I have been playing the violin since age 10, and have fond memories of having a loving and patient teacher when first starting out. My goal is to make violin playing fun, exciting, and get you playing as quickly as I can.

My method is a combination of traditional violin technique (mainly Franco-Belgian and Russian schools of violin playing). Once the student has developed a good foundation, we then start experimenting with different styles of music such as Latin, Jazz, Bluegrass/Country, Film Music, and even Electronica/EDM/Hip-Hop.

Yep - all styles are possible on the violin!

I look forward to helping you on your musical journey as you embark on learning the beauty and intricacies of the violin!

Happy Practicing!

About Nicolas
Hello there!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2 years. During this time, I was able to take lesso
ns from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

I have to admit, starting violin lessons as an adult is really weird, but it's something I've always wanted to try. I tried another teacher on here and she was a bit impatient and short with me (how does she teach children??!), so I tried Nick due to his location from my home. He's been fantastic! He's a great combo of being patient, caring, and encouraging, but also stern enough to get me to do what I need to get better. I'm sure it's not easy working with an adult that can "talk back" haha. He clearly knows what he's doing and he helps motivate me to keep learning. And he's very understanding when I run a tad late sometimes. I imagine he'd be great with kids too if he's great with a difficult adult like me.

We've had our daughters learning violin for several years in a number of cities (Paris, Copenhagen, Stockholm and now Los Angeles). Nicks ranks among the best instructors we have had. From our experience, it is clear that he is a highly talented musician with strong leadership experience. He has high expectations but importantly, he combines this with patience and empathy which is perfect for working with our youngest who is an intermediate beginner as well as our oldest who is a bit more advanced and has been been playing in an orchestra for a number of years. We highly recommend Nick as an instructor for students of all ages and skill levels.

Nick taught orchestra at my child's school and was across the board disliked. He was sarcastic, condescending, and unfriendly in manner. Communicating with him was very unpleasant. So much so that the administration had to step in. Two years of him was enough to sour my child on the violin.

I teach all levels!

About Travis
I grew up in Los Angeles and went on to attend the University of Redlands .While at University, I played in the University Orchestra and a variety of other ensembles. In addition to violin, I also studied jazz guitar, so classical music is definitely not the only musical style I am familiar with.

I am lucky enough to study with Tamsen Beseke, who is a member of the LA Opera and a prolific session musician. I have also studied with Jeanne Skrocki, who is currently the Concertmaster of the Redlands Symphony Orchestra and the Assistant Concertmaster of the Pacific Symphony.

My musical experience with violin is not confined to classical! I also have experience with other styles, including Irish folk music and bluegrass. While classical is my bread and butter, I can take a more rounded approach in terms of exposure to musical styles if
desired.

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching lessons emphasizes making a friendly connection with my student. In my experience the student will learn the most when he or she feels comfortable asking questions and communicating with the instructor. I want my student to have fun and feel like progress is being made!

For beginners, the very first thing we go over is proper posture and bow hold. From there, we will move on to musical examples and basic violin techniques. I also incorporate basic music theory concepts into my lessons as needed. I have a strong grasp of that topic, and can teach my students more about it as necessary.

The materials I use include Suzuki(my favorite), String Builder, Laoureux, among others. I learned from a variety of materials in my lessons, and I find that great results come from using the best parts of multiple sources of materials.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio: lessons are taught in the living room. The student is expected to provide his or her own violin. Music stands are available. Parking is on the street.

Local Park: the lessons are in the community recreation center in a separate rehearsal room.

Seating is available at both locations.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide all printed materials, but I ask that my students to have their own violin.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Blues, Folk, Bluegrass, Gypsy Jazz

Travis is a cheerful, talented tutor who never fails to provide great, practical and simple to follow lessons which additionally are always fun to participate in. He's remarkably positive, and already I feel as though I have come on in leaps and bounds doing things with the violin that would have taken me an age to learn by myself. I hope that I continue learning with Travis for a long time to come.

She is able to teach many genres of music to all levels of musicianship, whether beginner or advanced, whether they want to learn Mozart or Coldplay, Aretha Franklin or Joni Mitchell . Her style of teaching utilizes the classical approach of theory and sight reading, but MOST IMPORTANTLY allows the student to explore the instrument freely while also achieving good musicianship. Having fun while honing the craft is the way to an enduring love of playing and is a principle she always uses in her lessons.

