Hello future violin students -- and welcome to violin class!!

I have been playing the violin since age 10, and have fond memories of having a loving and patient teacher when first starting out. My goal is to make violin playing fun, exciting, and get you playing as quickly as I can.

My method is a combination of traditional violin technique (mainly Franco-Belgian and Russian schools of violin playing). Once the student has developed a good foundation, we then start experimenting with different styles of music such as Latin, Jazz, Bluegrass/Country, Film Music, and even Electronica/EDM/Hip-Hop.

Yep - all styles are possible on the violin!

I look forward to helping you on your musical journey as you embark on learning the beauty and intricacies of the violin!

Happy Practicing!

About Nicolas
Hello there, future string players and welcome to my profile!!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2
years. During this time, I was able to take lessons from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

Curriculum - I will primarily be using the books in the Suzuki Violin School: Violin Part, Vol. 1 - Vol. 4, A Tune A Day: String Method, and A Tune and Day: Beginning Scales. For theory, I use Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory. For children, expect lots of interactive learning games, fun theory riddles and worksheets!

After students have advanced past basic violin skills, I may bring in supplemental material - pieces from pop culture or Disney tunes that the students are interested in. Theory will be taught in class as it relates to the piece we are working on, and I will supply additional worksheets when necessary.

After students have advanced past the Suzuki Violin School, Violin Part, Volume 10, I may introduce violin concertos by Mendelssohn and Mozart. Because performance is an integral part to the Suzuki method, I encourage my students to perform once a year at our annual recital. Shy students, never fear! I will work with you extensively to make your piece beautiful. ...

About Sarah
I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English and can speak some Taiwanese, and enjoy teaching students of all ages. With over 10 years of teaching experience, I am able to tailor the speed, curriculum and style of each lesson to the individual. By default, I will teach music in the Suzuki Violin series, but I am more than happy to arrange or find violin parts for songs you are interested in!

I like to make my classes fun, and I am constantly thinking of new ways to engage young musicians. I help my students fall in love with the music using the Suzuki method - emphasizing constant immersion in music, regular performances, music theory, posture and artistic expression. Learning music is like learning a language; you must immerse yourself in it by listening to it daily and practicing. With younger children, I am very nurturing and adept
at incorporating learning games to make performance fun. Music theory can be boring, so I tie in music theory as it relates to the pieces we are currently learning, and make learning it a game. I have over 10 years of experience teaching kids Pre-K – 6th grade, so I am very patient, nurturing and kind, but strict when I need to be.

My family moved around a lot during my childhood, but music remained the one constant in my life. Playing the violin gives me a lot of joy and I hope to pass on the joy of music to my students!

An outstanding teacher for both adults and children

The Short Version: I totally and wholeheartedly recommend Sara for anybody at any age considering studying Violin.

The Long Version: As a beginner adult student and a child care provider, I feel I have a very unique perspective into Sara's teaching style.

Studying under Sara has been absolutely wonderful and has really fueled my progress with the violin. Within five minutes of the first lesson you can tell how excited she is to be teaching you something she is so clearly passionate about. She's positive and patient in her instruction and in learning from her, you get the feeling she wants you to be your best so that one day you could even play alongside her. That, along with her professionalism, sincerity and respect makes her truly valuable as a teacher.

However, as good as she is with adults, I think she's even better with children. I provide private child care for a living (which is just a fancy way of saying I'm a nanny). I work with children ranging from 20 months to 14 years old and I'm very good at my job. In my experience, I've found that you can tell that some people, for some reason, are just good with kids. It requires a certain balance of patience, enthusiasm and authority and it all has to seem easy. Sara possesses these qualities in abundance. The violin can seem like a complicated instrument to a beginner and it can be frustrating (believe me, I know), but Sara has a knack for breaking things down in a way your child will understand and, more importantly, have fun doing it.

So why are you still reading this? Go and sign up already! :)

*** Lesson Details ***
I strongly believe that, if every child would be provided with an ideal environment, would gain extraordinary ability. There are no exceptions. No one can tell how able man is by the nature. What is known is the ability that is spoiled or developed. It cannot be denied that most children speak their native languages beautifully by learning about 3000-4000 words by age 5 or 6. Nothing can clearer demonstrate of the original power of the human mind. Through the years of studying and teaching music I realized that this is the most important concept for developing each kid's talent, to increase his or her ability to the maximum. Therefore I am combining the great methods of teaching violin. The Suzuki method and the Russian school method. Suzuki method helps at the earliest stage of playing an instrument and I am using later Russian school method for more advanced period of studying.

I've taught violin for over ten years. I promise you'll have an exciting first lesson! I've been a violinist for Glee (1000 Miles), Kevin Olusola (Pentatonix, "Heart Attack"), and Perla Batalla (Leonard Cohen). I have a BFA degree in Violin Performance/Composition from the California Institute of the Arts.

Our lessons will focus on strengthening technique and sight-reading skills first and foremost, and we'll get you started to being the violinist you've always wanted to look and sound like.

About Andy
I am Andy. I am a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts with a BFA degree in Composition/Violin Performance. I will be attending school again in the Fall to get my teaching certificate to teach in the public school system. My violin playing has been featured on Glee, with Kevin Olusola (Pentatonix), and guitar featured on shows like Rachel Ray and Dr. Phil. My main passions are songwriting, and collaborating with other great musicians all over the country.

I have been a private music teacher for the past 8 years and it has been an extremely rewarding journey. My students love their lessons with me, and parents love that I am patient and more open-minded than most music teachers out there. Students say I am friendly and funny, and fun to learn with. My teaching style on the violin is centered around the Suzuki method, but I l
eave a lot of flexibility to cater lessons around your interests. If you ask to play a certain song, I will find a way to help you play it. Every goal is achievable with practice, dedication, and fun!

Hi everyone! Whether you've been playing for years or just in your first foray into music, there's something I can help you with. I have a Master's from Juilliard and also studied in London, performed all over the world and played with many other musicians. If you'd like to hear some examples, I play both classical and popular tunes. So if you have an interest in learning to play your favorite pop songs, I can work on that with you as well. In addition to playing the violin, I think it's important for all students to learn to read music as early as possible, and it's not always taught in schools or after school programs.
If you're applying to a college conservatory or preparatory music program I can get you ready for an audition, or if you'd like your kids to advance in a way that it just isn't possible in a group learning program at school, I'd be glad to work on these! I have also taught many adult learners who are either first time musicians or coming back to playing after a long ...
