Riley is very positive and has many strategies to explain how to place your sound to obtain a full voiced sound. She has been doing lessons online since the stay at home order has been in place. The lessons have still been very helpful in moving me forward and learning new techniques.
Riley is a skilled teacher and knows how to scaffold skills so that you are successful.

Riley is the most amazing teacher--I can't recommend her highly enough! I have been studying with her for a little less than a year--both in-person and more recently online--and I have already improved so much. Even better, I always look forward to my lessons!

Acting a Song
Let's work on perfecting the story. Especially in musical theatre it is important to portray your journey through the song. Many people can sing well but how you tell a story is going to be unique to everyone else, and that is what is going to make you stand out at auditions. Lets dig deep into your work!

Vocal Technique
I was originally trained classically, and as I've grown as an artisit I have also learned how to sing many other styles, such as musical theatre, pop, jazz, etc. I believe that everyone is capable of learning the technique for any style no matter if they consider themeselves a "legit soprano", or a "powerhouse belter". In our voice lessons we will work on the technique of whatever style you want to work on. Let's make some music!

I'm interested in getting to know each of my students and creating a lesson plan based on you --- because the best work is done when it doesn't feel like work! I'm happy to guide students through sight reading, note naming and basic vocal technique for beginners as well as fine tune technique, tone, and performance skills with advanced artists. In our first lesson, we will discuss and apply vocal techniques to strengthen your unique voice. Having worked in everything from opera to a cappella, I'm prepared to tailor my teaching to your individual goals. Don't know what goals to set? I can work with that too! Looking forward to meeting you!

About Rachel

I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.A. in vocal performance. During my time there I've studied numerous operatic roles such as Susanna from Le Nozze di Figaro. I've also had the opportunity to perform solos for large choral works like the Bach b minor Mass and Faure's Requiem. As

I've always had this mentality that everyone can sing and it is my goal as your potential teacher to get you to learn how to enjoy it! I like to teach from a classical standpoint and want to make sure you know what the theory is all about, how to breathe properly and how to align your body.

I'm currently a master's student in Voice at Mannes and have had two years of private teaching experience and another two as a teaching assistant for a collegiate voice class and choir. On the performance side, I've been a church musician for over 20 years, I've made solo debuts with the Oakland Civic Orchestra and Mill Valley Philharmonic, have performed and covered numerous operas and even won an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera.

No matter what singing level you're at currently, by the end of our lessons and your continued practice I hope you'll learn the techniques to truly sing out whether it be for pop, jazz, broadway, or opera. Let's work together!

About Danika

Award-winning, Filipino-American spinto soprano Danika Mae Fernandez has performed mainstage roles including Laetitia in Menotti’s Old Maid and the Thief and Countess Violante in Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera. "In my lesson with Jamie, we worked on using correct vowel placement to open up my sound. When the lesson was over, the sound changed dramatically. My voice was more open and clear, with a freer production. Jamie made me feel confident in my sound and my technique. I would recommend Jamie to anyone enthusiastic about studying voice!"

"I lovvvvve Tanisha. She has this upbeat and vibrant personality; she's super sweet and nice. When it comes to singing, she has you pick out your own song that you would like to sing. She doesn't bombard you with songs and training that won't enhance your voice. I've already noticed changes to my voice and I'm only on my 6th lesson. Plus, she's not a teacher that watches the clock, so if she feels you need an extra 10 mins for vocal training, then you will exceed your time limit with no problem. She's there to help you and if I had to recommend a vocal coach, then of course it would be Tanisha Hall :)"

8 Beautiful Opera Arias for Beginner Singers

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career. It’s absolutely crucial that you sing repertoire that is …
