Students can start with me as a beginner or as an advanced student looking to learn new practice skills, new technique, skills, and bow strokes. Students work on scales, exercises for tone and coordination, vibrato, solos, sight reading, rhythm, audition music, and orchestral music. They get 2-6 opportunities to perform per year. I can teach a variety of music styles such as jazz, classical, romantic period music, 20th Century music, contemporary music, bluegrass, Celtic, Irish Fiddle, Scottish Fiddle, movie music, and popular music. I recommend many youth orchestras in the area that I encourage my students to join. Some of my students go to Italy in the summer with their orchestra. I can help you work on audition music for All Southern Youth Orchestra and All State Youth Orchestras and other Youth Orchestras. I go at the student's pace and also start out many beginners that have reached Suzuki Book 10 level.

Experienced teacher of 30 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages. I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of classical skills. I specialize in classical music and provide multiple playing opportunities for my students throughout the year.

About Angela
EDUCATION

My musical education began while sitting on my mother's lap as she taught piano lessons. I began studying cello with a member of the Kansas City Philharmonic at age 9, and at age ten, I followed in my mother's footsteps to play the flute. I played all three instruments, (piano, cello and flute) until high school when it was became clear to me that I wanted to be an orchestra teacher. With this dream in mind, I began playing the violin as well.
I graduated from Drake University with a Bachelor's in Music Education in 1989 and again in 1999 with a Master's degree.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE

As a youngster, I was the youngest member of the Kansas City Youth Symphony and the Kansas City Cello Choir performing with these two groups for eight years. I was chosen from applicants nation wide, to perform in Carnegie Hall and trav
el Europe with "America's Youth in Concert" and I was a three time All-Stater.

While attending Drake University, I played in the Drake University Orchestra and the Des Moines Symphony, and I was the winner of the Young Artist Competition awarding me the honor as featured soloist with the Drake Symphony Orchestra.
In 1993 I began playing with the Encore String Trio. This trio plays on a regular basis for weddings and receptions.
I currently play cello in the Encore String Trio, and viola in the Long Beach Community Orchestra.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience includes nearly 30 years of private teaching. I've had the pleasure of teaching all areas of music; elementary general music, band, choir and orchestra. During my 20 years of teaching orchestra in the public schools, I implemented many innovative opportunities for my students such as children's concert which drew more than 700 people in attendance, strolling strings, cello choir and a viola choir, all of which proved to be very motivational for the students. My goal of teaching is to make music fun for all.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe music should be fun. I provide you with several playing opportunities throughout the year, ranging from solo to group playing. I provide large group playing opportunities at Christmas and at the recitals. Every group playing opportunity is accompanied with food and games for all. This studio is FUN!

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you are studying for recitals, competitions, a music career or just for fun, you can expect equal attention to technique and musicianship in your lessons.
Lessons will be tailored to each students needs which may include flash cards, supplemental materials, ear training, sight reading, technical studies, scales, and solo work.
You are never to old to learn to play an instrument. Over half of my students are adult beginners. Because of this, I provide group playing opportunities and I organize a solo ensemble contest for my students. This gives opportunities to the adult beginners that they missed out on as a child. You will have a lesson by yourself, monthly mini recitals in my studio, and you will have the opportunity to play orchestra music as a group all right here in my studio. You are guaranteed to learn how to play your instrument, have fun and gain great friendships here in this studio. I'm looking forward to introducing you to our studio family.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The teachers studio is in a large room with multiple windows for natural light. The room includes instruments and stands in the middle of the room.

*** Specialties ***
I use the Suzuki method books. I am a classical player and I teach classical music.

Frequent student recitals, music theory, and certifications.

About Naomi
In 2004, I received my master of music degree in piano performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2006, I entered the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of California, Santa Barbara, with full scholarship in piano performance and worked in the music department as a collaborative piano teaching assistant for four years. I taught both undergraduate and graduate students.
During my sixteen years of teaching, I have trained students of a variety of ages
and ethnic backgrounds in both public and private institutions. As a teacher, I strive to help my students develop a mindful and musical ear by stressing a genuine appreciation for music beyond the mechanics of piano instruction. For advanced students, I challenge them with an increasingly more technical and demanding repertoire. For the
past several years, I sought and created opportunities for my students to perform in public and build their confidence, such as music competitions and local concerts.

Hello! My name is Taylor and I'm so thrilled that you're interested in the violin! The violin is the most popular of the classical stringed instruments, therefore it is seen and heard in multiple different areas, such as orchestras, movies, video games, and even music you hear on the radio. Although it is very competitive in the world of violin, it is still an instrument that anyone can enjoy, no matter what you decide to do with it. In our lessons, I will make sure that your abilities and interest in the violin are nurtured and increased through our incorporation of technical, musical, and theoretical aspects. We will build your foundations and help you achieve whatever it is you want to do, whether it be getting into an outside orchestra or just improving your abilities. As we build your technique, we will also learn music that will further challenge your new abilities, but that is also something you want to learn. Whether it be classical, contemporary, or something from the radio, ...

I am currently enrolled at CSULB as a junior and I am double majoring in viola performance and music education. I have been playing violin for nine years, and I have been playing viola for four years, both with private instruction. Along with violin and viola, I also play cello, French horn, marching percussion, mallet percussion, piano, and guitar. Along with enrolling in and passing seven AP classes in high school, I was part of the marching band and winter drumline along with an outside orchestra that allowed for me to perform solos across the US and Europe. I have performed music at Disneyland, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Segerstrom, the 2012 Olympic Games in London, multiple churches and cas
tles in England, France and Germany, such as the Bristol Cathedral, Mont St. Michel, the Chambord Castle, and St Nikolai Church. Music is my passion and gives me an outlet for expression no matter how I'm feeling. Aside from music, school is very important to me, and I am proud to say that my GPA is a 3.93. I also enjoy video games such as Kingdom Hearts and Overwatch, I love learning new languages and studying science, and I love taking care of my three rabbits!

Jennifer is a bundle of smiling energy, always excited to teach my kids something new and worthwhile. She makes the lessons fun, never boring. We started off with 30 minute lessons but increased to 45 minutes ‘cause my kids always want her to stay longer!

I cannot say enough about my violin teacher, Jennifer. What started out as just a refresher course turned into so much more. I hadn't played the violin since high school, and now, many years later, I have been able to dig into the part of me that really loves music, and really enjoys playing. Thank you, Jennifer, for helping me see the potential I did not know was inside me. Your patience and positive coaching are the reasons I am playing violin again!
