No student and no musician can truly understand music without understanding music theory. Playing the piano without knowing the notes is similar to trying to read a book without knowing letters. By default, I teach music theory simultaneously to all of my piano students. If you would like to focus more heavily on music theory, this class is for you! Depending on the student's level, we will be able to cover music theory related concepts starting with the very fundamentals all the way to graduate-level content. I have had the pleasure of teaching Music Theory both privately as well as at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire.

Ms. Ozawa,
Is a wonderful teacher. She observes and evaluates a student's skills and then discusses with you areas that need improvement. She teachers students how to use breathing and piano together. Overall I am so happy I found her and was able to learn all the basic from her. I have been to a few other teachers in the past and did not get from them what she taught me. She taught me how to understand music better and how appreciate such a wonderful art.

Nils is a capable teacher with clearly evident musical experience. I have been taking lessons from him for about 3 months now. He is particularly gifted at interpreting how a work should be played based on how it sounds or has been performed in the past, a skill he brings to bear for his students.

Nils is an extremely knowledgeable and accomplished instructor. He has extraordinary patience and excellent teaching skills. Coming from an adult student with high expectations, Nils has constantly delivered instructional value far beyond beyond what my paid "app" lessons were able to teach me. I highly recommend you give Nils a shot if you want to take your guitar playing to the next level.

I have been teaching music theory for years. Since 2012 I have been teaching in many schools and churches to help my students understand what they are playing, what they want to play and what they hear. My students can hear a chord and tell me if it is major/minor/diminished/augmented/dominant etc. They also will be able to figure out what key a song is in by ear and what key a vocalist is singing in for accompaniment. I teach the number system to those who want to know which chords fit in each key. This includes the number system which is the method that MOST performing musicians use while they write, play gigs and tour.

"This dude is fire 100%.
I’ve been watching Marks live streams and have been blown away by the quality of his audio in the streams themselves and his quality compositions. He his engaged with his audience at every turn and in his sets and always bring the highest energy to his performance and shares trade secrets and wisdom to his viewers. He is very technically skilled in audio engineering and computers in general. Great dude to have in any musical alliance. His knowledge of theory and his technical prowess are just top notch. Enough said.

"By far the best teacher I have ever had. Paul makes lessons engaging, and his wealth of knowledge never comes off as elitist. He explains complicated theory in a practical way for anyone to understand. If I wasn't leaving Chicago I would have signed up for ten more lessons. Ask him about the own music he makes with his band. He's a super talented guy!!!"

"Before attending Berklee College of Music, I had zero formal music theory training. In addition to that disadvantage, I've also struggled with a learning disability my whole life. Because of all this, once classes started, I quickly realized I was in way over my head, and requested a tutor to help- which is when I met Eli! After our first session, it was clear that "knowledgeable" or "helpful" are really understatements when describing his level of expertise. What Eli is, is brilliant- he knows music theory like the front and backs of his hands, and is able to COMMUNICATE it to you in a clear and easy way. Not only did I learn more effectively with Eli's help, but my music theory professor nominated me for the music theory spring scholarship award, and I won! I never would have gotten as far as I did in my music theory studies without his help; I truly admire his intelligence. And lastly, but certainly not least-ly, he is an absolute PLEASURE to work with- I didn't just get a great tutor, but I got a great friend too! Please do yourself a favor and work with Eli, I can promise you you won't be disappointed!"
