I teach beginners, intermediate and advanced players. I'm delighted to teach young people to learn about music and appreciate people of any age who are interested in learning. We will work every week with scales and arpeggios (chords) and progress through literature that is appropriate for your skill level. And we will definitely have fun!

About Claire
I've been teaching piano, cello, voice and theory in Los Angeles for over thirty years, helping students develop their particular interests in music and to encourage them to reach their personal goals. I love the classics and many of my students want to play popular music, contemporary sounds and jazz and that is fine too. I received my BA in music at UCLA and a Master's at Cal State Northridge. I conduct vocal and bell choirs, run a concert series, play chamber music, sing in a band and teach in the Community College District in addition to running my private studio.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students work on technical skills such as playing scales and chords at the beginning of each lesson since these are the building blocks of the music we wish to play. I expect students to practice but I understand that life is complicated and som
e days that may mean you only have ten minutes. I try to explain that a little bit every day will help you become a better player rather than working for two hours the day before a lesson. I have lots of good books that I assign that have fun materials with strong melodies. I design everyone's program according to their desires. After a half year, a beginning piano student might expect to be able to play the three essential chords ( the ones that harmonize so many songs) while playing the melody in the other hand. Cellists can expect to be able to play at least four scales, some in two octaves, and understand the notes in the first position within six months.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Room for parents to wait, dedicated music space, Yamaha piano, great acoustics for singing

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Popular, Contemporary, Christian

I am 43 years old and was scared to take on such a difficult instrument but I really wanted to learn how to play the beautiful cello. I had my first lesson and am very happy with Claire. She is friendly, accommodating, patient, and explains her lesson in a clear and easy manner (as easy as you can get with the cello). I had a lot of questions and she was very open in answering all of them. Although I am still at the very very beginnings of my journey, I am very excited to continue with the cello lessons, thanks to Claire.

The first lesson was excellent. I completed my first private cello lesson since playing about 44 years ago. It was wonderful. The teacher is very organized and very nice. I thought maybe the lesson would be a lesson of remembering what I had forgotten from so long ago, but I actually learned new things. I'm excited to attend the next lesson.

My style of teaching is to teach each child one step at a time, through method training. Each child/Adult has their own learning curve and I adjust accordingly. Each lesson is fun and yet a learning time. I love teaching and it feeds every day. I always can see more students.

About Arlette
Arlette C. grew up and attended schools in Culver City, California. She attended Los Angeles Valley College where she received an Associate of Arts degree in Music. She then received a partial scholarship and received the Margaret Aue Award for outstanding cellist while attending California State University at Northridge, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance. She went on to attend University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a full scholarship and graduated with a Master of Music degree in cello performance.
After her graduation in 1984, she toured Europe for eight months playing cello with the Schatz Theater Group, an American opera company. Upon her return from Europe, she was hired to play in various orchestras in Michigan. In 1991, she returned to California and was named Operations Manager with the Inla
nd Empire Symphony Orchestra in San Bernardino. In 1994, she moved back to Culver City, where she began to work for Cedars Sinai Medical Center in 1997. Noticing the lack of any significant orchestra in Culver City she founded the Culver City Chamber Orchestra, with a mission of developing classical music interest in young audiences.
After she founded the Culver City Chamber Orchestra in 1997, she created the Just For Kids Youth Symphony Orchestra (2006-2008). With the Just For Kids group, she taught music fundamentals, music history, musicianship, and orchestral repertoire.
Ms. Arlette as well is the Founder and Music Director of her own orchestra and has attended several conducting workshops throughout the United States hosted by world renowned teachers such as Harold Faberman, Apo Hsu, Eduardo Navega, Marin Alsop, Lawrence Golan, Leonard Slatkin, Christoph Eschenbach, Otto Werner-Mueller, and Daniel Lewis. Her current conducting coach is Mr. John Koshak.
She has taught at Bloom School of Music In 2013. She is successfully conducting with the Culver City Chamber Orchestra, and is a free-lance cellist, and holds two wonderful cello studios in Culver City and Reseda.