Carmen has a special gift with very young children; she is able to keep children interested, engaged, inspired and challenged. She has a patience with children that is extraordinary because she believes strongly in the ability of music to enrich child

While studying classical techniques, she also taught herself other genres of music which enabled her to play, record and perform with musicians of almost every genre by 19.

Carmen has been taught and trained by many professional working musicians of impressive musical carrer heights Her former opera/ vocal coach Shonie Lebie attended The Julliard School on a full scholarship before going on to The Metropolitan Opera House. Piano teacher Shoshana Ben Horin, a graduate of Prague Conservatory of Music and concert pianist, toured all of Europe before instructing Carmen in piano. Carmen has learned cello and other string instruments from professional working musicians here in Los Angeles.

Ms. Lee is the best instructor ever!!!! When I started taking lessons with her, I was blown away by how much progress we made in one short lesson! She helped me grow so much! She is everything you would see in a perfect teacher: Kind, compassionate, knowledgable, and has the most amazing personality! She knows exactly what to do for every piece of music that I learn, and teaches me new techniques in every lesson that I carry on to every ensemble I participate in! Going off to my university next year, I am sad that I cannot have lessons with her when I leave. But I know that she was the one who got me there, who prepared me for college level of music at a university ranked number one in the nation for orchestral music. She helped make me who I am today, and I will forever be grateful to have her as a tutor and a friend! and to whom it may concern, I promise you that if you pick her as your tutor you are making the best decision of your life!

Ms. Diana is very sweet and patient teacher. My son and daughter are learning Piano and Violin with Ms. Diana. She knows how to make kids be interested in music. She has a talent to make my kids enjoy her lesson. We have taking her lessons for 3 years and I feel we are very lucky to start our kids' music lessons with her. Because I have seen so many students have hard time to reset their thinking of music and posture once they got used to learn music from bad teachers.

My daughter , Celine has been learning violin from Ms. Diana Kim for 3 years.
At first, Celine had to change all her bad posture from her previous teacher. After 6 months , Celine was able to correct her bad posture and she won a lot of competitions and passed certificate auditions and orchestra auditions.
Ms. Kim always says bad posture is very related to mad sound and it makes a limit to be improved as a violin player.
What I was impressed was Ms. Kim came most of my daughter's competitions and auditions, recitals. Ms. Kim encouraged my daughter when my daughter was so nervous to play on the stages. I can feel Ms. Kim really loves her students and cares a lot once people become her students.
Bi- Monthly student recital in her studio, helps a lot for kids who wants to have a stage experience and it is very important for their confidence.
I heard Ms. Kim started to teach in Youth orchestra and music colleges. I cheer for her students and her teaching classes.
I strongly recommend Ms. Kim for your kids. A great teacher makes huge difference of performance and most of all their student's personality and future.

The violin is the most popular of the classical stringed instruments, therefore it is seen and heard in multiple different areas, such as orchestras, movies, video games, and even music you hear on the radio. Although it is very competitive in the world of violin, it is still an instrument that anyone can enjoy, no matter what you decide to do with it. In our lessons, I will make sure that your abilities and interest in the violin are nurtured and increased through our incorporation of technical, musical, and theoretical aspects. We will build your foundations and help you achieve whatever it is you want to do, whether it be getting into an outside orchestra or just improving your abilities. As we build your technique, we will also learn music that will further challenge your new abilities, but that is also something you want to learn. Hello! My name is Taylor and I'm so glad that you're interested in music! Here's a little bit about myself. I am currently enrolled at CSULB as a junior and I am double majoring in viola performance and music education. I have been playing violin for nine years, and I have been playing viola for four years, both with private instruction. Along with violin and viola, I also play cello, French horn, marching percussion, mallet percussion, piano, and guitar. Along with enrolling in and passing seven AP classes in high school, I was part of the marching band and winter drumline along with an outside orchestra that allowed for me to perform solos across the US and Europe. I have performed music at Disneyland, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Segerstrom, the 2012 Olympic Games in London, multiple churches and cas
tles in England, France and Germany, such as the Bristol Cathedral, Mont St. Michel, the Chambord Castle, and St Nikolai Church. Music is my passion and gives me an outlet for expression no matter how I'm feeling. Aside from music, school is very important to me, and I am proud to say that my GPA is a 3.93.
