Playing a piece in private is one thing; playing in front of an audience is another. Music Performance is an important aspect of one's musical education, and together we'll learn how to refine a piece, tackle nerves, and give a performance that will be remembered.

About Christopher
pianomancan.com

My name is Christopher, or Chris for short. I am a composer, arranger, pianist, vocalist, and private tutor. I have taught private lessons in classical and contemporary piano performance, vocal performance, guitar performance, music theory, and musicianship to local students for the past 10 years. I currently have nearly 40 weekly students all over Ventura County. I attended CSUN's school of music where I received my Bachelor's of Music in Music Composition. My other experience includes teaching at 2 different music studios (Perry Music Studios and Brookyln's Conservatory of Music), teaching Confirmation classes to teenagers at St. Jude's Catholic Church, and teaching English to Japanese high school students through the Rotary Youth Exchange Program.

*** Lesson Details ***
My philosophy when it comes to doing anythi
ng with music is that it should be fun! Whether you're practicing a piece, playing with a band, writing something new, or even learning music theory, music is primarily about enjoying yourself and the others around you.

The best way to ensure that you enjoy yourself is to learn what you want to learn and play what you want to play. In addition to a standard curriculum, I want you to tell me what kind of music you're interested in and what kind of pieces you want to play! Do you love classic rock? Do you love pop? Blues? Jazz? Folk tunes? Opera? Or maybe you're a fan of the classical masters? Whatever the case may be, my number one goal is to make sure you're having fun while you develop your new talents.

I'm comfortable teaching students as young as 7 years of age, although I can teach even younger if they are especially well-behaved.

I really like working with Chris a lot for several reasons. First he is a very kind & enthusiastic teacher who is always very cheerful and always brings his best to the lessons. As an adult student, I'm not very confident about myself. He has helped to bring that confidence back. He was able to help me tackle the speed problem for a piece of music that I was having trouble with for a long time. And with just a few words of advice, he was able to help me fix the problem right away. Chris is truly a fantastic teacher! I'm glad to be his student.

Performance skills are arguably as important as music prowess. The student needs to learn how to find the balance between confidence and vulnerability on stage. Since I had horrific stage fright myself, I very successfully guide students through the nerves of inexperience to the joy of confidence (which rarely comes from preparation alone!)

About Toni
The Signal published an article on Oct.26, 2018: "Local musician Liza Donihue Signs Development Deal". Liza started studying with me through Takelessons in 2016. Just a couple of seasons ago one of my amazing students, Juliana Chahayed made top 40 on American Idol! 2 of my students recently made it through two rounds of The Voice. 12 of my students sang on the Grammy Award nominated "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" by M83. My students have also gotten into top music programs at Berklee College of Music, NYU, USC, Brandeis and Cal State University Northridge; won 1st prize in the high school talent show and money prizes in community singing contests. My singers have sung the Star Spangle Banner at Staples Center for a Clipper's game and produced successful showcases in the LA area. My story starts a while back: As a singer/songwriter
my experiences singing live from Bud Friedman's Improv to the Disneyland Hotel and in studios all across Los Angeles eventually took me to Europe where I landed in Brussels and recorded an album for Sony Records/Belgium which produced three radio hits in the 90's. I also recorded and/or wrote jingles for Coca Cola, Fanta, Schwepes, Fisher Price and more! Fluent in French, when I moved back to the states I taught at Lycee International de Los Angeles for 12 years where I developed a music program for their 4 campuses, teaching K through 12, including commendations from everyone from French President Sarkozy to Los Angeles Councilman Tom LeBonge. I've recorded 6 children's CD's and recently directed and arranged background vocals for renown French singer and actress Charlotte Gainsbourg. In my private practice I have prepared and developed singers for live performance, personal development and for the rigors of the auditioning process. And we always have fun!!

