Guitar students start with five subjects.

1) Technique is concerned with the development of the physical mechanics involved in playing the instrument.

2) Scales are a part of basic music vocabulary and building blocks of the musical language.

3) Chords are also basic vocabulary of the musical language.

4) Note reading is not required for every student. It really depends on the students' goals. However, I strongly encourage everyone learn to read musical notation, (more than tablature). Literacy in reading music is analogous to literacy in reading in our English language. Can you imagine how much smaller our world would be if we couldn't read?

5) Songs utilize the skills and concepts of all the previously mentioned subjects and are the goal of studying music. The student chooses what songs they want to play, guided by my suggestions; Jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, R &B - "How deep is the ocean, how high is the sky?"

A beginning student will practice all

I couldn't ask for a better first lesson. Phillip has an easy going, fun approach that makes the lesson seem like a piece of cake. However, when your done, you realize just how much he has taught you. He told me to keep a note book. Now I see why..

Trevor is the real deal! He takes the time to get to know you and listen to what your needs may be or what you desire to accomplish in the lessons.
Then he breaks it down and takes the speed you are comfortable in learning and does not overwhelm you. I feel very comfortable with him and I am tons more advanced then I could even imagine. I’ve only done 3 sessions so far and can’t wait to see my progress with 5 more lessons to go. Great guy on top of it:). I highly recommend Trevor to anyone.

I've been working with Trevor for just over a year. His teaching goes beyond just dry technique and theory to answer the question "why am I doing this?" When you work with Trevor, there is purpose behind everything you do. He starts with your big picture goals and breaks them down into actionable steps that you can take feeling like it's going somewhere. This makes for way more efficient and exciting practice sessions. If you don't know exactly where you want to go with your playing, Trevor will help you find that as well.

Luis is a humble, patient and compassionate instructor. He displays a genuine love for teaching and is clearly committed to his students success. He is your cheerleader-of-sorts. Meaning, when you feel flustered with yourself he's the one who keeps a positive attitude and puts your mind back into that "I can do this" thinking pattern. I'm confident that anyone who enlists the help of this outstanding instructor will surely be happy with his work.

My 8 year old daughter has been studying piano for the past 2 months, he's flexible with timing and very patient with my child, she has learned more than I expected. I put her in his class because I heard that piano helps progress children's mind in mathimatics and other subjects and she has actually done better in her classes ever since she started.
Cristina
I took classical guitar first then piano because I got my nails done. Luis is a very patient teacher and advances his lessons according to your pace. He not only encourages you to continue the classes, but pushes you to practice at home atleast 30 minutes to work out the fingering in guitar and the hand placements for piano. I've been with him for 4 months and planning to continue, he has always kept his home clean and his work space organized. Luis offers in Spanish and English and has been very patient with my frustration when I don't get things right.

"Richard is so patient and knowledgeable. I am very happy with our lessons. Because of my background with classical guitar he wondered if the fact that he doesn't read music and I am renewing my mind back into it would not be a good teaching set-up. Not at all. I now have an electric guitar and the five years spent playing classical, now fifteen years ago, did not give me a good foundation for understanding music theory unfortunately. I have a genre I had already picked out fingerstyle electric and now with some thinking my way through the basics I did have I still need to learn just basic strumming etc. I understand what he is referring to in music so we still speak in the same key. Also and lastly my daughter has a severe seizure/dementia disorder that is very unpredictable and our caregiver's mom just passed away so there will be times when I just can't do a week/day. He has been very understanding. I am smiling from my soul because music is my healing path for difficult stuff I couldn't pay any doctor/therapist to even call me back for. Thank you so much for your assistance. Sincerely Teresa"

I particularly appreciate his focus on teaching from real songs. His attention to detail is great and I am always impressed that he is teaching us to listen and decode the chords, the strums and subtle little moments in the music. I highly recommend Mark - even for 50-something beginners like myself."
