About Ryan
I have been playing the piano for 7 years, but have been involved in the musical institution for much longer than that. I am currently pursuing my bachelors in classical piano performance from California State University of Dominguez Hills, with not much longer to go. I have also been shaping minds young and old in piano technique and music theory for the last three years. And, I believe I am an ideal teacher for anyone just starting out, to those who are trying to continue from where they left off.

*** Lesson Details ***
My first and foremost goal is to inspire a student to want to learn and thrive in their instrument. If I can do this, my job along with theirs, becomes that much easier. I try and do this by heavily incorporating the music that they identify the most with, while strengthening their technique with a classical foundati
on. And, introduce a well rounded set of incentives for each of their accomplishments.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide sheet music and books, I expect the student to provide the instrument they would like to take lessons on.

Music theory is extremely important for instrumentalists, composers, and singers. In our lessons you will be able to get help with papers, research, homework, test preparation, composition, or we can learn from scratch in my studio. I teach with patience and fun because I feel that this is the key to achieving goals and inspiring a good habit of practice. No experience is necessary, that is what I'm here for!

About Jessie
Thank you for your interest in lessons! I hope to help you achieve your goals and improve your skills, whether you're looking for music lessons, help in math, or need someone to proofread your essay before you turn it in. Every student is a unique person who deserves a lesson customized to their individual needs. Each of my students prospers in an atmosphere of patience and encouragement. While the lessons are fun and enjoyable, the serious student will be supported in the development of skills leading to a rewarding career, and the more casual students will grow in an appreciation of knowledge that will always enrich their lives.

I have been tutoring and teaching private lessons for over five years, and currently have over 40 active students. I received my bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on vocal performance at the Unive
rsity of Redlands in 2011, and my Associate of Arts degree in 2008 from College of the Desert. I teach online, locally, and at my studio, and cover a variety of subjects such as voice, music, theater, piano, math, english, music theory, just to name a few.

For academic tutoring (i.e. math, theory, vocabulary) I work on helping the student understand their homework and help prepare them for tests. I can also provide worksheets if necessary and am prepared to demonstrate problem areas in different ways if needed, because everyone learns differently. For voice, piano, music, and acting lessons I teach the student based on what their current level is. If you have no experience, that's okay! My lessons are uniquely designed to fit your needs no matter what level you may be.

As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women, Seussical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer in churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to stay active in the performance industry, because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it!

With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life they will achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having fun doing it!

Learn about rhythm, harmony, melody, and dynamics in great detail.

Music is often taught excessively by rote, and I feel it's very important to understand the logic behind everything just like you would in mathematics. So take that leap and explore the science of music.

About Jesse
*Disclaimer*
I'm currently not taking beginner students on guitar, bass, drums, piano, or ukulele. I highly recommend my studio partners Andrew and Melissa though. Please check out their profiles for the following topics:

My Background

I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Are
a.

Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. Since 2012 I've been running my own full time studio along.

Philosophy of Learning

Lessons are generally designed to work towards giving students the tools to accomplish their goals and become increasingly independent over time. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.

I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.

I also hold events for my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!)
Younger students have the "Young Musicians Showcase" every few months where individual students and band classes have a chance to perform and celebrate their accomplishments with friends and family.
Adult students occasionally have events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.

Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype.
(*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)

*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

My studio is equipped with:

*Multiple Music Stands

*P.A. System

*Vocal and instrument microphones

*Guitars, Basses, and a Banjo

*Two guitar amps and a bass amp

*Various percussion including a fully equipped acoustic drum set

*A Roland V-Drums electronic drum set

*An electric piano console

*A MicroKorg Synthesizer

*A Tuba, Trombone, Cornet, and Flute

*An extensive physical and virtual music library

*A recording system that students are not only welcome to use but encouraged to

*HD Webcam and condenser microphone for high fidelity online lessons via Skype

Music Fundamentals through college-level theory. Harmony, musicianship, sight-reading.

About Vanessa
A concertizing musician since age 9, I hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Music in instrumental performance from the California State University Los Angeles, where I was named the CSU system's youngest to receive a graduate degree. In 2005 I earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Arizona, where I was the Graduate Teaching Assistant. I have also been honored as the University of Arizona's youngest doctoral graduate, receiving my degree at age 19.

