During my time with students, I strive to assist them in taking risks, discovering the joy of music, and making progress with their singing. No matter what their goals are- All-State Choir, opera, musical theatre, or just having fun, I love helping them reach them. By looking at different genres of vocal music, we will focus on many different aspects of singing, from music theory, to expressive performance, to the foundation of healthy singing.

I believe that every student is unique and learns in his or her own way. Therefore, I tailor the pace and focus of lessons on each student’s interests and abilities. I believe it is integral for all students to have an understanding of music theory and therefore, work on theory and sight-reading. In addition, I think a well-rounded musical education is key, and work on an array of genres with my students including folk songs, art songs, and musical theatre. Students will work on 2-5 songs at once, and will consider a song "learned" once ...

About Meg

At the age of 4 I began producing musicals in my basement with my sister. This progressed to acting classes, piano lessons, and eventually the school musical in sixth grade. I began taking voice lessons when I was in eighth grade and have never looked back. Through high school, I focused on both cl

Meg is a great teacher who is extremely attentive to each person's unique voice. She doesn't try to force any particular technique or style, but it responsive to what works for each individual and where they are at in terms of experience and comfort with singing. She brings an overflowing tool kit of techniques and knowledge about the voice and body and uses them creatively and effectively to help her students produce their best sounds. I've been working with her for almost a year now and highly recommend her as a teacher!

My teaching method focuses on good breathing, vocal support, forward placement, clear diction, and freedom of sound. This technique has a classical base, but can be applied to a variety of musical styles. In addition to exploring contrasting musical styles such as classical music and musical theatre, students also learn to read music and study basic music theory. Students receive a well-rounded education in vocal technique and good musicianship so they will be able to sing all types of music.

About Jonathan

Teaching philosophy: Taking voice lessons can be a very exciting and wonderful learning experience. It does take dedication and hard work, but can be quite rewarding in the long run. There are many different genres of music and therefore various styles of singing. Although there are no set rule

An expert in Vocal coaching. He is able to customize his lesson plan to best suite your goals as a vocalist! I have done 3/5 lessons with this guy & I have gotten more than my money's worth. I can hear the improvement in my tone & breathe control already!
Marc
I have been studying classical voice with Jonathan for well over two years. His knowledge of vocal production and technique is superb, but more importantly he is a humble and approachable teacher. We've added a lot to my opera repertoire as well as my musical theater book for auditions, and my voice has discovered real strength and power (I've always been told that I'm a bass-baritone, but with Jonathan's instruction I've found safe ways to hit the top notes I need in MT and the power I need in my middle register for opera). Plus he's got a fantastic apartment on the upper east side overlooking gracie square park and the east river, with a great space to sing out, an upright piano for accompaniment and a great vocal music library. Highly recommend!

8 Beautiful Opera Arias for Beginner Singers

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career. It’s absolutely crucial that you sing repertoire that is …
