I am an active professional classical/opera singer with six years of teaching experience. My students include a range of levels and ages who vary in musical aspirations and sing in many different styles, including opera, art song, jazz, blues, pop, and musical theater. My students have gone on to sing on Broadway, pursue music and theater degrees, compete and win competitions. Many of my students also study piano or guitar in order to increase musicianship and independence in study. Students are given every opportunity to become well-rounded, performing musicians when studying with me. I am a friendly, open-minded, enthusiastic musician who loves teaching others!

About Elise
I am a professional, classically trained soprano with a love for theater and the arts! In addition to being a performer, I also love teaching music lessons. My private vocal studio includes a range of students from young children to adults, who vary in musical aspirations and sing in many different styles, including opera, art song, jazz, blues, pop, and musical theater. My students have gone on to sing on Broadway, pursue music and theater degrees, compete and win competitions. I have extensive training and knowledge of proper vocal use, as well as a passion for teaching my students self expression through music. My students are given every opportunity to become well-rounded, performing musicians, and my goal is to give students the tools to become life long, passionate musicians themselves!

You can learn to sing almost any style of music, and OPERA is no exception. Once we find your real voice and teach it how to come out in full, resonant, well modulated tones. then you can use that vocal power to sing any style of music that you love and want to study. Operatic singing is more of a mindset than a "natural gifting". Granted that the operatic repertoire makes exciting demands on the voice, vocal/physical/emotional stamina, and acting ability, but those are all learned skills that other mere mortals have learned and mastered with a little help from coaches and mentors like me, who have learned them from others who have paid their dues in this wonderful profession, and been willing to pass them on to aspiring singers. All too often those hopefuls have been told that only a few "specially gifted ones" can ever attain to such heights, and thus ensues a lifetime of unfulfilled dreams. DARE TO DREAM! If you've ever even thought about it, you're "IT" ...tagged!, so let's do it!

About Vanessa
Become the masterful Singer that you really ARE! Learn to bring out the natural beauty and power of your Voice, and to match your own unique personality and vocal qualities to complementing repertoire in order to show your voice and talents in their best light. We'll develop the repertoire that fits YOU. You'll learn how the Voice works and where it really comes from, and probably be amazed at the almost immediate widening of your vocal range.

Trained by one of the Metropolitan Opera'€™s most beloved Voice Coaches, Vanessa brings to the world of music a wonderfully varied Performing and Teaching career ranging from Opera to Broadway. She holds a BA degree in Music Performance from the School of Fine and Applied Arts of Boston University, and is an award winning Poet. Vanessa has produced, hosted, sung, and broadcast over 2,500 te
levision programs, concertized and spoken in the US and abroad, recorded nine albums in various languages, co-authored an Early Childhood Education book which included training in the use of music for the young, authored three poetry books and accompanying cd's, and teaches Voice to her private and group students.

*** Lesson Details ***
The atmosphere is relaxed in our comfortable professional studio. We work hard, and enjoy the journey as we develop your voice and repertoire with a focus on whatever style of singing you choose. It won't be long until you will see that songs that were previously too high or too low are now comfortably within your grasp. And, you will be able to sing for longer periods of time without getting tired or injuring your voice. You might also want the experience of practicing stage presence, working with trax, learning how to relate to an audience, and learning microphone technique, all of which will add to the professionalism of your most excellent and enjoyable career.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music studio room w/ piano and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in finding the student's unique voice, and helping them to understand its natural operation in order to set it free to be used in any style they choose to sing. The Italian Bel Canto method describes the basic singing technique, and is the foundation from which a healthy and versatile voice can be developed. My upcoming book, "All God's Chillun' Got A Voice" How To Find It, and Release It As A Creative Tool”, discusses both the technical and esoteric sides of the singing voice, its operation and purposes.

What separates my approach from that of other instructors is my commitment to bridge masters level knowledge of classical vocal technique with contemporary vocal styles, including musical theater, jazz, pop, country, gospel and rock. Whether you're an advanced vocalist or just starting out, let me put my education, training and over 20 years of teaching experience to work for you!

About Eric
For over 20 years I've helped students of all ages to maximize their vocal potential. Embracing a variety of vocal styles, from classical to contemporary, my students have excelled in musical theater, aced college auditions, traveled as lead singers with rock bands, recorded music videos and reached the higher levels of American Idol auditions.

I hold both Bachelors and Masters degrees in vocal music and have directed vocal groups traveling internationally to more than 20 countries on four continents. I've personally produced more than 20 full-scale musical/theatrical productions with casts of over 200 and ticketed audiences of up to 10,000. while reflecting the unique needs and goals of each student. My passion is to enable those I work with, beginner to advanced, to maximize their vocal potential. I currently teach from my home studio in Rockford, Illinois.

Seriously such an incredible instructor. He understood where I was beginning from (the absolute minimum) and taught me accordingly. I still value everything I learned from him, and the techniques have come in handy in various areas of my life. As someone who officiates weddings, is an entrepreneur that predominately uses videos to share my business, as well as being a busy aunt of 4 incredible nieces and nephews and has to project my voice-I use gold nuggets of what Prof. Eric Walker taught me on a daily basis. I STRONGLY recommend him-even if it is for a short while! Note-I had him for one semester and grew so much.

For five semesters I studied voice with Eric Walker at Rock Valley Community College. He took the time to show me the basics of using your voice properly in singing. Mr. Walker was patient in teaching me how to breathe deeply which has helped me in my singing today. Also, he taught me how to have more forward resonance when singing. In addition, he prepared me well for my college auditions. I was able to walk into my auditions confidently and sing with clarity.

Our daughter has been taking voice lessons from Luke Otto the past 4 years. The growth in her voice and performance level has been amazing! She has performed in 3 Eau Claire Children’s Theater productions, 5 musicals at her high school and made it to the State Solo Emsemble the past 3 years. This year she received a perfect score at the state level. She also made it to the finals of ECCT’s Star Quest competition. Luke is so musically talented himself and shares his knowledge with his students. He is a great teacher who can motivate his students by example and with humor.