I have performed as a member and guest soloist with countless chamber ensembles, orchestras, and bands across the United States. Highlights of my international tours include concerts in Shanghai, Seoul, South Africa, Madrid and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In addition to playing for such notables as Oprah Winfrey, Maya Angelou, Tippi Hedren, Barbara Sinatra, and
Florence Henderson, I have played as an honorary guest at UCLA, the Colburn School, UC Santa Cruz, for the Japanese Ambassador and Embassy, and appeared as guest artist with the Anderson String Quartet, Barry Manilow, and most recently with Il Divo, as well as made several television appearances. My extensive performing experience means that no matter your skill level, as my student I will have you performing, sharing your music with others, and becoming an artist.

I have been the recipient of numerous awards for both my musical and academic performance, including the Valeria Finzi Memorial Harp Competition two years consecutively, the Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Fellowship, and have been named as a Medici Scholar and on the Who's Who Among American Women and National Dean's List. I am also active as a composer, arranger, and transcriber, and have taught for the past 16 years. Teaching has always been a special joy of mine, and I have experience teaching students of every age and skill level. I believe in an individualized approach for each student and love to inspire students with my own love of music and lifelong learning. I have worked as a teaching artist with the McCallum Theatre Institute (with elementary-age children) and an instructor for the Osher Institute (age 55+). With a solid background in Classical masterworks, my technical skill and artistic vision allows for interpretations of a variety of music spanning Celtic, Latin, pop, jazz, and rock genres. I teach piano, harp, music theory and musicianship at Mt. San Jacinto College, music history at College of the Desert and provide private instruction from my studio in Palm Springs.

*** Lesson Details ***
What do you want to learn? If you are passionate about music and interested in improving your skills I will mentor you to help you achieve your personal goals. I will personalize our curriculum depending on your experience level, needs, and desires. I believe in a well-rounded approach so we'll focus not only on leaning the notes, but the inflections and expressions of music, performance techniques, technical dexterity, music theory, and music history. In this way not only can you be a skilled performer, but an informed one as well, no matter what your age. My students are my highest priority- I love working with children, introducing them to music for the first time, as well as with the adult student who "always wanted to take lessons" but hasn't been able to yet. Furthering the talents of experienced musicians is also a pleasure. I will be honored to help you in your musical journey!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio: quarter grand piano, pedal harp, Celtic harp, electroacoustic harp. There is an adjacent seating area so parents are always welcome to sit in on lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Under special circumstances I am happy to travel to students who have their instrument and related equipment.

*** Specialties ***
I teach both Classical and popular styles and can specialize according to my students' needs/interests.

Traditional and modern studies of music theory will help to understand how songs are created through chord analysis and study of correlating scales and keys.

About Matthew J
I have been playing guitar for 14 years and teaching guitar and bass for 7 years. I have worked as a private and group guitar instructor at several music education establishments in the Chicago, Los Angeles and in Eugene, Oregon as well. I have also worked as a band coach for youth groups, where I taught them cover songs, helped them write their own songs and prepared them for live performances.
I studied at Columbia College Chicago majoring in Classical Guitar.
I started taking private guitar lessons as a teenager for several years and played in my high school jazz band along with original rock bands. While in high school, I was able to study with popular Chicago rock virtuoso guitarist Kevin M. Buck, where I first learned music theory and was inspired to be more studious with the guitar.

I have performed in rock/modern ban
ds for 12 years as an electric guitarist and also for 4 years as a solo acoustic guitarist mixing Bossa Nova, Classical Guitar and original compositions into my performance repertoire.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a patient teacher that's passionate about guitar and helping students reach their musical goals whether they are casual players or serious musicians. For beginners, I use Hal Leonard instructional guitar books along with paper handouts and sheet music. I believe it's important for everyone to learn the fundamentals of music to create a strong base of skills in order to continue playing and learning music throughout one's life. For more experienced players, I like to teach various modern rock/pop songs, classical guitar songs, picking patterns, finger picking patters, improvisation, scales and music theory. I teach nylon string acoustic, steel string acoustic guitar and electric guitar and bass
I believe the most basic goal for a guitar student is to be able to play a song in it's entirety, whether it's by themselves or with other musicians/music students. I believe that some of the most important music skills are learned while actually playing with other musicians. It is crucial when learning an instrument to be able to play in 'real time'; playing music with a steady sense of rhythm.

