I have been teaching cello since 1989. Cello students of all ages and levels are accepted at my studio. All levels of the cello repertoire from the beginning through the Major Concertos will be taught. Students will be placed in courses according to the level of their current repertoire. The sequence of repertoire in the Suzuki Cello School will be used to place students.
I am a highly organized, outcome-driven and motivated professional musician and educator with solid experience in the classroom. For the past 25 years, I have been employed with Amati music academy and seven years on the faculty of University of St Francis. I am very comfortable with all aspects of the current music syllabus, including teaching musical concepts (such as duration, pitch, dynamics, tone color, texture and structure) as well as performance, composition. I am fully qualified, with a Bachelor of Education in Music, Double Masters in music performance and education from University of Nottingham. I am proficient in classical, jazz and Celtic fiddle violin and possess solid skills in piano (grade 8-13) Royal conservatory system. Throughout my teaching career, I have been driven to help students achieve their very best. I str
ongly believe that music has the power to change lives – to enhance the social, cultural and spiritual lives of people, and serve as a profound medium of personal expression. Professional perform experience: The Chicago, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, Three tours with Moody Blues, YoYo Ma etc.... The most important thing I look for in a student is communication skills, as well as talent. I like to nurture students and help identify their individual strengths, which is a key factor in shaping a musical persona that will make its mark both on and offstage. I do not advocate a uniform technique for all students. Physical differences and learning styles are always taken into consideration. Potential is as important to me as early achievements and experience. My goal is to help students become self-sufficient, discriminating artists. I discuss practice techniques often and develop individualized scale routines. I encourage initiative and expressive musicality as well as precision. Above all, music needs to bring obvious joy to the student, regardless of the difficulties.”

I am an adult who has no experience with any type of instrument and was very nervous and intimidated at first. Then I met with Michael, and though there was a ton of information we had to go through, he really made me feel at ease. He has the knowledge, patience, and understanding I was really looking for in a teacher and I'm so happy I found him!

Susan was born in California to a musical and artistic family. Susan studied with Margaret Rowell in Berkeley, California. In 1960, Susan was the winner of The International String Congress Competition and traveled to San German, Puerto Rico to study with Theodore Salzman. After graduating from Washington State University, Susan taught music, art and K-12 in various subjects in California, Wyoming and Utah, where she was married and raised two cello playing daughters.
Susan attended workshops with Dr. Suzuki and taught at many summer workshops. She worked at Kamimoto String Instruments in San Jose, California for 10 years and taught string orchestra in Moab and South Jordan, Utah while maintaining a cello and folk guitar studio. Some of her past honors include: Teacher of the Year, Moab, Utah, 1994, Utah State Legislature –Distinguis
hed Service in Education Award, 1993 and Outstanding Middle School Teacher- Utah Rural Schools, 1990.

Taking cello lessons from Susan has been a wonderful experience for my child, and it has been lovely for me to associate with her. Susan has passion, warmth, and many years of experience. Initially, it can be a bit overwhelming (especially as a parent with little musical experience) to take in all that Susan will throw at you, but soon you will see the benefits of her broad range of knowledge and the holistic education she offers. She covers the many facets of playing cello, including rhythm, reading music, theory, group practices, careful attention to bow hold, tone production, performance, ensemble playing and listening. She is consistent and reliable. My child looks forward to Susan’s lessons each week and has commented, “Susan always finds something good, then gives me ideas on how to make it better.” She puts a lot of time, resources, and creativity into enriching activities that motivate kids to stay engaged and practice regularly. We highly recommend her!
I have been doing cello for close to 10 years now, and as of 3 years ago, I discovered that I love teaching! It's become a favorite way of mine to inspire other's to be the best musician they can be! The cello isn't a particularly easy instrument to learn, but I will say that it is SO worth it. It takes work, but what doesn't? I would encourage everyone to play an instrument! It just so happens that I can only help with a few of those. ;)
I am 16 years old and a member of the Missouri Philharmonic Orchestra, and the principle cellist in the Play and Sing His Praises Homeschool Orchestra, where I also get to have the pleasure of being able to teach children and adults an instrument, when they otherwise might not have had a chance.
I'm sister to 13 siblings both older and younger than me, so I have lots of practice with people of various ages and temperaments. I would like to go to Evangel University for a major in cello music, right after I graduate high school. I love teaching because my cello and piano are my passions. I love seeing it become others passion also, and helping place that zeal in them for their instrument.
I try to give a fair price for my relatively newly found love of teaching.
I've been playing my cello for 10 years, and piano for 11. The direct
or of the PSHP home school orchestra is my private cello lessons teacher, and the choir director is my private piano instructor. I couldn't enjoy my lessons more!
I hope I can help you become the musician that you want to be!
Our daughter enjoyed her first lesson and is looking forward to the next one. Leah was patient and very knowledgeable. Thanks so much!

I am a second year cello performance major at the University of Georgia and have been playing the cello for over ten years. I have experience performing and practicing in a variety of ensembles and genres (i.e. orchestras, chamber ensembles, jazz, rock/jam bands, bluegrass, pop). I plan to incorporate music theory and ear training into lessons to help my students become more familiar with their instruments and repertoire. I want to encourage innovation and creativity in each of my students so that they can feel comfortable approaching any musical opportunity.
I am a third year cello performance major and jazz minor (bass guitar) at the University of Georgia. I have been playing classical cello for over eleven years and bass for two. I am prepared to teach students of any age and give them the tools and adaptability to perform in a variety of ensembles, or simply play music on their own for the joy of playing! I want to encourage students to be innovative and creative while suppling them with basic music theory and ear training that they can implement into their practice and observe in their repertoire.
My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played many different instruments in many different kinds of bands. It all one major thing in common, it was FUN! If you are not having fun while learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). I truly want my students to succeed and I will do everything in my power to help them accomplish that!

Jerry is a wonderful instructor. I wasn’t sure how online lessons would go but they have been seamless and fun and my son is making progress with the bugle. I would highly recommend this format and this teacher. The convenience and quality of instruction are excellent. We are signing up for more lessons and may move on to another instrument once my son feels confident on the bugle.

I am a professional cellist and music administration leader in Minneapolis Minnesota. I work with the world renown St. Paul Chamber Orchestra as a marketing and development intern. I have been taught by Juilliard’s Timothy Eddy, Eastman’s Steve Doane, faculty from Bard, Curtis, DePaul, Meadowmount Academy and various other summer institutes. I’ve learned how to practice effectively and efficiently and I love the cello so I can share everything I have learned with you! I just graduated with a bachelor of music performance from the University of Minnesota with Tanya Remenikova who was taught by Rostropovich at the Moscow Conservatory. I have experience teaching ages 10 to 30 and have been teaching at Schmitt Music for 3 years. I plan to attend graduate school for cello but I’m taking a year off to travel and teach online.

very knowledgeable and can answer almost any questions you may have regarding the cello and music. He also works very hard to try and teach you the song you are most interested in learning which makes any session fun!
Most importantly, I am always learning something new and feel like I am always progressing with my skill on the cello.

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way.
How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
