat, Bonnie. She is currently accepting new students!

I enjoy Jazz Music theory but firmly believe for the student beginning to learn harmony and structure of musical forms, a classical approach is crucial. It doesn't have to be boring, but it does have to have structure and a well thought out learning path.

Heading into my first class with Tim, I had almost no musical experience (at least for the last 15+ years). In a very casual way, he was able to get a sense of where I was and where he should start with my instruction.

I was very reluctant to take lessons at first, but my wife got me started with Tim and it was really worth it. He was accommodating to my relatively slow speed of learning and easily adapted to my own musical preferences and interests.

His studio is a great space and is located within a really cool, historic building. The sound is fantastic and it's a comfortable space to practice in.

I highly recommend Tim for lessons - especially for adults who may not be able to dedicate hours a day to practicing. I took lessons weekly for three months and I got a great foundation for practicing. Once my life settles down a little, I definitely hope to go back.

I grew up in music, and started playing the piano when I was 6 years old, and began composing and using Logic Pro two years after that. I have been playing saxophone for 8 years, and am currently working to gain my bachelors degree in music performance from California State University, Fullerton. During my saxophone instruction I also began learning clarinet as a supplementary instrument, and have been playing it for 3 years. What I love about music the most, is how deep it resonates with the human soul and how the music stems from the passion of the composer and the performer.

I feel that my job as a teacher is to instill a sense of passion and love for music in my students, in addition to teaching them the instrument and the rudiments of music. I also am a strong believer that the best way to grow as a musician is to perform, to play
with other musicians, and to listen to as much music as one can get their hands on. My teaching style emphasizes deliberate and consistent practice schedules and a very broad and visceral understanding of music as a whole.

To learn music theory or not to learn music theory, that is the question. This is really a personal preference. While I do recommend all musicians have at least a basic knowledge of theory it is not mandatory. Like anything, there are benefits to it. Eddie Van Halen can't read music, so you can excel on any instrument without it. BUT, it is very beneficial in my opinion.

There are many lesson options available including at my studio in South Windsor CT, online or at your location. Hi! I am a private music instructor offering lessons both in-studio and online. I hold a Bachelor of Music Degree from Berklee College of Music (Summa cum Laude) and I have over 36 years' full-time experience as an instructor.

I also have over four decades of experience as a professional jazz, rock, and theater musician. My experience has taken me from nightclubs to concert stages, as well as television studios, radio stations, and many recording studios.

Finally, I am a published author with several titles dedicated to helping musicians becoming the best they can be.

**** MY TEACHING STYLE ****

My teaching style is often referred to as laid-back, gentle, informative, and very supportive. My focus is on enrichment, encouragement, and results.

I don't work with “one-size-fits-all” methods. Each lesson is customized to mak
e the most of each student's own unique abilities, limitations, preferences, and interests. Whether students prefer, or do better with, traditional materials, playing/singing along with their favorite recordings, improvisation, or anything in between, I am more than happy to accommodate and bring out each student’s best!

I teach real music -- students begin playing music they love almost from day-one. For example, many of my piano and guitar students pride themselves on learning to play every song on the Beatles One album ... playing right along with the CD! Reading, playing by ear, improvisation (jamming), singing while you play ... there are so many ways to play and avenues to explore in music.

**** MY STUDIO ****

My studio is spacious (very spacious – no cubicles here!), well-appointed, and very quiet. Unlike music stores and multi-lesson facilities, there are no other lessons on the premises, no drummers going crazy on the other side of the wall. This means students can concentrate better and learn faster. There is also plenty of room for parents and siblings who may wish to sit in on lessons.

**** STYLES / GENRES ****

I believe that students make the most progress learning music they love and I am very happy to teach every student the style of music he or she loves most.

My most requested genres are: pop, rock, country, blues, classic rock, jazz, and classical. Some students arrive knowing exactly what they want, but most are happy to explore various styles that interest them in search of the perfect fit. It is not at all uncommon for a student to spend part of their lesson polishing up a Beethoven piece or jazz standard, then finish up playing the chords to “Hotel California” along with the CD. Another student might start off their lesson learning a Taylor Swift hit, then move over to doing some blues improvisation. Variety is a wonderful thing and it is highly encouraged!

**** MY STUDENTS ****

Over the years, I have taught students from four years old to eighty-somethings. I’ve taught absolute beginners (most of my students start from square-one), hobbyists, seasoned professionals, even a Grammy nominee and a Grammy winner! Many of my young students have gone on to perform in school bands / jazz bands and/or professionally. In all cases, they acquire a skill that will last for a lifetime and provide joy, enrichment, and satisfaction.
