We did online tonight per my request. Michael is so patient and encouraging and he answers my questions that are endless. I feel hopeful that I am learning the correct form and things I definitely would not pick up just trying to teach myself through the book. Thank you Michael!

I started playing with the Suzuki method at age 5. I have been teaching cello to ages 5 to adult for over 8 years. While not a concert or symphony level player, I have been providing quality lessons and guidance to beginners and intermediate players of all ages and interest for years. As with all of my lessons, I provide a core curriculum as well as customizing to the student's needs and interest. From Bach and other Suzuki classics, to modern favorites like The Beatles or Pirates of the Caribbean.

Based on playing ability, I try to tailor a student's goals to their time available to practice and motivation. Just like with any craft, playing an instrument is a discipline that needs attention, and I want the best outcome the student feels that they can produce. We will have fun discovering the joys of learning music!

About Keats

Hello! I am currently a college student in Lakeland, Florida at Southeastern University. I am in the process of working on my undergraduate degree in music performance with a concentration on cello. I primarily began my studies in piano before taking cello lessons a few years later. I am a teacher

Keats is a skilled and perceptive teacher. I am dealing with many beginner issues and he always has multiple suggestions and ways of explaining how to accomplish the techniques I am working to master.
I am an accomplished flutist but just love the cello so decided to take lessons. He truly seems to enjoy sharing his knowledge.
I feel so fortunate to have found Keats because he really cares about me as an individual although I am truly old enough to be his grandmother. Outside of our lessons, he has sent me links to recordings, a new bow which I have purchased and am thrilled with, and various other cello-related matters of interest to a beginning cellist.
He does not insist that there's only one way to do things and has studied with a variety of teachers himself. He comes from a musical family so is very knowledgeable about classical music. A true musician who understands the love of music.
Lastly, I want to recommend Keats because he has a very gentle, kind manner and praises my work when it is good. He encourages me through frustrations and sets reasonable goals at each lesson.
I am also a music teacher and would recommend him for a student of any age. I know that the relationship that develops between teacher and student is crucial to a student's progress, and Keats is a real and caring person in the lesson, not some drill instructor. I think he would be fabulous with children and certainly relates very well to adults. Give him a try!

Three years of working with multiple orchestras and youth summer camps have prepared me to teach students of all ages and experience levels. My lessons involve teaching extensive topics beyond cello fundamentals like aural skills and music theory. Incorporating these aspects of musicianship will reinforce your progression of playing the cello.

About Isaiah

I am a professional cellist, soloist, and music teacher. I am studying my Bachelor of Music at the University of Georgia. My experience as a musician started as a choral ensemble member for four years. I later picked up the cello at the conventionally late age of 16 but excelled to become a full t

"I began cello lessons with JoAnn almost a year ago. This was an instrument I had always wanted to learn, so I bought a good student cello and nervously scheduled my first half hour lesson. Her availability didn't initially work well with my plan to take lessons prior to coming in to my work, but a quick phone call and we worked out a very agreeable schedule.

Eleven months later, our weekly 60 minute lessons are very enjoyable and I am progressing well. JoAnn has been very accommodating with her schedule, last-minute cancellations, and patience. Sometimes I dread my next lesson because I've been too busy to practice or too fatigued from work, but an hour later I leave with a smile on my face and more confidence with my instrument. Hey, this is fun!

I would not hesitate to recommend JoAnn to anyone, especially a busy, working adult. She is a very skilled cellist and teacher, incorporating many lessons from other disciplines into this. While her teaching course has been different than I expected (lots of focus on slow playing and no vibrato yet), I believe my playing is much, much better because of it. In the beginning I had planned on a couple months of weekly lessons. Now a year later, I have no intention of stopping - way too much fun! Thank you JoAnn!"

"Excellent, patient instructor. She didn't let my bad habits go unchallenged, giving me kind and consistent correction. The seemingly small corrections to form reduced fatigue and improved my playing. She was always great at communication. The best part for me was she did not insist I as an older adult learner practice from an elementary book. She suggested interesting pieces and studies that challenged me without overwhelming. Highly recommend Jessica for all age levels."

What Does it Take to Become a Professional Cello Player?

Pursuing a career in music is a risky decision, because by the nature of the industry few artists can “make it big.” Most artists aren’t pop stars, or even full-time career musicians, and all musicians also teach to remedy this.
