I have been teaching music theory (the explanation of music) for over thirty years. I started off as a guitarist who primarily played by ear. When I tried to learn theory in a piano based class it didn't connect. It was finally taught to me in a way that was easy, painless, and fun! You'll learn why an "E" chord is called a E chord. In fact, you'll learn how to construct any chord. You'll learn scales, and how they apply to chords and songs. You'll learn to transcribe songs, change keys, songwriting, chord melody, ear training, keys, arpeggios, improvising...all, at your pace. You'll say, "That wasn't as hard as I thought it was."

About Anthony
As a third generation musician, I've been playing professionally and teaching for over 25 years. I've had years of private lessons, graduated from GIT in Hollywood, taken college music courses and continue to perform, record, and teach music. YOU can have fun, learning songs that YOU like, or you can learn music theory (the explanation of music) or study different styles from rock to pop to hard core to blues, funk etc. All at YOUR pace. Many of my students, started from the point where they had never picked up an instrument and have gone on to tour or earn full music scholarships. It doesn't matter if it's a young girl wanting to learn some Disney Artist or some burly blue collar worker wanting to learn some Clapton: YOU can have fun learning guitar while improving at a rapid rate. Contact me, I'll make learning music and guitar a
very painless process.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm serious and passionate about my students learning their instrument and becoming great musicians, however, I also want it to be an enjoyable process. You should look forward to your lessons but know I'm going to expect you to practice as well. I use a combination of my own curriculum and books that are based on the fundamentals of music. We can learn to read tablature or read traditional music. A excellent way to pick music at a quick pace is by learning songs in the style you like, while learning about the keys, scales, arpeggios, and chord construction once you're able to play some songs. After 3 or 6 months you will be playing a basic repertoire of songs that interest you while continuing to progress at a steady pace in the understanding of music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
North County Rehearsal Studio is a rehearsal hall with private lesson room, we have the amps to plug into and audio equipment so we can listen and learn from the music YOU like!!!  I can also come to YOUR house if the rehearsal located in Brea is too far.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to have a guitar or bass so they can practice at home with. I could bring or provide a small practice amp and a music stand and some study materials. I teach in Orange County and I live in L.A County so If I need to come to your house I can cover a big area.

*** Specialties ***
During the course of my 20 plus years of teaching, I have had to teach individuals of all levels. I have had to teach little girls Hanna Montana, and blue collar workers--Eric Clapton. Styles include, Rock, Pop, Metal, Jazz, Rockabilly, Country, Spanish, Beginning Classical and ETC!

About Emma
I am a piano teacher, classically trained. I started my music education at the age of 7, at the Odessa College of Music in Ukraine. At age 16 I was accepted to the highly prestigious Odessa University of Music, where later I received my BA degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance, Summa Cum Laude. I then decided to further my education and take a 2 year Piano Performance course at the Odessa Conservatory. For over 30 years thereafter, I am teaching students of all ages. I look to develop problem solving, multitasking and other intangible life skills for my younger students through the power of music. For my adult students, I look to reduce stress and keep their brains working like new. Regardless of age, I work very hard to improve all of my student's memory, brain function, coordination and most importantly teach them how to simply have
fun!
I believe that all students can thrive in a learning environment that is stimulating, comforting and appropriate to their abilities.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are designed based on famous methods of teaching to meet the individual needs and desires of each student.
I am always very patient and will take it as slow as each of my students needs to make sure that he or she understands everything of what is being presented.
I am growing up with the students, building a proper relationship with them and helping them develop life skills through music. I hope for all my students that they will indeed develop skills and attributes through the music experience they have with me.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright Piano, Baby Grand Kawaii for Recitals

As a lifelong musician, I learned how to play mostly by ear. When I wanted to get serious about my music career, I went to college to study music and suddenly understood the importance of music theory. It was like someone handed me the keys to unlocking the mysteries of music! I can help you learn theory on any instrument or for voice, and learn the basics of music all the way up to complicated jazz substitutions. I teach every style and level, and I love music theory. Once you know the rules (and how to break them!) it makes music a lot more fun. Book a session now or send me a message and let's get started! We can work on theory and incorporating it into songwriting, singing, guitar, drums, piano, improvisation, anything you want!

About Luke
*** Travel Equipment ***
I will bring my own instruments and an amplifier. Students are expected to provide their own instrument, amplifier (for electric), a music stand, and a place where we can study without distractions and interruptions.