My lessons are fun and entertaining, but you (the student) will always learn something). You will first learn the basics like posture, sitting properly, cello basics, then we actually play the cello. Yeah!!!! You play a line or two or three, then we play together!!! We do this a couple of times with several different fingers on the strings so you can get used to it. Repeating this over and over gives you lots of confidence and mastery!!!
At the 6 month mark I hold a recital for all my students who must participate so that I and your parents can see the progress you have made in these 6 months. And both you and I should be very proud of the work You have put into playing the cello!!!

*** Specialties ***
Methods I teach are traditional scales, etudes, broken thirds and easy pieces to difficult ones. Styles I keep range from the entire classical era from Bach to 21st century music to Broadway and some jazz.

As an adult learner, I was intimidated by the prospect of learning the cello because it’s such a demanding instrument, but Arlette has put these apprehensions at ease. She is wonderfully experienced which gives the student a very solid foundation; essential to playing the cello well. Highly recommend her as an instructor for any aspiring cellist.

I started playing cello at 26 years old with absolutely zero musical experience of any kind. After 6 months of attempting to teach myself the cello, I decided I needed help and begun my journey to find myself a cello instructor. I was so fortunate to find Arlette! Arlette was abundantly patient with me, from my habit of asking too many questions to my very unpredictable availability. Before Arlette started teaching me music theory and how to play the cello, I never appreciated the value of having an instructor. After having taken lessons from her for nearly a year, I would simply say having a fine instructor like Arlette is a necessity. The first time I played a duet was with Arlette, and it was a moment in my life I am so thankful for and I will never forget! She is kind and consistent, very professional but also very personable which is a very hard thing to balance. She pushed me to excel without making me feel overwhelmed. I could go on forever about how great a cello instructor Arlette is so I will finish with this... If you are looking for a cello teacher look no further.

Hello future cello students -- welcome!!

My students should expect a well-rounded education on cello involving technical studies, playing in a variety of styles including, playing solo works, and having a great time!

About Nicolas
Hello there, future string players and welcome to my profile!!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2
years. During this time, I was able to take lessons from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

Nick is really a great violin teacher. Our son was playing violin in school orchestra, but we decided to also supplement with private lessons and we're glad we found Nick on here. We have been coming to Nick's home studio for about a year now. Nick keeps our son engaged and continually interested in practicing during his lessons. He's patient, sometimes funny when our son needs a laugh, and ensures our son stays on task, as he can be a handful sometimes. We would whole-heartedly recommend Nick as a violin teacher.

Hi my name is Carmen. I have been teaching music for 10 years to all ages and levels. I make sure my students are able to play a song in the first lesson and customize the lesson to their own goals. I have experince playing in orchestras, trios, quartets, rock and alternative bands as well as teaching classical cello. I have knowledge of many different methods but tailor curriculm based on the students goals. My students have played in orchestras, symphonies, jazz trios and bands

About Carmen
Carmen has been teaching music for 10 years to children and adults, from age 4 to 50. She is able to teach many genres of music to all levels of musicianship, whether beginner or advanced, whether they want to learn Mozart or Coldplay, Aretha Franklin or Joni Mitchell . Her style of teaching utilizes the classical approach of theory and sight reading, but MOST IMPORTANTLY allows the student to explore the instrument freely while also achieving good musicianship. Having fun while honing the craft is the way to an enduring love of playing and is a principle she always uses in her lessons.

Carmen has a special gift with very young children; she is able to keep children interested, engaged, inspired and challenged. She has a patience with children that is extraordinary because she believes strongly in the ability of music to enrich child
ren's lives in all areas and seeks to cultivate that within the child.

Adults also find it easy to learn from Carmen's teaching approach. Her ability to approach a students challenges with a multitude of learning techniques has been useful in helping students succeed. She teaches skills and techniques for practicing that are useful for musicians through out their lifetime. Carmen also knows exactly what it takes to make a student a professional who is ready for studio session work, live band performances, live improvisations, auditions or creating their own music. She understands the desire and drive behind wanting to create with music and emphasizes certain key aspects that can make musicians proficient in any genre when practiced

Education

Carmen comes from a long family lineage of musicians and artists. Always being exposed to classical music and opera since birth, Carmen was in awe of the power of the human voice through opera. At 8 she began to study the art form and teach herself music. She started studying with teachers at age 11. After learning voice, piano and cello followed. While studying classical techniques, she also taught herself other genres of music which enabled her to play, record and perform with musicians of almost every genre by 19.

