About David
I have been a working musician and occasional private music teacher for over 40 years. During that time I had a career in the professional audio and video industry, during which I learned how to successfully deal with people. I recently returned to school and completed a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree at CSU Sacramento. My goal is to bring excitement and enthusiasm for music and playing an instrument to my students, and to create musicians who will make and enjoy music throughout their lives. I play guitar, bass guitar and flute, and enjoy teaching all of them to all age groups.

*** Lesson Details ***
Playing music is supposed to be fun. Lessons include playing, so they should be fun as well. My lessons are both focused and fun. I believe you get out of music what you put in. If a student doesn't practice in between lesso
ns, I will know. If a student does practice, I will know that as well. My lessons stress not only what to practice, but how. In 3-6 months, the beginning student can expect to be able to make a pleasing sound on the instrument, and be able to play beginning repertoire. Most importantly, the student will be able to play well enough to enjoy the instrument, which inevitably leads to more productive practice and continued improvement. This continued improvement is what lessons are all about.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If I travel to a student's home, I will bring my instrument only. I expect the student to provide all other equipment necessary for the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
Folk guitar, rock and roll and blues bass, classical flute, analog and digital recording, music theory

About Steve
Steve began his musical journey on the piano as a child, later moving on to explore
clarinet and trumpet in band before discovering the French horn in high school.
Though he earned his bachelor of music in horn performance at CSU, Sacramento, he never gave
up the piano, teaching students and accompanying choirs throughout college, and
earning scholarships for both instruments.

Steve has played for a number of musical groups, from orchestras, chamber
groups and community bands to being a pit musician in musical theater and
opera. This year, he will be joining the William Jessup University Wind
Ensemble and playing horn in that group. For the last several years, Steve has
directed the orchestra at his church, and has also arranged hymns and worship music
for church orchestras and smaller ensembles.

From the basics of learning music theory, through 20th century music theory, as well as some jazz theory.

About Bianca
Hello! My name is Bianca and I would like to help you enter and enjoy the wonderful world of music!

I was introduced to music at a young age and haven't stopped playing. I love to have fun when I play, but I love sharing my passion and joy even more!

I feel that my experience as a teacher has helped me grow to build relationships with my students. I don't treat lessons like Juilliard studies. I have fun with my students. Music can be a serious study, but it is also one of the most fun and rewarding. My goal is to build a good relationship with my student so that I can work with them, rather than against them, to achieve the same goal. Making music is fun, but developing a passion for it gives it the life that nothing else can.

Qualifications:
A.A. Traditional Music
B.M. Music Education
17 Years Performance Experience
6 years
teaching Elementary School Band and Choir
3 years teaching High School Band and Choir
6 years teaching privately

In my time working as a music tutor, I have helped students falling behind in their performance classes to exceed expectations and come out ahead of their class in the end. As a teacher, my students continue to impress me with their application of knowledge towards their other classes, and continue to perform and compete.

*** Lesson Details ***
The first lesson is about getting to know each other. From here, I can decide how and what should be taught.

My lessons are laid back and include small breaks, especially for beginners. I understand that learning certain techniques can be frustrating. I also understand that a student can become tired. These short two minute breaks are used to further discuss the technique, theory, and history behind the literature. It also helps to strengthen the bond that I like to create with my students.

I use much of the same curriculum that band instructors use in the Sacramento area, making transferring from private lesson to band and other ensembles easier. I focus on both solo and ensemble literature, helping the student succeed as both a solo performer and an ensemble performer. With this, I also give a small amount of theory and history so that the student can develop a relationship with their instrument and the music.

I do give practice homework for each lesson to make sure the student keeps up with what we have learned and help them achieve their goals. I may also give research homework, or give the student a worksheet to complete by the next lesson in order to better understand the music and the time period they are working with.

Lessons start with a warm up and review to cover concepts before moving on to new ones. I only teach as fast as the student would like to go. I only move on to the next exercise when the student feels comfortable and ready.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Looking into adding a studio in the Sacramento Area.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my own horn for instruction. I expect the student to provide their own instrument and have their own book to work from so that they may practice between sessions.

*** Specialties ***
Teach: Classical
Specialize in Classical with emphasis in solo and ensemble playing

About Esther
I'm Esther, a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself piano and singing in a choir at the age of 9. I moved to the U.S. in 1992 and studied music for 10 years receiving my B.M. & M.M in music at California State University of Sacramento. I studied and trained with Claudia Kitka & Jackie Victorino for voice and Kirsten Smith, Joan McDe, & Angel Mamn for piano. I have performed many solo concerts in the U.S. as well as South Korea.

I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, kind, flexible, and enthusiastic and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support basic skills: sight-reading, pitch and tone.

I have 30 years experience teaching kids and adults private piano and 6 yrs voice coaching (early period to contemporary). I spe
ak fluent Korean and English.

*** Lesson Details ***
My objectives: to help students powerfully communicate through the essence of music and aid the development of children and adults by finding their strengths and weaknesses and to develop their skills and show their musical talents. I emphasize basic skills, good sight-reading, and Solfege skills (Do-Re-Me...etc), vocal technique, vocal performance, and Alexandria technique. Students participate in their own recital and show their musical talents.

