I just recently started with Dee. She is doing a great job of helping me realistically assess my performance, and constructively set goals to improve the aspects that need work. It's been fun and very helpful.

Our 8 year old son had his first Guitar lesson with Dee this past weekend, and she was amazing. She wasted no time getting down to brass tacks with our son, showing him the various parts of the guitar, how to hold it and within minutes he knew two chords. She was able to keep our kiddo engaged, offered great praise and positive feedback/reinforcement and kept him on task for the entire 45 minute lesson. We could not be happier and cannot wait to see what he learns during his next lessons with her!

Private Cello Teacher

Beginner cello instruction based on custom curriculum. Usually after 2-3 hours of active instructions, most students are able to play simple melodies.

About Peter

Classically trained, energetic, experienced and creative music teacher with a proven ability to get the very best out of pupils; experienced in identifying the appropriate resources necessary for a subject matter and ensuring that they are used efficiently and effectively. Most of my students read and play simple music after 2-3 classes of active instruction.

I also specialize in special needs students.

All my musical knowledge and expertise was attained in Eastern Europe with an extensive music pedagogy training. I play and teach piano, upright bass, bass guitar and a range of other instruments. Over the years I taught basic piano, the beginner violin, viola, cello and a variety of school instruments such as recorder and xylophone. I also teach advanced music theory, harmony and basics of composition and orchestral arranging req

uired for music colleges. I especially find it rewarding working with beginners and the opportunity to show them the amazing world of listening, playing and making music.

The teaching begins with identifying student's musical needs, goals and tastes. Students are taught a stimulating, thorough, and graduated course of recital solos, theory, technical studies, and classic repertoire. For those wishing to pursue more of a classical approach to music, there are proven methods to accomplish that goal established by European master teachers and pedagogues. Also, I can teach the know-how of Jazz and Blues though gradual lessons that cover basic theory, scales and chords up to melody and harmony development.

*** Lesson Details ***
The learning process should be, for the most part, fun and based upon a strong relationship between the teacher and the student. Curriculum and lesson plans are based on student's abilities and aspirations with appropriate balance between theoretical and practical work. The lesson material is always carefully chosen, and when necessary, adapted to specific learning needs.

With a proper approach, everyone can learn to play music. Whether you want to pursue a music career, or just play for fun and enjoyment I can help you attain your goals. From basic piano and stringed instruments, to advanced theory, harmony, composition and improvisation to jazz, pop and rock.

Classes are not based on a single source or book. I provide other exercises in printed form for students to keep and take home.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Extensive e-library and ability to print any required material on the spot. Instant access to many on-line sheet music resources. Two high end digital keyboards, two violins, viola, cello, upright bass, bass guitar and amplifier, music stands, stereo equipment with a large CD collection of just any conceivable music style.. Assorted school instruments: recorder (soprano and tenor), xylophone. Various music charts and a large library of music resources and other books;

*** Travel Equipment ***
Full size and a school grade digital keyboards , bass guitar, amplifier, staff paper and other printed resources, violin, viola, spare parts, maintenance tools and equipment.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, Classical, Jazz, Ethnic and Modal music, Composition, Arranging, Harmony, Counterpoint, Advanced Music Theory

Peter has exceeded my expectations, I look forward for my lesson every week. I honestly can say He is the best teacher I’ve ever had. I am a 44 yo violin beginner student who has had 5 teachers in the last 6 years, I didn’t learn much with them, this been said, with Peter in just 3 months I feel I have learned more than my other teachers. Peter is so, so patient and extremely professional. I am very pleased to have found such a wonderful teacher.

Peter has been teaching bass to our son for several years and our son has become quite proficient. It's a bonus that Peter is unfailingly upbeat, professional, and a pleasure to have around. He truly loves music and conveys his appreciation to his students - so much so that now my husband is taking cello lessons from Peter, too.

