I grew up with an immense appreciation for the self-expression and creativity that result from all forms of art and music, to me, felt like my ideal way to express myself. Music inspires me and I always knew I wanted to help others connect with their inner musical ability as well.

Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Jen T. was 13 years old when she picked up her first guitar, rescuing her mom’s dusty old acoustic from the family’s attic. Quickly developing a love for the instrument, Jen headed west to sharpen her craft at LA’s esteemed Musicians Institute, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in music performance. While studying at MI, Jen formed the folk-pop duo Jen & Abby with vocalist Abby Miller. With their quirky style and catchy tunes, the band soon gained a devoted following through gigs at many renowned LA venues, including The Key Club, House of Blues, and Hotel Café. Following the release of their 2008 debut album Cannot Rearrange, the band’s music was featured in multiple films and television commercials. Jen has been sought out by many other artists seeking her particular blend of expertise and p

Performance skills are arguably as important as music prowess. The student needs to learn how to find the balance between confidence and vulnerability on stage. Since I had horrific stage fright myself, I very successfully guide students through the nerves of inexperience to the joy of confidence (which rarely comes from preparation alone!)
The Signal published an article on Oct.26, 2018: "Local musician Liza Donihue Signs Development Deal". Liza started studying with me through Takelessons in 2016. Just a couple of seasons ago one of my amazing students, Juliana Chahayed made top 40 on American Idol! 2 of my students recently made it through two rounds of The Voice. 12 of my students sang on the Grammy Award nominated "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" by M83. My students have also gotten into top music programs at Berklee College of Music, NYU, USC, Brandeis and Cal State University Northridge; won 1st prize in the high school talent show and money prizes in community singing contests. My singers have sung the Star Spangle Banner at Staples Center for a Clipper's game and produced successful showcases in the LA area. My story starts a while back: As a singer/songwriter
my experiences singing live from Bud Friedman's Improv to the Disneyland Hotel and in studios all across Los Angeles eventually took me to Europe where I landed in Brussels and recorded an album for Sony Records/Belgium which produced three radio hits in the 90's. I also recorded and/or wrote jingles for Coca Cola, Fanta, Schwepes, Fisher Price and more! Fluent in French, when I moved back to the states I taught at Lycee International de Los Angeles for 12 years where I developed a music program for their 4 campuses, teaching K through 12, including commendations from everyone from French President Sarkozy to Los Angeles Councilman Tom LeBonge. I've recorded 6 children's CD's and recently directed and arranged background vocals for renown French singer and actress Charlotte Gainsbourg. In my private practice I have prepared and developed singers for live performance, personal development and for the rigors of the auditioning process. And we always have fun!!

Tony is spectacular! She empowers me each time we work together!
March 9, 2018
Toni has been one of the most important people in my life. She taught me not only how to sing, but also how to perform and be a real musician. She makes the lessons incredibly fun and helpful. I wouldn't be the musician I am today without her.
August 19, 2017
I've had a few singing teachers before and let me just say it was always mediocre. It was all fundamentals and straight to techniques. With toni it was so much fun and very simple. She makes sure that I don't feel like I'm being tested or points out my flaws but rather my strength which makes me feel even more motivated to sing. She's an amazing instructor I recommend her to anyone who wants to have fun learning rather than feeling like they're in a class. She's passionate, kind and she is an amazing teacher. Take her

About Matthew J
I currently work as a freelance music producer as well as a guitar/bass teacher and as a music software teacher. I have been playing guitar for 18 years and teaching guitar and bass for 9 years. I have worked as a private and group guitar instructor at several music education establishments in the Chicago, Los Angeles and in Eugene, Oregon as well. I have also worked as a band coach for youth groups, where I taught them cover songs, helped them write their own songs and prepared them for live performances. I studied at Columbia College Chicago majoring in Classical Guitar, Latin Music and Music Theory. I started taking private guitar lessons as a teenager for several years and played in my high school jazz band along with original rock bands. While in high school, I was able to study with popular Chicago rock virtuoso guitarist Kev
in M. Buck, where I first learned music theory and was inspired to be more studious with the guitar.
I have performed in rock/modern bands for 12 years as an electric guitarist and also for 4 years as a solo acoustic guitarist mixing Bossa Nova, Classical Guitar and original compositions into my performance repertoire.

