The act of singing changes the chemistry of our bodies! A team of German scientists have found that vocalizing spurs the production of oxytocin, a hormone commonly referred to as the "love" molecule. Oxytocin is known to heighten happiness, well-being, trust and reduce stress and anxiety. We will practice breathing exercises (pranayama) to increase breath capacity and control. You will learn techniques to smooth the break (passagio) to sing with a connected tone. You will know how to engage the "yawning" muscles (soft palate, mylohyoid, sternohyoid, thyrohyoid) to maximize resonance. We will practice exercises to relax the tongue and jaw to belt high notes effortlessly. Developing "middle voice" will extend our vocal range and eliminate strain and fatigue. We will choose repertoire that highlights your vocal strengths and discuss stage presence and expression through song. I highly recommend "The New Voice" by Alan Greene.

Hey there!! My name is Jameson Tabor and I'm a professional recording artist (singer, songwriter, and producer) based in Los Angeles, CA. I'm also an experienced musician and live performer with over 20 years of study and industry experience. Lessons in my studio are about so much more than just learning to sing a song or analyze music**. Students are instilled with technique, work ethic, real-world business knowledge, and confidence so that they can truly accomplish whatever they set their minds to. We go deep and focus on how to develop new mental and physical habits that can help you better express yourself. Every student gets a handcrafted curriculum that I specifically cater to meet their goals and needs, and of course, that I hope is fun too! Singing is one of the most vulnerable things anyone can do!–which is why it's so important to me that I provide not only criticism and critique, but also praise and validation. I've learned that we all do our best work when we can feel hopeful, proud, and supported in our individuality. We can only improve by putting ourselves out there, which means you failing (a lot!). From lesson one, I will begin instilling you with knowledge and confidence, while always providing you opportunities to build up your independence. I will be right there with you in the trenches, celebrating your wins with you, calling you out on your excuses, and reminding you to recognize both the big and small changes as you move closer to your goals. I generally work with adults and teens (ages 16 and up) who have a genuine passion for music and/or are following a career in the arts. I've worked with students from ages 6-65, with a huge variety of backgrounds and interests–from complete beginners with no musical background or training to professional performing artists. Singing is a skill, and any skill can be learned with the right time and attention. If you show up once a week and put in the work, I guarantee that you will see improvement in your technical skills within the first month of starting lessons. So what are you waiting for?? Let's do this! Jameson PS. I also offer the option of accompanying my students on the keyboard during lessons at no additional cost. **Reading music and music theory knowledge is useful, but not required.

I have been teaching this subject for over 20 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected primarily from the Broadway and West End rep based on the student's learning needs and with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique (enunciation, breathing, pitch/intonation, etc.) and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

My lessons with Denise have been great. I took lessons under the intention of performance in musical theater, and in under five lessons she was able to get it professional-ready. By no means does that
