I have studied music theory with several and world class musicians including Mike Longo, Walter Bishop Jr. Warn Marsh.
We work on sight reading, ear training, and theory.
I have an easy style and like my students to enjoy their lessons.

About Cory
So you want to play an instrument? Well I have taught for over 40 years and have developed special programs for you on piano, guitar, bass, voice and other instruments for you to learn. From easy beginner to the most advanced, I will help you to learn the songs you love! Whether we use the most modern technology in my professional recording studio or just some chords or perhaps learning to sight read something for a talent show, I can take you all the way to the highest performance level. Your goals are my goals.
I have studied with some of the most famous teachers in the world, including Charlie Parker's pianist Walter Bishop Jr. and Dizzy Gillespie's musical director Mike Longo, among many others.
I also have the experience of over 400 gigs a year to bring to your lesson. I have performed on piano, guitar and bass and voca
ls with famous stars and some really great bands which will help me answer many of your questions. I am currently still working, teaching and recording all the time. I also have a professional recording studio in my home which you can take full advantage of.

*** Lesson Details ***
I want you to have fun learning and can help you with understanding and memorizing your songs.
I focus on sight-reading, ear training (like jamming and playing blues) and theory. You get to choose the areas you would like to learn.
Once we have established the basics including melody and chords, we will pick songs you want to learn to play with your friends or just by yourself. We can use music books or go on YouTube to learn your songs.
I have helped students with auditions as well as performances. After only a few lessons you will hear and see things differently than ever before.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio comes complete with acoustic and electric keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars, electric bass and amps to play through, as well as professional microphones for recording. I use ProTools for recording which is used in every major studio around the world and it's loaded with great software for demos or mastering songs.

*** Specialties ***
I teach beginner, intermediate and advanced students.
I teach all styles of music including Classical, Jazz, and Rock/Pop/Blues.
I also teach songwriting, performing and recording in my ProTools studio.

Cory, is the Master Yoda of teaching music. That is truly evident in his patience, and honest desire to see you learn. Whether a beginner or an advanced musician like myself, Cory is exactly what you would hope to find in a great teacher. He is excellent in his skill and mastery of the art of music. That includes both his skill as a player, and in the science of music theory & harmony, When u see him play Piano, you will know instantly that he is a great master. Amazingly, he is also an awesome Guitarist & Bass Player. He has over 30 years of experience gigging on all 3, so there's no questioning his qualification to teach on all instruments. His seriousness as a true musician, and connoisseur of all forms of music & songwriting are especially beneficial to you. If you apply yourself, you will no doubt achieve your set goals, whatever they may be. Cory could be teaching at Juilliard or Berklee College of Music if he wanted to. That is not a joke. I went to Berklee, and so I am qualified to make that assertion. I learned a great deal studying with Cory, and that has translated into a priceless benefit for my own work.

It has been said that music theory is the ear's hindsight. Music theory explains how music ticks, and is a wealth of information for songwriters to keep them from getting stuck, enhance their harmonic ideas and concepts, and answers why they decide on most harmonic decisions within a song, or why they choose to "break the rules" also!

About Robin
I've been a songwriter since I was a teenager. I have been teaching music for almost as long. As a teacher, my joy comes from seeing a student realize they have grown, or discover something they now can do that they could not do before, and the confidence gained through their efforts with my guidance. I carry around the Beatles Pocket Reference Guide at all times and preach the gospel of their songwriting legacy to my students when necessary and whenever possible!! I equally love the mystery of the musical ear, and music theory, and how it all works together...I love purple. For all those who know me, I always match in whatever color spectrum I decide for that day, and I always have been that way. I believe in Angels on Earth, I searched for the Lochness Monster (No luck!!) I love animals. I have 2 rescue dogs, and 3 rescue cats, 1 more
comes to have dinner and hang out. I named my son after the musical "Oliver" and the name suits him! I like that Oliver means " peace offering" I grew up in the Hollywood Hills, and love the history of Hollywoodland, I also love music and TV history. My uncle Sherwood co wrote 2 of the most iconic TV themes of all time in GIlligan's Island theme and the Brady Bunch. My mom, (Judithe) and I wrote songs together for 25 years. I named my first publishing company after my dog, Atso and he was the president and his legacy lives on in his name.