*** Specialties ***
I teach Classical Guitar, Brazilian Jazz, bass guitar, rock, pop, blues, funk and folk guitar using method books, sheet music and guitar tablature.

Depending on your level of knowledge of the subject, expect to learn from the very basics of music theory--such as reading the notes, chords, key signatures, time signatures, etc.--to some more advanced concepts such as counterpoint (chorale or fugal), chromatic harmony, modulations (harmonic or metric), etc.

About Oscar
I am a classical guitarist finishing my senior year at California State University San Bernardino with a degree in Guitar Performance under Stuart Green. I've been playing guitar since the end of middle school, and it wasn't until recently (persuaded by Stuart) that I considered further improving my performance skills in order to pass on my skills to other guitar students or enthusiasts. I am currently preparing for my senior recital, which is on March 7th at CSUSB and includes the Bach Suite in E Major BWV 1006a.
I'm a very relaxed person, but I get very excited when it comes to music, so if you share this love for music, then let's start playing!

ALSO, although I am getting my undergraduate degree in performance, I plan on continuing my music education by attending grad school under composition. I studied theory at Riverside Commun
ity College under Steven Schmidt and am now under Dr. Allen Menton at CSUSB. I am a music theory freak! And I analyze scores for fun. Therefore, I can teach that quite well for anyone interested.

They say that "reading is fundamental," and we all sure get a step up in the world from being literate, and learning to write and to read.... But before we learn to read, we need to know our ABC's, and music has ITs own set of basic ABC's! Once you know these, everything in music becomes a lot more understandable and easy to work with - as we begin forming the words and sentences of music, with our musical ABC's!

IT's not rocket science, and IT's not differential calculus.... IT really is as easy as ABC and 1, 2, 3! :-)

Plamen is a world-class teacher and player. In the 6 years I studied with him, I transformed from an intermediate classical player into a professional jazz musician. I now teach students of my own and play paid gigs. Playing piano at this level is the most gratifying thing in my life. I can relieve stress and express myself through jazz improvisation, I can entertain and inspire family and friends, and I can earn money doing something I love.

Plamen made this possible through high standards and incredible demonstrations. The crux of improvement is in repeating rhythms, melodies, and voicings that do not come easily. Plamen demanded this repetition because he cared about my development. When he demonstrated a tune, my living room became Carnegie Hall. His mastery meant that I could practice soloing in the higher register, for example, while he played a gorgeous foundation below.

Plamen has imbued my life with music and with pride.

My son is nine years old and this is his second year of lessons with Plamen. Plamen has a calm demeanor and is very patient. My son has made good progress in the last two years -- he has moved on from beginner books with pictures and is now playing real pieces. In recitals Plamen's students play a variety of pieces -- sometimes solos and sometimes duets with Plamen -- and he makes all the students sound and feel good. It is a treat to watch the elementary school students introduce themselves and their pieces and then play with skill.

Plaman zones in on what my goals are and presents the appropriate material and instruction to achieve them. He has the wonderful gift of striking just the right balance in how to encourage and criticize constructively. His knowledge in ethnic music, combined with his wonderful skills honed in both classical and jazz has helped me combine my twin loves of Irish music and jazz. Excellent teacher

As a T.A. to my university's music theory department in my undergrad and my current status as a high school music teacher, I have a very structured approach to tutoring/teaching music theory. I start from the most basic concepts to ensure a strong foundation. My specialties include counterpoint (modal/Renaissance and tonal/Baroque), late Baroque through late 20th century harmony and form, and serialism/other post-tonal compositional techniques. I also am well-versed in jazz theory and voice leading principles within the jazz idiom.

About Allison
I am a local high school band/orchestra director, composer/arranger, and performer.

As a teacher, I have taught elementary general music and currently teach at the high school level. I have taught privately since my sophomore year in undergrad. I enjoy working with musicians of all skill levels and ages. My philosophy of teaching is to instill a genuine love of music and learning into my students in order to inspire self-motivation and discipline. As someone who has suffered and recovered from physical injury due to playing in the past, I also highlight good technique in my students.

As a performer, I regularly perform as a classical clarinetist, a woodwind doubler in jazz and musical theater contexts, and in more improvisatory/experimental settings as well. I frequently perform my own compositions in both group and solo settings. I co
mpose and arrange classical, liturgical music, musical theater, pop music, and everything in-between.