For instrument lessons- I'm a patient teacher that's passionate about guitar and helping students reach their musical goals whether they are casual players or serious musicians. For beginners, I use Hal Leonard instructional guitar books along with paper handouts and sheet music. I believe it's important for everyone to learn the fundamentals of music to create a strong base of skills in order to continue playing and learning music throughout one's life. For more experienced players, I like to teach various modern rock/pop songs, classical guitar songs, picking patterns, finger picking patters, improvisation, scales and music theory. I teach nylon string acoustic, steel string acoustic guitar and electric guitar and bass I believe the most basic goal for a guitar student is to be able to play a song in it's entirety, whether it's by themselves or with other musicians/music students. I believe that some of the most important music skills are learned while actually playing with other musicians. It is crucial when learning an instrument to be able to play in 'real time'; playing music with a steady sense of rhythm.
*** Specialties *** I teach Classical Guitar, Brazilian Jazz, bass guitar, rock, pop, blues, funk and folk guitar using method books, sheet music and guitar tablature.

"I was Lilia's mentor at California Institute of the Arts for three years. She is a hard worker, very determined and disciplined and a very promising, uniq
ue artist. Although she is primarily a guitarist she is also a highly trained and accomplished gymnast and acrobat. I have no doubt that Lilia makes an exciting, flexible and compassionate teacher."
"Barbara is very musical, very talented and very attuned to my needs. She is not only a singing teacher or a pianist, she is all and more. Most important
ly, she is a mentor. I highly recommend Barbara."

"Quite Simply The Best.
With all of the music teachers in LA and the world, it is difficult to choose the best. With Fawn, I believe 100% that I have foun
d the best. She is well educated, well rounded and versed in all the musical styles, up on the latest musical trends, yet knows the composers, songwriters and vocalists of yesteryears. She is passionate, fun, compassionate, patient, loving, kind and has a college degree from the 2 top music schools in the world. She has a thorough understanding of music theory, performance, voice, piano and the many ins and outs of the music industry. She is able to teach her students the theory behind the songs they are learning to play, sing, write and record. She is great at sharing the musical journey with her students, guiding them with honesty, tender care and knowledge. My daughter has grown leaps and bounds with Fawn and absolutely loves her. Sheâs helped change her voice into her authentic voice, taught her how to get over stage fright, how to turn her poems into song lyrics and how to produce her own vocals in the recording studio. She is quite simply, the best."
"Amanda is very attentive and thorough."
"My daughter Ashley has studied with Stacey for over 2 years. She is a wonderful teacher. She is very patient and makes lessons fun but productive. She wan
ts the very best for her students and works very hard to make sure that they excel in their chosen field of music. Stacey always made sure that Ashley was prepared for upcoming competitions, college auditions and even helped her find scholarship opportunities.Stacey has also worked with numerous other students that Ashley attended school with and they absolutely love her as well. I would highly recommend Stacey to anyone in need of a good music instructor."
"Simply amazing. Best decision I've made in a long time."
"I was 16 years old when I first started with Coren, She has helped me to get an amazing sound out of my voice! I sang every thing in my Nostrils! and my A
dam's apple up in my Brain! I started out singing with my church choir, then my church band. My music director said I Should Take some lessons. He gave me Corens number and I set up a lesson for the following Thursday.
I got to the lesson and I was shaking. I've always been an Actor and I've always had this mental block about my voice. But After talking to her, Within the first 5 minutes she had already had me laughing and relaxing in my chair. She not only showed me how to use my vocals, she explained (In Detail) why and what was making my voice tighten up in the first place. She understood everything that my vocal cords were doing.
I would certainly say that Coren goes the extra mile when it comes to training the voice. And she has one of the biggest hearts on this planet! There were many lessons I had with her where I would Just be in tears because I had a mental block about my voice. But Coren would not let me stay there. She Believed in me and she got me out of my mental patterns.
I owe a lot to this women and I couldn't be more Grateful that I have the opportunity to study under her!"
