I am a self-taught musician with 15 years of experience playing electric and acoustic guitar. My lessons begin by learning what inspires you as a musician, and working to take you where you want to go! Learning some of your favorite songs is often a great place to start. By learning a variety of music, you'll quickly begin to notice patterns & understand basic theory on what notes work together well. From there, you can apply that knowledge to improvisation, as well as songs you may want to write!

From those first few lessons, there's a million different ways we can explore the guitar together. With my lessons, I offer recording time in my home studio where you can learn how to write, record, produce, and mix fully arranged songs!

Reach out to say hi, and let me know what some of your immediate goals and questions are!

Specialties: Indie, Rock, Pop, Alternative, Psychedelic, Folk, Acoustic.
Open to students of all ages.

Mitch gave lessons to my son about 6 years ago (when Mitch still lived in St. Louis). He still picks up the guitar a few times each week to unwind, and often mentions things Mitch taught him while practicing.

I am an experienced music instructor who has been teaching for years, both privately, and working at multiple private studios. I grew up playing electric guitar, ranging from metal, to classic rock, to neo-classical. I am currently a performance major for guitar studying at Arizona State University under incredible instruction from amazing instructors. As a former music education major, I emphasize the importance of a versatile approach to teaching that suits each individually and promotes a greater opportunity for learning. I teach my students to understand and conceptualize music, rather than being able to repeat notes. Lessons will include theory, improvisation, focus on healthy practice and mental habits. I personally strive for all of my students to reach a potential that allows for them to be versatile and proactive musicians that can be comfortable in a variety of musical scenarios. I teach all ages, ranging from young children to seniors. All levels of experience, from ...

I do not teach guitar for readers or cover artists. If you want to learn how to find your own style and build on what is unique and valuable in what you play, I can help you.

I typically can't offer much to an already advanced player as they've already acquired and embedded habits I will train less experienced players to either avoid or incorporate from a creative rather than copy-cat methodology.

Students will be taught "Expressive Practicing", a technique emphasizing skills earned through inspired playing. This is a highly individualized method based on the students instinctive capabilities such as having an natural "ear". Fundamentals are taught as applied through a run-before-you-walk set of exercises and structured improvisation techniques.

About Richard

I can't wait to work with you! I am passionate about the subjects I teach, and find nothing can compare to seeing a student "get it", so they may too enjoy the passion that comes from learning and doing something they love. Everything I teach I've learned most completely by doing as a Profession

Richard is so patient and knowledgeable. I am very happy with our lessons. Because of my background with classical guitar he wondered if the fact that he doesn't read music and I am renewing my mind back into it would not be a good teaching set-up. Not at all. I now have an electric guitar and the five years spent playing classical, now fifteen years ago, did not give me a good foundation for understanding music theory unfortunately. I have a genre I had already picked out fingerstyle electric and now with some thinking my way through the basics I did have I still need to learn just basic strumming etc. I understand what he is referring to in music so we still speak in the same key. Also and lastly my daughter has a severe seizure/dementia disorder that is very unpredictable and our caregiver's mom just passed away so there will be times when I just can't do a week/day. He has been very understanding. I am smiling from my soul because music is my healing path for difficult stuff I couldn't pay any doctor/therapist to even call me back for. Thank you so much for your assistance. Sincerely Teresa

Guitar is my main instrument, I've spent thousands of hours playing and teaching. I can show you how to do pretty much anything you want to do or learn on guitar.

About Scott

Hi! I'm Scott. I usually perform using a one-man band setup I created. I modified guitar and made foot pedals to control a drum set, while singing. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer.

Wanted to share an update after multiple lessons - Scott is a virtuoso teacher - he has some many techniques and tricks for helping a person learn to sing - he's also able to start anyone signing right off the bat - not just learning scales or technique - it's so much more fun to learn while you are singing at the same time.
John
Scott is an incredible teacher - he brings so many years of experience and different techniques that I couldn't help but become a better singer!

Scott is amazing he was patient and support Scott started the fire and passion I once had so long ago. That I can not put a price tag on. As a Head Softball coach for 50 years I know how much that means.

"Luther is an excellent and patient teacher. I’ve been playing guitar for nearly a decade, but have been self-taught and always neglected working on the fundamentals. With extra time on my hands during the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to try online guitar lessons. Luther took me back to square one and has made sure I get everything perfect before moving on. It’s making me a much more consistent and disciplined guitarist, and I’m learning to read music for the first time. I wasn’t sure how useful remote guitar lessons would be before I started, but was pleased to discover that Luther makes it an excellent way to learn."

"Dr. D teaches guitar to both our kids. He is well versed in music theory, styles and has functional knowledge of other cultural styles. He has demonstrated time again the ability to refocus our two teens who can be easily distracted during teaching sessions. They have shown progress over the last year and half that is twice that they had previously achieved in over 3 years of learning. While being direct in artistic feedback he is able to connect with the kids at their level to push them to a higher plane of finesse in using music theory and applying this to compositions they are undergoing training in. He does not compromise on quality of learning and does not hesitate to put in additional runs at practice or extra time till they get it right. He always starts with 'what's the progress and do you have any questions?" this essentially covers adequately the gap between learning sessions and the chance for the kids to pause and pick up anything they have not yet mastered. A unique touch was a duet that Dr. D got the kids to master over several weeks of patience with them, which now is an admired piece in our family gatherings (showing off their talents to the relatives/friends). He is very reasonable with time off requests for summer/spring vacations as well. We are very fortunate to have made his acquaintance as a teacher for our kids."

"I highly recommend taking guitar lessons with Ahmad. I've had instructors in the past who I realized weren't the best match for what I was I was trying to accomplish and the first lesson gave me the space to feel out if Ahmad was going to be a good match for me! After the first lesson I immediately knew Ahmad was going to be professional, skilled, easy to work with, and open-minded. I really appreciated that Ahmad was down to go outside of your standard lessons in music theory and cater my experience in a way that would fast track me to what I wanted to accomplish within my lessons. As a self-taught musician who has been playing in touring bands for about the last 4 years I had a lot of different strengths and weaknesses. Ahmad helped me hone in on areas that would allow me to boost my confidence in practices and live performances while developing skills to better communicate musically with my bandmates. I believe Ahmad is the perfect instructor for all skill levels and backgrounds. He is an extremely talented and versatile musician. In addition to his abilities as a musician and instructor, he is patient, easy to communicate with, motivating, and understanding."
