Evelyn is very sweet and encouraging and made my first lesson so much fun. After my seven year hiatus from studying piano, she quickly assessed my strengths and weaknesses and created an action plan. She assigned beautiful pieces and really crammed a lot into an hour session. Feeling very excited to continue working with her.

Private Music Theory Teacher

Private study of music theory with me is highly individualized. For beginners, we will start with the basics of tonality, intervallic relationships, rhythm, and ear training. We will then progress into a study of harmony, musical modes, mixed meter, etc. Lessons can be done in conjunction with piano instruction if possible. I always like to use audio recordings and sheet music of recognizable compositions, both contemporary and classical, to augment a student's understanding of concepts.

About Steven

I consider myself dedicated to two passions in life: the art of musical creation, and the joy of kindling that spark in others. I've been teaching private music lessons for the past five years, and have worked with students of many different ages and proficiency levels. I am always on the lookout t

Andrew is such a great teacher! I'm a beginner guitar player who wanted to learn some of the basics and work on my technique, and Andrew was so patient and really took the time to work with me. Very easy-going and helpful, even though I know I'm not the best player. He clearly knows what he's doing when it comes to anything guitar-related and I cannot wait to set up another lesson. I already feel more confident in my abilities! Thanks Andrew!

Brad fully prepared me for college-level theory at a conservatory, and I have excelled as a performer because of the great theory background Brad provided me with. Music Student Face-Off: Memorizers vs. Readers | Which is Better?

As you learn songs and work through your music books, do you memorize the notes? Or do you read along every time you play? In this post, music teacher Vanessa G. discusses the pros and cons to the approaches...   Imagine your teacher gives you a piece of music to study. What's your process? Do you listen to a recording, memorizing the melody and the stylistic aspects before you begin, and then as you play? Or would you sit down and sight read the notes, and perfect it from that star …