*** Specialties ***
Rock, Blues, Acoustic, Jazz, Theory, and Improvisation. Also experienced in piano, bass, drums, singing, and band instruction.

I'm primarily a rock and blues player but Luke has been able to stretch my playing out side of my rock/blues box and introduce some very cool techniques and ideas to add real interest and flavor to my playing. Luke is the best guitar instructor I've ever had. He caters to my learning style very well, which is to learn just the stuff that "works" in a real life setting. His insight has made my sound 10x better and has given me a great framework for improvement (Even my band mates have noticed a difference with my playing). He also has a keen sense of where my own guitar playing issues stem from and knows what needs to be done to address them. For example, he could tell that I was gripping the strings too hard with my fingers and it would make the sound harsh.

I highly recommend Luke if you are looking to improve your sound

My goal is to help you LOVE music. Technique and theory are fun, but they don't help if there is no passion. I am interested in helping you learn what YOU want to learn, and of course I will make recommendations and exercises that will help you progress. Music should be fun, and exciting, and I can help get you there.

About Andy
I have been teaching since 1994. I have a bachelors in bass performance and masters in music composition from CSULB. I am at home teaching theory and technique, but I also use teaching tools like: intuition, creativity, improvisation and song writing. I am comfortable teaching Bach or the Beatles and Mozart or Metallica. In addition to private students I have years of classroom teaching experience at Cypress College and Orange County High School of the Arts.

I have a studio at home, and a fun garden in the yard for parents and siblings to play in during a lesson.

Music theory is the foundation of music. It includes music notations, chord progressions, song form, melodic patterns, key signatures, transposition, recognizing intervals, scale formulas.

About Amber
I am an experienced, enthusiastic music instructor, who started playing piano around 8 years of age and participated in many musical activities. I received my Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Massachusetts, majoring in Music Education (voice and piano). I have appeared around the world as a soloist singing jazz and pop, including the Blue Note, NYC, and appeared as a guest soloist at the 2000 Southern California Summer Special Olympics. I also participated in ensemble groups such as the Masterworks Chorale in NYC, and the Verdi Opera Chorus of Southern California; and currently I volunteer at the Senior Center leading/accompanying the Sing-Alongs.

Inspired by my love of music, I have been teaching piano and voice for over 25 years from NY to LA and now Orange County. In conjunction with my teaching skills, I have
excellent communication skills, patience and enthusiasm, and work well with children and all ages. I feel that music is an important part of education, and it aids in the development of cognitive and motor skills. And most of all, it is fun and rewarding, and a skill to last a lifetime!

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Amber and working with her today. I was immediately put at ease - Amber made me feel welcome, accepted and was incredibly helpful to me today, as I am auditioning on Sunday to sing as a soloist at my church! I have great exercises to strengthen my diaphragm, and she gave really good instruction regarding how to get the correct sound for each voice range. I am looking forward to meeting with her again, and continuing my studies under Amber.

Amber met me at her door with a smile on her face although I was much too early due to my over active excitement at arriving for my first lesson. Her first words to me were, "I'm so proud of you." That was a complement connected to my age of 83. I could have hugged her. Our lesson consisted of warming up my vocal cords after a long period of not singing. It was noted because of my hearing loss, that I was having trouble pitch wise and this would be something for me to work on besides my breathing. Amber's lesson was exactly what I needed and I can't wait for my next lesson.

Music Theory is the backbone of music, the building blocks that help us to understand how musical notes and rhythms work together. Lessons in Music Theory can help you to better understand every musical instrument, and will provide an internal sense of order and structure for the sounds that we hear. Learn to make sense of every line, dot, dash, and squiggle on a piece of sheet music, as well as the elements of harmony, melody, rhythm, dynamics, articulation, and phrasing.

About Eulis
--------------- I also teach Online via Skype or FaceTime! --------------------
Hello! Thanks for visiting my Takelessons profile. Let me start off by telling you a bit about myself:
I have been performing for over 20 years as a musician, acting since I was a small boy, and working consistently with public speaking, accent reduction and other presentational skills throughout my career. I started my musical education as a woodwind player and settled in to the wonderful world of singing over time. Music has opened me up to so many incredible opportunities from touring the world to performing in marvelous concert halls and working with some of today's most respected artists, as well as giving me the opportunity to expand my performance skills through acting in various plays, musicals, television, and film.