*** Lesson Details ***
To me every student is unique and special, therefore I design the lesson around what they need and or want to learn. With the younger students, I strongly suggest we work out of a book as well as me giving them handouts to work on too. There are many and various books by Faber and Faber I love to use. Hal Leonard and Alfred Publishing have some great books depending on the students needs. With kids, it's important to keep it fun and interesting, and get them on a practice schedule. I believe one must have much patience with the younger students and the level of communication must be high, keeping them engaged and focused. With teens and adults, it depends on where they are at, and I always ask what they want to concentrate on. A well rounded piano lesson would work on reading, technique, theory, songs. Again, depending on the type of student, the lesson would incorporate more /and or less of these components.
I've been coined the "Chord Queen" by many students because of my fascination with how theory plays a subconscious role in songwriters who write by ear and if I'm teaching songwriting, we are looking at how the song is structured, the lyrics, the music, and of course the harmony and arrangement and I'm here to guide the student to be able to finish the song, and them be happy when it comes to fruition.

The subjects I've taught:

Piano
Theory
Ear Training
Songwriting/ Artist Development
Music History
Transcribing/Chord Charts/Lead Sheets
Music Publishing/Copyright

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a piano I teach at in my home, I have a photo copy machine to make copies and Wifi access if the student needs to bring their computer.Ipad, etc in regards to songwriting

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring music/paper/pens/pencils/hand outs/sheet music
Students should have piano/keyboard/Access to computer, or ipad would be helpful for research, examples. Lots of people have their music on their cell phones.

*** Specialties ***
Mostly Contemporary music, but have taught in many styles

Robin really took the time to understand our daughter's strengths and weaknesses to determine how best to approach improving her piano playing. She didn't just teach out of a book, rather she worked on the fundamentals that are needed in order to build a firm foundation. Elise likes her as a teacher and was very attentive through the whole lesson.

Beginner to Advanced. For composers, I can help you communicate what you hear in your head, and teach you how to complete pieces, and share your ideas with other musicians. For musicians, I will teach you the tools that help explain how, for example, certain chords and melodies work together. This includes chord progressions, circle of fifths, major/minor scales, etc.

About Weslie
Well-versed in voice, music theory, popular song styles and poetic writing, I have helped many singers and songwriters to sing and/or compose with skill and confidence in a style that is natural and unique to them. I teach voice at AMDA (Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) to singers, dancers actors. I studied voice and jazz arranging at Berklee College of Music, and then earned my Master's of Music degree in music composition from Cal State LA. I have sung pop, jazz and theatre music in Los Angeles, New York, and across the US and Canada. I've appeared on the Jay Leno Show, and have sung in many local music venues, such as the Troubadour and Luna Park, and have won multiple awards for my songs in internationally acclaimed "I HATE MUSICALS" - a short film musical (now on iTunes). My musical theatre works has been been presented in Los
Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. I am a proud member of CMASH, a composer collective in San Francisco, and I collaborate with Ann Moss, Liam Wade, and Arnold Margolin. My song Practice Your Flamenco was recently recorded at George Lucas' Skywalker Sound, and will be featured on Ann Moss's new CD, Currents.

I like to think of my teaching style as 'serious fun'. As a teacher and coach, I want to inspire you to learn skills and songs that help to develop your authentic musical identity. My lessons always include a warm-up, song study and performance. I will, if you prefer, help you choose songs, as well as transpose any song to fit your voice type and range. If you are inquisitive about songwriting, or music theory, I can definitely be a guide in those areas as well.

Weslie is great!

Weslie has helped me tremendously with music theory. She is really good at listening and figuring out specific areas that I needed help with. She even took time on the side outside of our lessons to listen to music examples I sent her and analyzed them for me. Weslie is patient and makes learning fun. Her teaching environment is comfortable and she's flexible with her schedule. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a teacher!

Weslie is a great mentor and teacher

Weslie has been able to open my eyes to what my voice really sounds like into the "musical world" in terms of technicality. While also been able to make me a better singer already. We have been working on one of my favorite songs, and there's so much I've learned from her in terms of playing the guitar and understanding how the chords are built and interfere into the overall senses of the song. I would recommend Welsie to any person that has passion in music and is willing to take the classes seriously in terms of a good learning pace and content, because I believe that she is one of the best out there in LA.

