Shadwa is awesome! She’s very patient and understanding of student needs. She’s also very encouraging and helpful, whether you’ve had violin experience or not, and makes learning to play so much fun!
Christine
I have learned a lot from my lessons with Shadwa. She has a knack for explaining technique, for making the connections between the physical movement and the sound produced. (Yes, it really does help to stand up straight!) She takes a personal interest in her students, which makes for a great lesson atmosphere. We established longer term goals that we could work towards; I appreciated her patience and creativity. Even scales became more than just boring drills! I definitely recommend her as a viola teacher for adults!

Olivia gives very clear instructions on what homework should be done between lessons. She is helping me to learn about harmonics, articulation and breathing as well as what notes to play. Sometimes, I feel embarrassed that even with practice, my playing is rough. However, Olivia is very patient-giving specific feedback about how to improve while congratulating me on progress.

Olivia is knowledgeable and patient. She introduced me to exercises to help my technique and intonation. Promptly after the lesson, she sent me detailed instructions on how to practice until my next lesson.

I highly recommend Olivia! 🌞

Johnny is experienced in teaching cello. His lessons are always passionate, musical, and informative. There are several aspects of his lessons that I'd like to share.

1. Full of Content: He delivers enough details of a new technique with simplification for an easy understanding.
2. Learning Curve: By breaking down and reorganizing the knowledge, he teaches new concepts step by step, from approachable actions to efficient actions.
3. Customization: He helps you find out a suitable solution to grow on the techniques based on your own physical and cognitive characteristics.
4. Experimentation: The correct ways he suggests you do is demonstrated by experimenting with different ways for comparison, which you would not only know what to do but know the reason behind it.

Cello is a beautiful yet complicated instrument. To enjoy it, a great mentorship is necessary and truly valued.
Nina
After coming from a high pressure - pre professional cello teacher, Johnny Mok is a breath of fresh air! I am learning at a faster rate and accomplishing more due to his relaxed and happy teaching style. So glad I found you Jonny!

"I play in a rock band that wanted to add some Sinatra type jazz songs to our repertoire. I was tasked to play bass with which I had very little experience. I decided to take some lessons with Gary to learn a little jazz theory and technique. He was a wonderful teacher. He focused in on exactly what I needed quickly and pointed me toward resources that I could use to improve. Despite my limited abilities, Gary was always patient and displayed good humor. When I needed him to write a bass line for me quickly so that I could take it on vacation, he made the time to make sure that I had what I needed. I enjoyed our lessons and recommend him highly. Gary is a teacher who truly cares about his students."

We don’t have any grand aspirations for him, but he likes to bang around and we wanted to give him some direction to see if he latched on to it. Our main objective is that he has fun. Brian is GREAT with him and he looks forward to it every week. 10/10!"

How to Change the Key of a Song With and Without a Computer

What Does it Mean to Change a Key? To change a song’s “key” means to shift the whole musical system to a higher or lower position. This process is called “transposition.” Performers often need transpose a song to better fit their voices. That way, a performer with a naturally lower singing voice (like myself) will be able to more comfortably sing a song that was originally written for someone with a naturally higher voice. Or vice versa.  For singers, transposition feels fairly …