Private Cello Teacher

I'm an experienced and dedicated cellist, having played with Orchestras and Chamber groups throughout my state. My lessons are focused on relaxation, and am as laid back or strict as the student needs. Whether you're a beginner or advanced, shooting to be a church player or a pro, I have taught students for that and am the teacher for you.

About Nicholas

Nicholas is a professional cellist that has studied since the age of 9. He has now been teaching the cello, viola, and violin for the past seven years for students of all ages, beginner to pre-college level.

Throughout Nicholas’s career, he has been an active member of Honors Orchestras, Youth Symphonies, Chamber ensembles, Opera Symphonies, and his university’s symphony. His music consists of mostly a classical nature with some contemporary and popular music ensembles.

Nicholas trained for three years in college under the renowned cellist Martha Gerschefski, whose accomplishments are too many to list. He also trained under Christopher Rex, the principal cellist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Nicholas now holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance at Georgia State University.

We love Mr. Heaton. My son is 13 and on the autism spectrum and so focus can be hard for him, he was really struggling in school based orchestra because they couldn't give him one on one attention. He also struggles with fine motor delays (which is why we chose a string instrument). We've been doing lessons with Nicholas for almost a year now. Nicholas always takes his time with my child and is extremely patient. My son has gained SO much confidence since we began taking these private lessons. They work on not just learning to play cello but learning how to really understand/read the music and making sure that the techniques he's learning (hand positions, ways of sitting and moving) are all exactly what he needs to progress successfully in his orchestra and going forward. My son enjoys his lessons and I feel like we always get our money's worth. I can't wait to see where he will be another year from now working so closely with such an amazing musician and teacher.

Nicholas has been a great guide to my revisiting the cello. It had been almost 30 years since my last lesson, and he has reminded and coached many skills I had forgotten, and has taught me new ways thinking and playing.

Private Cello Teacher

As a violist and string enthusiast, my appreciation and knowledge of the cello runs fairly deep. I had studied and taught myself how to play the cello with the guidance of a professional cellist some many years ago, but I've always been eager to teach the cello to any willing student with a deep appreciation. Students can expect a curriculum catered to their needs and desires, whether they be to on the road to a professional musician or just the hobbyist and a teacher who is dedicated to their educational growth and desires.

About Ashley

I am currently a junior at Ramapo College studying music education but I am no foreigner to teaching. I have been teaching for some years now with general ages ranging between 3 to 25, in the violin, viola and cello. I have also taught music theory from a beginner's standpoint to a college sophomore level in conjunction with teaching said instruments. I have a passion for teaching that I love to give my students the passion of learning as teaching is not only fun, but also one of the most rewarding experiences in life as is having the guidance and educational support of a good teacher. Students can expect my 110% effort and know they can depend on me for consistency, accuracy and personalized lesson plans based on the level and goals they want to achieve. I aim to foster a supportive learning environment for my students in their hom

es or practice space of their choice as the main root of discontinuity in studies is the lack of support and passion. Feel free to contact me at anytime should any questions arise and remember, music is about having fun, so let's have fun!

Ashley was very helpful to me. I was floundering. I am a brand new 'musician', still learning to read music. I would still be working with her, but I had to move suddenly. She was very encouraging and I hope to be able to continue lessons again with someone in my new location.

I believe that students should be given an opportunity to be shown how to practice. This is so that when the instructor is not there to guide, the student is able to know step-by-step of what they are supposed to do. Practice sessions should include scales, etudes, and solo repertoire. I will include individualized videos for weekly emails for each lesson with how to break down and practice the scale, section, or piece.

About Vivian

Vivian is violinist who has experienced teaching all ages. She is currently pursuing an Undergraduate Degree in Music Education(Instrumental) at Rowan University with the mindset of having a performance and education masters. She has recently awarded Teacher of the Month for July 2019 on Lessonface. Upcoming performances include works from Mozart, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky.