Lessons are held at either your home, or mine using composers from various time periods that speaks to the individual student.
Also,I do prefer to work a weekly student.
A beginner lesson may be 10-15 min. for warm-ups and scales, 10-15 min. theory and 10 min. playtime. In three to six months the student will be able to read sheet music and should be able to perform simple songs.

An intermediate lesson is longer, 45-50 min., with more focus on music from a specific chosen time-period. A specialty is preparation for voice and piano auditions for entering college.

I enjoy teaching children from age 5 up to adults. I also can teach beginner guitar.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, electronic keyboard, guitar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar

*** Specialties ***
I teach the basic skills very strongly, and also encourage students and, challenge them, as well.
I also have new techniques for teaching voice and piano.
I do prefer to teach a weekly lesson.

Theory is the musical secret that results in sounding like you know what you're doing. The music ends up sounding like you know what you're doing because you DO! :) It's one thing to know another riff, another song, another chord, but filing everything you hear over a period of years into a mental library of theory puts the aspect of playing by ear in an organized array of memories that you draw on thereafter. That arrangement of your musical memories can be a big mess, or it can be an organized inner tool for your music. Theory is that difference.

About Loren
Loren is a well-known music instructor and has been teaching private music lessons in the Elk Grove area since 2002. He has been teaching for years and years, has two music degrees and is an active performer in many styles, enjoying a steady gigging schedule in the Sacramento area. He's "the real deal."

*** Lesson Details ***
The lessons are of the highest quality available as the student learns to read music, is guided in music theory with ear training, technique, and performance, however performance remains optional. There are options.

We often begin with songs that the student already likes. Sometimes that's the ticket. From Bach to the Beatles, Taylor Swift to Bob Dylan, there are always great entrance points.

Theory, (chords, intervals, scales, cadences, etc.) Reading music, (tabs, traditional music notation, charts), Te
chnique, (right and left hand patterns), it's all covered. It's fun and legitimate education.

*** Specialties ***
Lessons in piano or guitar cover all popular music styles including country, rock, and classical.

I give students a comprehensive, practical curriculum in classical and contemporary music theory. Music theory, to me, is neither dry nor complicated if it's presented in the right context. I am well versed in traditional theory, jazz and improvisation theory, and contemporary concepts. I like to help a student learn what will be helpful to them, and teach concepts that may open new doors for their artistic growth.

About Thomas
I am a saxophonist, composer, and improviser from the East Bay area. I hold an MA in Music Composition from Mills College in Oakland, CA, and a BM in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have been teaching saxophone and guitar lessons since 2005, and maintain an active schedule performing original music.

I have taught students saxophone and guitar independently in the Bay Area, Boston, and New York, in students' homes and my own home and rehearsal spaces. I have taught children as young as 10 years old, adult beginners, and professional musicians learning to double on saxophone. I have taught students for up to five years consecutively, and have also given master class style one-off lessons.

As a student with some prior music experience but no saxophone experience, Tom was able to help me work on my saxophone technique while always mainting a creative, musical, and compositional approach to even the most mundane exercise. As a percussionist transitioning over to the world of wind instruments, I can't thank Tom enough for helping to guide me along the way. He's great at breaking down larger concepts into smaller, more manageable pieces, and I never felt overwhelmed or pressured by his teaching methods. I really appreciated Tom's friendly and casual approach, as I know from prior experience that a convival atmosphere does wonders for helping to learn an instrument in a stress-free way. Can't recommend him enough, two thumbs up!

P.S. Be sure to ask him for jazz recommendations, the guy's got quite the taste!

Ever wonder why theory is important? A lot of people don't want to learn theory or are scared of it. If this is you, I'll explain how to navigate music without using theory while also showing how theory can be a helpful tool. If you're here to learn more about theory because you need to or you're interested in learning more about it, some of the topics I'll cover are listen below.

Tailored to your skill level, you'll learn:
-high vs low notes
-ascending vs descending
-sharps, flats, and naturals
-key signatures
-time signatures
-major vs minor
-other modes
-rhythm and melody
-transcriptions
-form
-chord recognition
-intervals
-harmonies
-transposition
-much more!

My teaching style is casual, yet theoretical. I'm easy going, but also passionate. I tailor my style and difficulty to match each individual student.

If you have any questions or want to meet in person to see if it's a good fit, let me know! :)

Alex

About Alex
MUSIC: My first private lessons were on piano at 8 years of age with piano lessons, I learned about he basic fundamentals of music (scales, melodies, harmonies, rhythm, time and key signatures, accidentals, etc.). After discovering that rhythms were the most interesting to me, I decided to start drum lessons and fell in love with it. After taking private lessons and mastering my craft, new doors were opened: wedding gigs, an amazing high school band experience, and even performances in Spain and New York. I started teaching in 2012 and developed the comfort to share what I've learned over the years. If the student is willing to work hard, I can provide the knowledge and wisdom to help the student improve. TUTORING: I've always been strong in math- and science-type classes.