Carmen has been taught and trained by many professional working musicians of impressive musical carrer heights Her former opera/ vocal coach Shonie Lebie attended The Julliard School on a full scholarship before going on to The Metropolitan Opera House. Piano teacher Shoshana Ben Horin, a graduate of Prague Conservatory of Music and concert pianist, toured all of Europe before instructing Carmen in piano. Carmen has learned cello and other string instruments from professional working musicians here in Los Angeles.

Experience

Carmen is a current working session musician, songwriter and performer in Los Angeles. She has performed and recorded with musicians from The Gap Band, Guns n' Roses, Whitney Houston, Vanessa Hudgens, Hayden Panettiere, etc. She was born and raised in Los Angeles.

About Jessica
I have 20 years of playing experience along with a Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance. I was the section leader of my university's orchestra as well as a full-scholarship member of the university quartet. As a professional gigging musician, I have played with Il Divo, Mario Winans, La Jolla Symphony, Doctor's Symphony, Porta Caeli Chamber Players, and the quartet La Dolce.

I am a member of MTAC (Music Teacher's Association of California) and can sign my students up for Certificate of Merit. This is a music study program with an annual evaluation and written assessment. Stand-out students will be invited to play at the Branch Recital.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons differ slightly depending on the student. In general, it starts with scales for intonation or working on vibrato, moves on to an etude or exercise, and culminate
s with work on a piece of music. But not every student works well with this method, so I will add in some musical worksheets and ear training games for those that require lessons with more variety.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can come to your home to teach. I will bring all necessary method books and teaching materials.

I've been studying music my whole life. Extensive European study, 8 years in German conservatories, performing, studying, playing competitions in Germany and surrounding countries. Orchestral, chamber music, solo, I've studied closely with over a dozen high-level european cellists but I'm also good with kids, so whether you're looking to master your bow hold or have never even held one in the first place, I've got you covered.

About Marshall
Hi, I'm Marshall. I was born into a family of actors, artists, and musicians and was raised on the stage of the Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga, California, a family-run theater. I started music lessons at four on piano and later began cello at twelve. As a middle and high school student, I played with community orchestras throughout Los Angeles, and after graduation from the Hamilton Academy of Music, went on to study at Cal State University, Northridge, double majoring in cello and English literature. I afterwards moved to Germany for almost a decade, studying in Trossingen, Mannheim, and Berlin, resulting in a lot of great teachers, masterclasses and performance opportunities. After recently moving back to Los Angeles, I work as an assistant to a number of different Film/TV composers here in LA as well as playing orchestra and doing st
udio work whenever I can. It's about time for some cello lessons though, wouldn't you say?

I wanted to improve my piano skills (I'm an actor- it comes in handy). So far, I've had about ten lessons with Marshall at his studio in Topanga, and I'm already so much more confident. We started out reviewing what I knew- scales, arpeggios, etc, and now we are on to full pieces (Chopin, Mozart) and sight-reading skills. Marshall is AWESOME and has a great sense of humor. Super happy to have found him.

Marshall is such a delight! My ten-year-old son has been studying cello with Marshall for the last year and has no plans of stopping. I couldn't be happier with this find. Marshall is very nurturing but also sets clear strong goals, and my son now has a much more effective at-home practice strategy. Marshall's studio is also wonderful for me- it has an outdoor garden where I can sit and read or do work during my son's lesson.

Experienced teacher of beginner, intermediate and advanced students of all ages. Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student.

About Lucy
I believe that a musical education is very important, life changing even. No matter the age of my students, I emphasize on creativity, discipline and problem solving strategies that must be discovered when immersing oneself into the world of cello playing.

