I teach basic Music Theory to all my students so that they understand the role of the cello in an orchestral position as well in chamber music. But it is essential to understand the basics of music theory. So I make it a rule that each student learn music theory every 2 weeks during their lesson.

About Arlette

Arlette C. grew up and attended schools in Culver City, California. She attended Los Angeles Valley College where she received an Associate of Arts degree in Music. She then received a partial scholarship and received the Margaret Aue Award for outstanding cellist while attending California State

No words can express how good she is at teaching cello
Layla
As an adult learner, I was intimidated by the prospect of learning the cello because it’s such a demanding instrument, but Arlette has put these apprehensions at ease. She is wonderfully experienced which gives the student a very solid foundation; essential to playing the cello well. Highly recommend her as an instructor for any aspiring cellist.
Joshua
I started playing cello at 26 years old with absolutely zero musical experience of any kind. After 6 months of attempting to teach myself the cello, I decided I needed help and begun my journey to find myself a cello instructor. I was so fortunate to find Arlette! Arlette was abundantly patient with me, from my habit of asking too many questions to my very unpredictable availability. Before Arlette started teaching me music theory and how to play the cello, I never appreciated the value of having an instructor. After having taken lessons from her for nearly a year, I would simply say having a fine instructor like Arlette is a necessity. The first time I played a duet was with Arlette, and it was a moment in my life I am so thankful for and I will never forget! She is kind and consistent, very professional but also very personable which is a very hard thing to balance. She pushed me to excel without making me feel overwhelmed. I could go on forever about how great a cello instructor Arlette is so I will finish with this... If you are looking for a cello teacher look no further.

I trained in theory at UCLA with Paul Reale and continued my studies throughout my years in graduate school. I am well versed in analyzing music and know a lot of repertoire. I have skill in the Sibelius music writing program and used Finale for years so I can help budding and more advanced composers as well.

I am 43 years old and was scared to take on such a difficult instrument but I really wanted to learn how to play the beautiful cello. I had my first lesson and am very happy with Claire. She is friendly, accommodating, patient, and explains her lesson in a clear and easy manner (as easy as you can get with the cello). I had a lot of questions and she was very open in answering all of them. Although I am still at the very very beginnings of my journey, I am very excited to continue with the cello lessons, thanks to Claire.

The first lesson was excellent. I completed my first private cello lesson since playing about 44 years ago. It was wonderful. The teacher is very organized and very nice. I thought maybe the lesson would be a lesson of remembering what I had forgotten from so long ago, but I actually learned new things. I'm excited to attend the next lesson.

Claire works at your pace, but expects you to progress at a steady rate. It's the perfect balance between understanding the student's ability and reasonable expectations for advancement.

Michelle feels it is incredibly important that all vocal/singing students have at least a basic understanding of music theory, reading music and ear training. This greatly assists them as they mature as a singer and as a performer, giving them the confidence, skills and knowledge to thrive in their musical endeavors. Michelle designs a specific curriculum for each student’s goals and needs so that these important music skills can be fun and accessible to anyone.

About Michelle

I believe that everyone can sing, it is just a matter of learning how to use your own unique instrument. From a very young age, as a performer, I was sharing my love of the arts with others. I grew up with an immense appreciation for the self-expression and creativity that result from all forms of

I’m a beginner singer with no prior experience. I’m very nervous about singing and always put off lessons because I was worried I would never be able to become a “singer”. I’ve only had my first lesson so far but it was a lot of fun and very educational. I learned a lot in just one hour and had a blast along the way. I definitely chose the right instructor and if you’re thinking about Michelle for your lessons just do it! She is great!
