Much of my methods are derived from my doctoral dissertation studies in the field of Sports Psychology. I apply my teaching methods to develop and increase control of muscular and mental functions, accuracy, precision, discipline, mental awareness and overall coordination in violin performance. I am eager to share my knowledge and experience in sports psychology and to emphasize the general psychological benefits and contribution to human enrichment.

My students earn numerous accolades, such as Concertmaster and title positions in the: Colburn Chamber and Los Angeles Youth Orchestras, Santa Monica High School Chamber Orchestra, Idyllwild Music Festival Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, Interlochen Music Festival, Honor Orchestra of America, and Santa Monica High School Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, Palisades High School Symphony; Grand Prize in the Fifth International Colibri Music Competition, Westside Committee of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Student Scholarships and ...

I started learning violin from Dr. Dimitry 1 month ago because, unlike other teachers, I found Dr. Dimitry very honest in specifying the subtleties and nuances, especially the snaggy ones which make the violin one of the most challenging instruments to learn. Although his classes were very expensive, I chose him as he was a straightforward and experienced violinist and I never compromise on the quality of teaching. Also, being a doctoral student myself, I know what it means to earn a Ph.D. and that too in music.

Now, it has been one month, and I enjoy his classes. His analogies and examples are an apt way of understanding the techniques of playing the violin. Though Dr. Dimitry is an advanced violinist, he is very patient with absolute beginners. To sum up, I would highly recommend him to people who are very serious and determined to learn and practice the violin.

A true professional and a great teacher! I have been taking violin lessons now for 6 months with Dr. Dimitri Olevsky, having switched to Dimitri after having had a mediocre experience with my previous teacher. Wow…what a difference. Dimitri ably blends his extensive knowledge, talent, and seriousness about his craft with a witty sense of humor. He is able to simplify the complexities of violin technique so that it is truly feels accessible. Highly recommended.
Alexander
Dr. Olevsky was immediately able to improve my playing with direct, practical advice. He is concerned with efficient practice and in making the maximum amount of progress in the time that one has. He is highly knowledgable about the audition process and the real day to day of being a professional performing violinist. I have been playing for 15+ years and find Dimitry's lessons very challenging and stimulating.

All of my beginner students begin with Essential Elements Book 1. After completion of the book, I move to Book 2 that focuses on scales and technique. Studies are supplemented with additional scale and technique books as we progress.

My intermediate and advanced students begin by playing a piece, etude, exercise, etc. that they have been focusing on. This allows me to assess their current level and how to progress.

I focus specifically on proper form for all ages and technique while still incorporating musicality. All students should be taught musicality and technique together not one or the other. Our lessons will also involve mental and physical practice technique.

My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played many different instruments in many different kinds of bands. It all one major thing in common, it was FUN! If you are not having fun while learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). I truly want my students to succeed and I will do everything in my power to help them accomplish that!

Extremely unprofessional to abruptly cancel scheduled/paid lessons without the courtesy of a message or any notice because this instructor was unhappy with a 12-year-old child's progress. Very surprised by and disappointed in the manner in which he handled this situation, certainly could have been handled with more respect and maturity.

Jerry is a wonderful instructor. I wasn’t sure how online lessons would go but they have been seamless and fun and my son is making progress with the bugle. I would highly recommend this format and this teacher. The convenience and quality of instruction are excellent. We are signing up for more lessons and may move on to another instrument once my son feels confident on the bugle.

Amber is simply the best. She has a knack for determining my level and knows how far to push me in practices and recommending homework. Her experience serves her well. She is inspiring, motivating and blunt which goes a long way because she is very directed at her constructive criticism and points that need to be improved.

Amber is an amazing teacher who is kind and appreciates the student. She teaches with great passion and makes the student feel the music. I could see my son progressing already and his confidence level has gone up. He shows great interest and practices more than before!

I'm a dedicated teacher and spend extra time outside of lessons thinking about how to best approach the following lesson. I find the style of teaching that works best for the student. I write plans after lessons and email or give them in person summarizing the lesson's key points to help make practicing at home easier and more organized in order to make lesson time as effective overall as possible.

I'm a rising Junior at The Juilliard School. I started playing when five and a half. I attended the Juilliard Pre-College program for two last years of high school before attending Juilliard on the college level. "I had been playing the violin for years but had gone on a long hiatus before I began taking lessons with Evan. I decided I wanted to take up the violin again, for pleasure, and he went above and beyond to ensure that I really got everything out of my lessons as possible, while making sure I had fun. He retrained me on a lot of fundamental work I'd lost and/or resisted as a child/teenager (I never thought I'd actually like playing etudes!) and he also drilled other beginner- to advanced-level skills into my playing. I will forever appreciate how he did this with a positive approach (non-confrontational, while professional), because he really improved my skills beyond what they had been even when I was playing professionally and competitively, years ago. Evan developed a great curriculum that was very well-personalized; he made me look forward to lessons (and he actually made me enjoy practicing!); and, most of all, he helped me appreciate the violin in a much more profound sense than ever before. Also, let me mention that he is talented and skilled beyond comprehension, so he's about as highly qualified as they come. I encourage you to take a few lessons with Evan and see how quickly you'll develop in his capable hands."