I received my Bachelors of Music in cello performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory and later received my Masters degree from University of Redlands. At both institutions I held principal positions, was an active member in all string ensembles and performed often in university related events. Outside of school, I perform with the Dana Point Symphony and continue to freelance with several ensembles. Previously, I have been part of the Los Angeles Jr. Philharmonic, Olympia Youth Orchestra, American Youth Symphony, Debut Orchestra and was a student member of the Redlands Symphony Orc
hestra. I have also participated in Masterclasses for Irene Sharp, Cecilia Tsan, Bonnie Hampton, Johannes Moser, Tao Ni, Robert deMaine, and the Calder and Borromeo String Quartets.

Lessons take place in a beautiful craftsman house in the Historic Prospect Park district of Pasadena, though I'm also happy to travel to you.

This is my second month with Miss Lucy and I have learned twice as much than what I have learned in the orchestra. We covered many great and interesting topics like harmonics and the third octave. She taught me things my conductor in the orchestra never tells you such as how to play softly if you are playing really loud on your instrument. Miss Lucy is an excellent teacher, and if I was a beginner in the string instrument world, I would want to be taught by miss Lucy than the teacher in you orchestra class. One of the things that changed me in practicing my cello is
"You must play for the love of music. Perfect technique is not as important as making music from the heart."

I like how I learned so much more, Ms. Lucy helps me with my 3rd and 4th fingerings. I always misplace my finger's. she had also taught me what type of bow I should be using. For me, I would recommend her as a teacher for people who want to learn cello. This is my second-month playing cello with Ms. Lucy and I have learned many songs. Even the famous song Blue Danube. Ms. Lucy is a spectacular cello teacher, she teaches you things that you don't learn in school like Harmonics and the third octave. She also fixes our bad habits and shows you the correct way like having a round hand when playing the "A" string and to have you thumb on the string when it is below the saddle. I liked the lesson a lot and I can't wait for the next lesson next week

I am a classically trained cellist and currently producing my own electronic music that ranges from hip-hop, to R&B to house music and combination of all kinds of music. Considering my personal journey with music, my main focus in teaching is to have fun with music and promote creativity. Rather than following the strict classical method of teaching all the time, I also share my own track with my students and encourage them to play their favorite songs whether it is a classical piece, a pop-song, or a track from a movie. I can confidently say that the many of students truly enjoyed the class with me while realizing significant improvements in their skills.

I have been teaching students for 9 years. I've taught many private lessons for different age groups, levels, and ethnicity. I had students from a 6 year old children to high school students and even adults occasionally. My previous working experiences include teaching private and group lessons, directing and managing a youth ...

About Dahwi
I have been playing cello over 20 years along with studying 4 years of Cello performance at University of California, Los Angeles, as well as joining UCLA Philharmonia, an orchestra for music majors, and 13 different chamber groups throughout my years at UCLA. These experiences prepared me well by expanding my musical knowledge in various genres of music, such as classical, baroque, contemporary, and even tango, and teaching me the importance of compromising with other musician’s musical tastes and feelings; with practice, all of this comes together in the end to put our own color on a piece.

Although I am a classically trained cellist, I am currently working as a music producer/DJ/performer. I have various experiences when it comes to music, including performing a solo, a chamber, an orchestra, a djing, teaching private lessons or grou
p lessons, recording in a studio for films and commercial, directing a cello ensemble, and producing my own track in a studio.
My belief is that every student has their own musical potential and it is my passion to help them realize how they can express it through music.

Hi! I am a professional studio string session player, and have been teaching cello for over 5 years now. I specialize in classical, celtic, bluegrass, pop & rock styles.

Students can expect a 100% personalized lesson experience to help them learn to play their favorite tunes as quickly and as beautifully as possible!

About Jesse
Hi!

I'm a professional violinist with 20+ years experience as well as an electronic music producer/artist. Seems like a weird combo, but I love doing both!

I work as a session string player, and I also produce alongside some of LA's most celebrated musicians in the neo-soul, electronic beatmaking, and lo-fi hip hop communities.

Students can expect to be given a completely 100% unique curriculum to work with their goals -- I often ask students to give me a list of people they like to listen to, and then we figure out how we can best achieve a skill set that works for their musical lifestyle.

All of my students walk away with knowledge of fundamental music theory as well as the tools to strengthen their sound, both on a real instrument and on a computer.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
