I play acoustic guitar for at least two hours a day, it's a huge focus of my time and energy for my students as well as my personal goals.
We'll do finger-picking, strum patterns, and so much more..everything you need to know!
*PLEASE NOTE: I don't travel to Bellevue, Mercer Island or anywhere that requires me to drive over I-90 or the 520 bridge. Sorry! 3 miles is my maximum distance of travel, and please take note of the time slot I have open (usually just a few).
I've been exploring music since age 13 when I started on guitar and electric bass. I've gigged around the Puget Sound area for over a decade and am passionate about many styles of music. I've played in jazz and blues ensembles while studying music in Boston and Seattle. I perform my own music. I play acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, ukulele, mandolin, piano, drums and I sing.
Chords, scales and finger-picking are the three areas of guitar, ukulele and mandolin playing which I have my stu
dents work on each week (the areas for bass are; scales and the different types of bass playing methods). The format for my sheets is done in traditional music notation with a mix of tablature - the standard presentation for guitar books. Sessions are also divided more or less in half between working on fundamentals and working on songs. Music appreciation, learning to play with other instruments and play-alongs with recordings are also a part of my teaching platform. Students are encouraged to give song suggestions for learning, and it's one of my favorite aspects of being an instructor! My YouTube channel has some Student Favorites playlists with the most memorable and effective songs I've been teaching over the last decade. Cheers!
*** Travel Equipment *** I bring one of my acoustics to my lessons.
James was awesome! I took a series of 10 at home lessons that really boosted my bass playing. He used a combination of learning with music that I could play along to as well as practice chord tones and other more classical learning tools. I would recommend him to anyone that wanted to build their skills.

James was a delight, and our son was pleased with his first lesson.

You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And it's what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack.
But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's okay too!
I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students. That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.
Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster...
Let me be the Music Coach to get you there!

I have been teaching guitar almost 20 years and as an instructor, My teaching method comes from a curriculum I have developed which uses popular guitar driven rock tunes as musical etudes. Educating the student with valuable theory, reading, technique, and scale theory, while remaining fun. As a songwriter I have worked with companies like Wild Whirled Music which writes and records music for use in film and television as well as songwriter and producer greats such as Tim James, Antonina Armato, and legendary Desmond Child. With Wild Whirled Music I have had my songs placed on MTV, FOX, TNT, VH1, CW, E!, Bravo, FX, USA and TLC on shows such as LA Ink, Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Parks and Recreation, Mentalist, Psych, Bones, The Office, The Adam Sandler Film "That's My Boy" and the Greg Kinnear film “Stuck In Love”
I am 4 or 5 lessons in with Jared and I am truly and entirely thrilled with the progress I am seeing and the depth of guitar knowledge I have gained. Jared has a way of teaching that not only allows for actually playing right away but learning the foundations of knowing the guitar and music. I can see that this allows for not just playing "songs" but making music of my own. This is the freedom of "knowing" the guitar.

Headline: Jared is amazing teacher.
Jared has excellent knowledge of music foundations and music theory.
Knows styles and genres, knows not only how to play but create too... And how this style was born.
He helps to build habit to do things right - I'm talking about technique - or, in other words - how to use your hands!
Same time he's extremely patient.
I'd like to recommend Jared for everyone who want's to learn play guitar (don't look at your age), his teaching approach works great, because he is teaching you and adjust classes for you.

I received my Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from Los Angeles College of Music in 2018; I have been playing guitar for over 13 years. I am passionate about music, as well as teaching students how to make their own music. I am highly educated in music theory, harmony, music history, technique, guitar string theory, recording, songwriting, production, and mixing. I have an incredibly deep knowledge of guitar equipment, effects, amps, and more. My favorite styles are rock, funk, blues, jazz, and hip hop/R&B. I have the ability to break down complicated ideas into simple and understandable pieces that allow for easy learning and comprehension, which allows students to make progress quickly. Taking lessons with me will give you a full understanding of contemporary music, based on the fundamentals of music.
For students who have played an instrument prior to our lessons, I try and shape a curriculum entirely based upon the specific goals of the student, and I rarely use text books although I use a lot of exercises and educational material when appropriate. I feel learning to play and transcribe songs and solos to increase a students self reliance and confidence is my most important job. Most students come to me looking for structure so I try and provide a clear path to their goals. For students with no prior music experience I use text books, and exercises to strengthen their technique, expose them to musical ideas, and give them a foundation for basic theory. After that is accomplished I move into a curriculum that is more personal to their specific goals.
I have been playing instruments and performing live since I was 11 years old. Initially trained in classical piano I added guitar to my musical palette at the age of 14. In college I spent time continuing my studies in both piano and guitar and received a bachelors of fine arts with a concentration in jazz guitar from Columbia College Chicago in 2004.
I have since moved to Seattle, WA and have become a regular fixture in the music community as a guitar and theory teacher, songwriter/guitarist of the pop rock bands Electric NoNo and Warren Dunes, and co founder and producer of the The Big Ass Boom Box Festival Seattle and the Seattle X Southwest showcase at SXSW Festival in Austin. I have released five studio albums that have received regional and national attention, toured regionally and nationally, and perform regularly at Seattle ma
instays including The Crocodile, The Sunset, Columbia City Theater, and many more. My band recently performed at The Upstream Music Festival in downtown Seattle in March 2017.
I consider myself a life long student of music and I pride myself on my dedication to a complete understanding of my instrument. I offer beginner - advanced lessons for guitar and songwriting, and beginner - intermediate lessons for ukulele. I also administer a variety of workshops throughout the year for guitar, songwriting, and music theory, as well as bi annual student recitals.
He pays attention to detail, is super organized with a definite plan and knows how to keep a student's interest. He is balanced and very realistic in his approach. He is talented and meets the student where he is. He is even transcribing a Bollywood song for my son and my son is loving it! He is flexible... We are so happy to have found him.

Can clearly explain the bigger picture and break concepts down accordingly. Great at taking bits and pieces of where you're at and recognizing which gaps need filled in order to build a good foundation moving forward.
Hello, My name is Ryan. I am a Seattle native and artist. I began playing music here in the early 90s... My core instrument and the root of my knowledge is the guitar. I have been playing off and on for almost 30 years now. And by off and on I mean, we get busy in life and sometimes there's just not enough time for practice. However, I have been able to find happiness in just the smallest amount of time with my instrument and I hope you'll find a fraction of that happiness for yourself and if you do, believe me, you'll never regret making the effort. So I'll explain quickly my philosophy, It starts with making time. We all know that practice makes perfect and patience is the key to making your own particular artistic vision come to life. It is hard work but, with a little bit of time and effort, you can become the kind of player that you expect you can be. I approach teaching music from this perspective...I Endeavor to emulate those I enjoy listening to. This is my philosophy. if

Nobody likes trudging through difficult music that they don’t like. If a song is too hard, it’s not going to sound good. And if you don’t like the song, why bother putting in the effort?
To solve this problem for you, here’s a very eclectic list of easy songs to play on your acoustic guitar.