*** Lesson Details ***
Learn to play the voice! I have developed my own special brand of singing lessons using breathing and placement techniques to provide the tools you need to develop as a vocalist and help you make the choices of an artist. How do you want to tell your story? My lessons will help you build confidence and every lesson will bring you a new piece of understanding and practical know-how. You will work hard, play hard, build a repertoire, and make tangible improvements in every single lesson! Success breeds success. If you want to audition for The Voice or simply enjoy the applause at karaoke night, I can bring you closer to your goal. I can also include beginning piano which can only add to your skills including an understanding of music vocabulary and the basic mechanics of music theory.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music Room, and recording studio, piano, guitars, computer and cd, ipod docs. Parents are welcome to stay for lessons or run to close-by Starbucks, Costco or Home Depot!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I use a piano to teach both voice and beginning piano.

*** Specialties ***
I use solfege, breathing and placement techniques filtered through an emphasis on real world performance skills. Helping the student build confidence is probably one of the teachers' most important roles. Creating a safe environment is key to keeping the lesson fun, productive and challenging. Every single student should leave every single lesson with a tangible feeling of progress.

Toni has been one of the most important people in my life. She taught me not only how to sing, but also how to perform and be a real musician. She makes the lessons incredibly fun and helpful. I wouldn't be the musician I am today without her.

I've had a few singing teachers before and let me just say it was always mediocre. It was all fundamentals and straight to techniques. With toni it was so much fun and very simple. She makes sure that I don't feel like I'm being tested or points out my flaws but rather my strength which makes me feel even more motivated to sing. She's an amazing instructor I recommend her to anyone who wants to have fun learning rather than feeling like they're in a class. She's passionate, kind and she is an amazing teacher. Take her

Very impressed so far. Toni didn't let on that the exercise was difficult until after. So my daughter flew through the lesson without fear because she's just doing what she loves and not thinking of struggle. Toni has the depth and breadth of musical knowledge but makes it fun and easy breezy. Everything out of her mouth has been exactly what I hoped to hear whether I realized it or not. I'm so grateful to have found her and I hope we can work together for a long time to come

About Danny
I have been playing and performing the drums for the past 10 years.

In a teaching situation I try and provide a relaxed and friendly environment in order to learn a students strengths and weaknesses. I want students to be able to learn at their own pace, and not to worry if they think they are not learning quickly enough.

I generally work as a for hire musician playing for various acts in the styles of rock, funk, blues, jazz, and even movie scores.

I have toured throughout California and have had the privilege to open for such artists as A Flock of Seagulls, Jennifer Leitham, Daniel Glass, and Jack Sheldon.
I have recorded drums for movies including Stomp the Yard, and Obsessed; played with acts such as Big Dave LIttle, Brett Copeland, and Kenji Igus. I have played with such jazz musicians including Richard Simon and Roger
Neumann.

I attended the AVPA from 2006 to 2009 and have a degree in Psychology.

*** Lesson Details ***
In the lesson setting I want the student to become as comfortable with the drums as possible. I like to maintain a relaxed environment, allowing the student to move at his or her own pace. This in mind, I believe the fundamentals are the most important to learn.

Students will first learn the basic hand techniques needed for accomplished drum playing, before moving on to more complex ideas behind groove, and feel. Reading music and keeping effective time will be emphasized in early lessons.

I also like to teach students that drums are a musical instrument that is typically played with other musicians. A student will learn how to play and interact well with other musicians in a variety of musical settings.

I use a combination of books for teaching including:
Syncopation by Ted Reed
The All-American Drummer by Charley Wilcoxon
The Drummer's Bible by Mick Berry and Jason Gianni
Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone
I will also use various drum charts and exercises as well as the use of videos and recordings.

After 3 to 6 months a student will be able to read drum notation and rhythms at a competent level and will be able to play basic drum beats on the drum kit as well as have a basic understanding of how to play with other musicians in various styles of music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Equipment includes two drumsets, drum pads, sticks, and instructional material.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Can bring drums if necessary, would prefer to bring a drum pad.
Expect the student to have drums.

*** Specialties ***

Dillon is a first rate guitar instructor!

I've taken lessons with Dillon for 5 months, and he has helped me make tremendous progress. I was lucky to find Dillon because my music interests are all over the place. I wanted to learn about fingerstyle, soul, jazz, blues, Latin music, music theory, transcribing for bands. Dillon helped me with all of those. He's the kind of person whose has really studied the guitar and can distill the music from many styles into a few simple ideas for the guitar, and explain those ideas in a memorable way.