Highly focused on drum & rhythmic theory...specializing in odd meters

About Brian
I'm a 30 year old professional musician who has been playing drums and percussion for the last 16 years. I've taught for a respected music studio in Connecticut and I continue to teach here in Los Angeles. I have played in numerous bands and toured the United States, Europe and Central America. The styles I teach are Rock, Jazz, Latin, R&B/Hip-Hop, Funk/Soul, Reggae, Folk/Indie, Metal/Hardcore and World Rhythms.

I teach drum-set and various types of hand percussion such as bongos, djembe, darbuka/doumbek and congas.

*** Lesson Details ***
I've always thought that learning should be fun. I consistently try to bring a creative and laid-back approach to teaching drums. After the first lesson most students realize that I don't take myself too seriously. Sometimes certain techniques or exercises can be tiresome or even boring. When this
occurs, I switch gears and move on to something else. In my opinion, if a student is getting very frustrated it is generally best to relax and try a different exercise or beat. If we can't enjoy ourselves then what is the point?!

*** Equipment ***
I expect a student to have at least a pair of sticks and a pad. Eventually they will need a metronome for practicing and if they are serious a drum-set at some point. If you'd like to learn hand percussion I recommend having a hand drum of some kind.

*** Specialties ***
The styles I teach are Rock, Jazz, Latin, R&B/Hip-Hop, Funk/Soul, Reggae, Folk/Indie, Metal/Hardcore and World Rhythms. I teach from the heart and develop a natural feel for my students. I also use multiple books mixed into my teaching.

I have been working as a music theory tutor for many years and am happy to help any student in topics ranging from simple intervals to complex four-part writing. I have taken numerous theory classes and have also taken the AP theory exam in which I received a 5.

About Ariel
ARIEL MIZUMOTO was born and raised in sunny southern California where she relished the musical arts playing the piano and cello throughout her childhood. However, not until an unexpected chance “run-into,” and becoming friends with the legendary pianist, Mr. Van Cliburn, did she become inspired to commit and dedicate her life to a career in classical piano and music education. In 2016, under the tutelage of Professor Norman Krieger, Ariel graduated from the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music graduating with honors with a master’s degree in piano performance, and was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda National Honor Society for music.

During Ariel’s young musical career, she has had to opportunity to perform in many renown local venues, including the Hollywood Ford Amphitheater, the Orange County Performing Art
s Center Segerstrom Hall, Irvine Barclay Theater, and in Pasadena playing two seasons with Pasadena Pops Orchestra. She has also contributed to various charities playing for benefit concerts such as for childhood cancer survivors at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles’ “Celebrate Life with Hope” at the Paramount Motion Picture Studios, the Anya Foundation promoting childhood safety, and the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief benefit concert, to name a few.

Being a dual talent in both the piano and cello, Ariel has enjoyed international travel in solo piano, and chamber music as a pianist and cellist. Some of these include piano performance in China, Poland, and in various venues in Japan. As a chamber musician, she has toured internationally performing both piano or cello in countries including Germany, Austria, Russia, Estonia, and Finland.

Ariel has had film experience being featured as a musician for a major Paramount Studio’s motion picture film, as well as being part of a documentary film on the American composer, Benjamin Lees, called “The Musical Life of Benjamin Lees” by Joel Hochberg. During the premier of this documentary, Ariel was invited to perform for Mr. Lees as a VIP guest for the premier’s after-party.

Having received top recognition in a variety of competitions and scholarships, Ariel has given many performances both solo and with orchestral including twice by the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony under the baton of Dr. Ivan Shulman.

Ariel’s magnetic personality attracting the admiration of many children has been a huge asset in her teaching experience. From organizing and conducting summer music camps, to individual private instruction, Ariel has an effective communication ability making learning music a positive experience for both the students and their parents. Ariel is skilled at coaching collaborative groups, teaching music theory, music history, ear training, and solfege. Her students have scored top marks in both the Certificate of Merit and the Royal Conservatory of Music exam programs, and in AP music theory examinations.

“Cooking good food on a weekend evening and sight-reading chamber music for hours and hours with friends is my definition of a great time!” says Ariel when asked how she likes to spend her free time. In addition to Professor Norman Krieger, Ariel has studied piano with Dr. Elvin Rodriguez, Dr. Anna Grinberg, Dr. Vadim Serebryany, and Mr. Ethan Dong, and has studied cello with Wendy Liu, Julie Jung and FangFang Xu.