Past positions include Concertmaster of the Rowan Youth Orchestra. Occasionally plays with the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, judges All South Jersey Orchestra, and volunteers for Music at Bunker Hill, a Chamber Music Venue in Southern New Jersey. She has done masterclasses with Dimitris Chandrakis, Hal Grossman, and currently studies with Timothy Schwarz at Rowan University.

Private Cello Teacher

I am a second year cello performance major at the University of Georgia and have been playing the cello for over ten years. I have experience performing and practicing in a variety of ensembles and genres (i.e. orchestras, chamber ensembles, jazz, rock/jam bands, bluegrass, pop). I plan to incorporate music theory and ear training into lessons to help my students become more familiar with their instruments and repertoire. I want to encourage innovation and creativity in each of my students so that they can feel comfortable approaching any musical opportunity.

About Jordi

I am a third year cello performance major and jazz minor (bass guitar) at the University of Georgia. I have been playing classical cello for over eleven years and bass for two.
I am prepared to teach students of any age and give them the tools and adaptability to perform in a variety of ensembles, or simply play music on their own for the joy of playing! I want to encourage students to be innovative and creative while suppling them with basic music theory and ear training that they can implement into their practice and observe in their repertoire.

Good habits and an excellent attitude make great cellists. It doesn't hurt to love music too. I love music and I love to share my passion with my students.

Having a teacher who is an experienced performer is an important quality in a teacher. I am a professional classical musician currently working as a freelance cellist in the Chicago area. I play with Chicago Philharmonic, the Northbrook Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Northwest Indiana Symphony, among others. Before coming to Chicago I played for 13 seasons with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

I have taught privately for over 10 years including 2 years in Paris. My teaching is a reflection of my teacher, Phillippe Muller. I studied with Msr. Muller while studying at the Paris Conservatory. Msr. Muller is currently a Professor of Cello at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

About Wei

Even though I have been teaching and performing on the cello for most of my life, it's not all there is to who I am. I am a chef (almost--12 weeks to go), a mom, a wife. I have a cute little Tibetan Terrier that loves visitors. My husband and I love hiking in beautiful places.

Studying with me will be fun but it will also be challenging. I believe that being able to make music with your own two hands is worth the effort.

"As an adult beginner, I found Don's approach of focusing on the fundamentals key to producing a strong sound and forming good habits when practicing cello
. I played violin for six years growing up but in that time never received such great instruction on technique of playing a stringed instrument as I did in a few months of cello lessons with Don. He is a very knowledgeable cellist and quickly recognizes adjustments in technique required for improvement. Additionally, he organizes recitals for his students, giving us a nice opportunity to perform. His knowledge, patience, and gentle manner make him a great instructor."

"I'm very grateful to have found a teacher as generous as Chris. Since reviewing is so important in our culture anymore, I always like to get a good sampli

Chris makes it easy, fun and relaxing to learn. It isn't hard to gather that Chris is a professional and experienced teacher. I am a very beginner, adult student, and I can appreciate how Chris can teach a spectrum of students at different skill and experience levels. Thanks to Chris for making my hobby to learn an instrument such a dream!"

"Finding an individual with the credentials or capacity to develop your technique isn't really the difficult part in searching for a teacher. As a twenty-s
omething in the early stages of developing my career, I place a much higher value in being inspired.

Despite having no prior experience with the cello and having little time to practice in between lessons, Ryan does a great job in simplifying the musical concepts and subtly drilling in the key points-- so much so that I can actually hear the improvement with every session. Not only is he very patient and attentive, Ryan also shows an obvious enthusiasm towards his craft that is highly infectious.

The lessons themselves are thorough, but still engaging. Given my hectic lifestyle, I was initially uncertain about committing to a new skill and figured my interest in the cello would waver. I'm still no cello aficionado--however, this first set of lessons has surprisingly heightened that initial interest and convinced me to keep at it.

Bottom Line: If you're looking for a teacher or considering the instrument, I would definitely recommend giving Ryan a shot!"

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

By Jessica Dais

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
