I have been teaching guitar for 10 years and have been a professional musician for the same amount of time. First and foremost I want my student to have fun while learning the guitar! I will base our lesson plans around the songs and styles you want to learn. I will write out easy to read chord charts, sheet music, tab, and even record video examples for you to reference when you are practicing at home. I have taught ages 5-70 and all levels of players from total beginners to college students majoring in music.

I have taught through the City College of New York, The Larchmont Music Academy, Music Box NYC, and tons of my own private students.

About Pat

I have taught lessons since 2008 and love it! I enjoy teaching all levels and truly enjoy seeing my students improve and fall in love with playing music. Teaching has been one of the most fulfilling endeavors of my life. I began playing guitar at the age of 10. With the encouragement of my father,

Pat is a top notch NYC jazz musician with an excellent teaching style. He quickly zeroed in on my current level of ability and goals and helped design a practice plan that delivered results and kept me motivated. My strongest recommendation!

Pat really knows his stuff with jazz guitar. My goal has been to study chord melody with some jazz standards and modal jazz, and Pat has a lot of ideas with chord shapes, voicings, scale choices and alternate and passing chords. I play a lot of rock tunes as well and I've found the lessons with Pat have really helped me expand how I look at playing those songs as well. As a teacher, Pat is really patient and provides really useful supplemental charts. Highly recommended.

Pat is the best guitar teacher I have ever had! Pat makes all the lessons super enjoyable, yet I still learnt a ton! Pat always explained everything super clearly and I had so much fun! I have learnt so much in the year I have been playing guitar and pat made that possible!

I teach students a basic understanding of music theory using voice and/or piano as the learning tool (*cannot teach on guitar). Focus for singers is a strong understanding of music theory as it relates to sight singing and reading music. I work mostly from the Musician's Institute book Sightsinging - The Complete Method For Singers.

For those wanting to learn music theory for beginning piano they will need to have access to a piano or keyboard for practice between lessons, nothing fancy required, an inexpensive keyboard will suffice.

Students will learn about the basic elements of written music: time signatures, note and rest values, meter, rhythm, tempo, keys, intervals, how the circle of fifths works, relative minor scales, all major scales, etc. For those wishing to learn theory on beginning piano, they will also learn how to play chords (major, minor, diminished, basic 7th chords, sus4, etc), inverted chords and how to transpose songs into different keys. Work will be done ...

Music lessons should be fun, encouraging and full of music that you love. They are an opportunity to learn something new, show your improvement, and receive correction, encouragement and praise. Students and instructors should play together frequently throughout and the time should be balanced with theory, technique and exercises, sight-reading, and performance and seasoned with introductions to a variety of music and styles. I like to encourage students to play because they love to play and to find the music that is an integral part of their soul, then to share that with others through performance. What do you want to do with or gain from your music? We will work toward your goals.

About Jennifer

Music is a huge part of my life and I love sharing that with others. Helping and seeing others discover and develop their talents and find joy in music is something I love. I come from a musical family and have been singing and playing the piano since before I can remember. Flute (and piccolo) l

"Patricio is the type of teacher that spends time making sure you understand the theory of music instead of just jumping to play the instrument. He knows how to integrate theory into his lessons so that everything make more sense when playing the instrument. He is very knowledgeable about music which makes the experience of learning enjoyable and fun. I had never touched a guitar before I started taking acoustic guitar lessons from Patricio, and he is gradually teaching me the basics with a lot of patience. I am still a beginner, but one of the reasons that I am still motivated to learn is because Patricio is so inspirational. I leave each lesson wanting to learn and practice more. In order to learn something new, you have to be inspired, and Patricio knows how to inspire people to learn."

Why You Should Learn (At Least a Little) Music Theory

One of the most common weaknesses for amateur musicians is a lack of music theory knowledge. Many people assume that learning theory is difficult (it isn’t) that it has no practical purpose (it does), or even that it will actively make them worse at making music (quite the opposite). I’m here to convince you that learning a little about how music works is one of the most important skills you can develop and should absolutely be part of your daily practice routine. Here are five reasons w …

A knowledge of music theory is absolutely indispensable to musicians.
