Broadway/Musical Theater has a rich and exciting history, evolving from opera to operetta, to major movie productions from the golden era of Hollywood in the 1940's/ 1950's to radical social and political themes from the 1960's (a la Hair) to present day Hamilton. We survey this history with songs spanning the Musical Theater genre, and focus on songs of student's choosing. Exploration of story-line, character study, and "song as monologue" are major considerations within lessons. Audition preparation can be part of the lessons as indicated by the student. In terms of the Broadway "sound", we use exercises that expand the voice in volume, range and emotional expression.

Rachel knows her stuff but I felt like she was rushing our lessons or cutting them short for the next student. The lessons were also generic and all we did was warm-ups. She'd promise we'd get to the song next time but we never got through the entire thing after five lessons and there was no progression.

Piano lessons with Rachel were a gift from a friend and it has been one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. From day one I knew I had the right teacher because of how she responded to all of my questions of “why”. She appreciates and feeds off of my curiosity which in turn nourishes and excites me. She explains the theory and why music works the way it does. We’ve even dabbled into voice a bit. Continuing piano lessons with her has been the best thing I’ve done this year and I’m looking forward to many more lessons.

Rachel is an outstanding piano teacher -- especially for adult students.

As an exceptional teacher, she knows exactly how to motivate a student by making the subject both fun and rewarding. She knows music theory so extensively that her lessons are more than simply about playing keys on the piano. My understanding of the piano is so much richer because she presents every lesson in the context of theory.

Rachel is particularly adept in tailoring a piano program around the student's interests and learning style. This has made the lessons fun as I quickly learned to play songs that interest me.

I would recommend Rachel for any student -- young or mature -- who is interested in learning to play the piano as a lifetime skill.

As a teacher, my purpose above all is to unlock a student’s true potential, whether it be musical of otherwise. I do not believe in trying to make or force a particular sound with any student. When proper technique is instilled the voice will go in the direction it is meant with freedom and ease. My goal is to guide the student along their journey of self-discovery. My motto is “if you can feel it, you can repeat it”. What I mean by this is when a student experiences the unique sensation of using the breath efficiently or producing sound without tension a light bulb turns on and they now have a better chance of continuing proper technique. In order to help students feel these sensations in the body that are necessary for singing I use various physical exercises to help create more body awareness. For singers our instrument is our body, and everyone’s body is uniquely their own. I have found every student has his or her own method of learning, whether that is visual, aural, ...

Singing is one of the most joyful activities you can do! Anyone can learn to sing.
I love teaching others to sing and perform, and I've been doing so for over 20 years - through private lessons, music theater workshops, music schools and choruses. I work with students where they are at and help them to build a solid technique that works for them.

I was looking for a vibrant, fun piano teacher for my kids as they were not motivated by strict teachers who also taught them boring songs they could not relate to. What a gift of a teacher we found in Catherine. Not only is she warm, kind, caring with an easy rapport for kids and adults alike but she is also an excellent piano and voice instructor. This talented lady is a professional singer too who is well versed in Broadway show tunes and opera too. She also instill her students with a sense of musical rhythm and is holistic in her approach to kids who might need a little physical warm up before class in order to attend better. Catherine’s voice is magnificent and we were fortunate enough to attend a show where she played the lead for The Taming of the Shrew.
She is a professional voice and classical opera teacher too and this complements her piano instruction .. A perk is she can travel to your home or does lesions in her own home . In addition
is a passionate, excellent voice teacher for anyone who is looking to hone their vocal skills and talents. I wholeheartedly recommend Catherine - her lessons are more than just teaching - she is a true mentor and educator in every sense of the word.

"I cannot say enough to recommend Paige. She knows the mechanics of singing down to the minutia, but that is really not the best part. She has a way of making you want to work hard and it just seems like fun. I sang in a choir as a kid. I had ideas on how to sing. She quickly got me to show myself why my singing style was not as productive. I have learned a ton from her and always learn more. I have a great time when she is working with me."

"Fay is such an amazing teacher! I got into Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School thanks to her. Best Teacher I've had, she helps train your voice and goes through the vocal anatomy so you understand techniques such as proper breathing, posture, coordination, grounding, acting, diction...etc. I've been her student for about a year three years now and I have to say that my voice has improved so much as a performer all thanks to her! If you get the chance, at least take a class, you will not regret it!"