I'll continue taking lessons from him, and would recommend him as a teacher to anyone looking for a teacher with charisma.

The class is essentially for students who have at least some basic knowledge of piano and music theory. Music performance is like a workshop class to radically improve the performing skills of the student. I will focus on specific techniques which will help the student perform more effectively. An intermediate level of piano is recommended for the class.

About Regina
At the age of fifteen, Ms. Regina graduated with honors from the Z. Paliashvili Special Music Gymnasium for Gifted Children in Tbilisi, Georgia. As a student of a famous Georgian pianist, Tengiz Amirejibi, she presented her country in numerous competitions. (Tengiz Amirejibi was a student of Heinrich Neuhaus, a famous Russian teacher and pianist.)

As a child, Ms. Regina gave many solo recitals and concerts with the Georgian Symphonic Orchestra. Ms. Regina earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts with emphasis on Advanced Piano Performance from the Yerevan State Conservatory. After graduating, she worked with talented children in her alma mater for many years. Later in her professional career, Ms. Regina taught at the Tbilisi State Conservatory as well as the Moscow Music Gymnasium.

With more than eighteen years of professional teachin
g experience, Ms. Regina is able to offer her students a diverse range of educational resources. She specializes in teaching piano, performance, and music theory to students of all ages and levels.

Ms. Regina's teaching techniques are based on a combination of the famous Russian Music School (based on music giants such as Konstantin Igumnov, Daniel Barenboim, and Heinrich Neuhaus) and the American Music Education System. This combination allows each student to work at a pace comfortable for him/her, and helps all students make significant progress in the areas of sight reading, ear training, and performance skills.

Working on your stage presence, technique, instrument practice, performance and preparation for performances.

About Brianna
Hi, I'm Bri! I'm a graduate of North Central College with a BA in Music (Emphasis in Composition and Percussion) and a minor in History. I absolutely love music, every single aspect of it. I love to make music a part of everybody's lives who want and need it. I want to help you with your musical needs. I have been playing percussion for 19 years, singing for 25, and playing piano for 20 years. I was a member of a recording and performing Chicago band, Oblio and Arrow, where I provided backing vocals and helped with the song arrangements. I am currently a member of Trip City Lights, an LA local funk/soul band, where I provide lead and backing vocals. I also record vocals for different artists hooks, jingles, choruses, and songs (covers and originals). I have also composed/arranged various pieces for ensembles, bands, vocal groups, choirs,
plays, musicals, commercials, etc. I've worked with folks locally in LA, and all over the world. I love what I do!

History has always fascinated me. The way our world has developed and changed and continues to evolve is amazing. Everything can be tied back to the past, and I feel it's important to take a look back, put yourself in that time, and really study how things were to help understand why things are the way they are now.

Crocheting and knitting are a couple of good habits/hobbies I picked up about 10 years ago. I sell scarves online and I'm always working on some sort of project. I will have you knitting and pearling with the best of them!

Music, history, crochet, and knitting....I'm your girl!

I will make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals. I have a warm personality, am extremely friendly, and will strive to get to know you.

I will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory and can also incorporate your favourite songs into your lessons (if there's any in particular that you would like to learn).

About Osvaldo
I've been playing clarinet for 16 years and have not stopped ever since. Music lessons was first introduced to me at the age of 8 by my godfather. He taught me basic music theory with the piano and trumpet. I gave up the trumpet at age 12 and moved on to the clarinet and played it in a community band named "Banda Juvenil Solaga, USA, Oaxaca."

By the time I made it to the university (CSULA), I began getting lessons from Helen G. Castro (She has and still is one of the best mentors I've ever gotten). I've performed 5 years with the Cal State LA Wind Ensemble under the conducting of Dr. Emily Moss (Another great mentor. She's one of the reasons why I decided to pursue a career in music education).

I've graduated in 2015, BM in the field of Music Education. Am still planning to pursue a Masters in Music Performance. But first, I still
have to save up.

I'm currently teaching in the Saturday Conservatory of Music and the New Life Vision Church. I'm private teaching as well; giving clarinet, saxophone, and oboe lessons.