Performing has absolutely b
een my salvation! Throughout my life it has been a best friend and constant source of joy, and I share this gift with others so that it might help them to find the same joy. After more than 10 years of teaching, I have so many new experiences to draw from and share with my students. I've spent the last 9 years performing with Disney in California and abroad in their Tokyo Disney cast, and I must say that those experiences, vast and varied as they are, have given the word "performance" a new depth. I'm always excited to dive into every lesson with fresh ideas that will mesh well with many tried and tested teaching techniques.

Originally from Los Angeles, I now reside in Orange County and I'm especially proud to have expanded my studio to serving clients all over the world with online lessons via Skype and FaceTime! I get such joy from sharing my experiences with a diverse group of people from many walks of life.
If you're interested in learning more about my lesson style, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to talk with you about a plan to help you reach your goals!

For Students of Voice: Teaching Style

Over the past several years I have focused much of my personal growth on developing my ears' ability to pick out and pinpoint vocal “placement”, resonance, subtleties of timbre, changes in pitch, breath support, air speed and flow, pronunciation and diction, and in general, the way in which all of these work together to create style. From these assessments, I work with the student’s particular needs to address each area individually and based on the learning style of each person.
To illustrate to the student their method as I see and hear it, as well as ways in which they might make changes to facilitate the ease of singing --be they changes of tessitura (range), length of phrase, tone color, the release of unnecessary tension etc.-- I make use of vocalise (vocal exercises), simile and metaphor, examples from recorded performances, demonstration, self assessment, and techniques to “trick” the voice into acting in a different way, in addition to videos, diagrams, and texts on anatomy and physiology. I feel that all of these tools provide a unique and personalized learning experience for each student.

Her students have gone on to win scholarships and place in honor orchestras. Currently, her students hold the top spots in nTyme's (North Torrance Youth Musicians Ensemble) Chamber Orchestra.

Locally, Grace has performed with the Dana Point Symphony, Symphony Irvine, as well as other groups around Southern California. Previously, she was a long time member of the Cheshire Symphony.

Whether you choose to take lessons online, in my home studio, or in your home, I strive to make each lesson engaging, informative, and fun! Students are expected to practice in-between lessons and come to lessons prepared with their instrument and music. I also encourage students to bring any music that they're interested in learni
ng to their lessons.

In-studio lessons take place in my home studio in Stanton, CA. Availability is limited, so please use the Ask-A-Question feature if a time you'd like isn't currently available.

**In-home Lessons**
Currently, I'm traveling to the Southbay area on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. If you reside within that area and the time you'd like isn't in my availability, please let me know, as I may be able to make it work (depending on location). My background in music theory makes me capable of tutoring students in a wide range of music theory subjects. Through my extensive studies, I have learned about music theory and its history dating back to the Renaissance era (c. 1400s). My Music Theory Minor from Northwestern University has given me the opportunity to study music theory in many different contexts beginning with simple Roman numeral chord analysis and delving as deep as composing small four-voice fugues. A student who studies theory with me can expect to become an expert at music analysis, beginning with species counterpoint and continuing from there based on the student's subject interests. I am able to personalize the learning materials of each of my students by using different musical examples that I have studied over the fourteen theory courses I have taken so far. I took the AP Music Theory class in high school and received a 5 on the exam and am also able to help tutor students who wish to pass the test.

About Rachel
I provide private instruction for beginner to advanced trombone, bass trombone, and music theory students. My goal is to create a comfortable atmosphere in which students can feel free to express themselves through the music they play. I keep students mentally engaged by asking them questions that are intended to direct them toward creating a clear, personal interpretation of their music. This gives the student a sense of artistic authority and ownership over their playing and creates more enjoyment in daily practicing and playing. I advocate for students listening to as much music as they can, whether it is a live concert or a recording, which I view as an essential key to swift musical development.

Rachel is a fantastic teacher and tutor. Her expansive knowledge of music theory and ear training contributes to her vast musical ability. Not only is she a great performer, but she is able to break down the music and explain it in a variety of ways in order to effectively teach students at any level. Most importantly, Rachel is an advocate for students expressing their own musical voice. She will not tell a student exactly how to play a given piece, but rather she will teach them the necessary tools for the student to play well, and allow them to explore their own musical interpretation from there.

Outside of music, Rachel is a genuine and kind-hearted person. She is understanding and empathetic, and this carries over into her teaching as well. That being said, Rachel holds herself and her students to high standards. Students will hear improvement in their tone, technique, and musicality as they work with Rachel. I give her my highest recommendation for all subjects.
