Broadway holds a special place in my heart. I believe emotional connection to the songs and correct singing techniques to be crucial on stage. My students will learn to diminish personal weaknesses and build up their unique strengths. I will use my personal expertise and experience to assist each student reach their personal goals and potential.
About Kristen
Through my years as a musician, I have come to appreciate many different kinds of music ranging anywhere from Broadway to opera to Jazz, etc. I feel this gives me the a
I believe self confidence is extremely important as a vocalist. "Stage fright" is one of the most common things that holds us back from reaching our full potential. Singing with confidence makes you feel great, and sound even better. Sometimes it is all that's missing from a potentially amazing singer. I have helped many students overcome this road block and emerge filled with confidence and self assurance.
*** Lesson Details ***
Did you know that people can hear a smile in your voice? Smiling while singing actually produces a different sound that is pleasant to the ear. I want this experience to be fun for my students. I do, however, believe self discipline is a very important aspect of music. I will encourage students to practice regularly and come prepared to learn. I will usually request that young students bring a recording device so they can take home our lessons and practice. This also allows you to hear how you sound during lessons and reproduce(or improve) that at home.
During my lessons, we will cover topics ranging from technical skills, basic singing principles, ear training, sight-reading, to theoretical knowledge. We will also discuss voice maintenance. That said, I feel it's important to get out of the lessons what you want, so I don't have a set curriculum. I tailor each lesson to the student.
All in all, I am a patient, fun-loving teacher who will work hard to bring out the very best in all my students. I will neither push too hard nor be too lenient as we strive to reach the goals we have set together.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano and music books provided
*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide some music for the student. I would prefer that the student have access to a piano and bring a tape recorder and notebook to each lesson.
*** Specialties ***
Although I was classically trained and studied opera in college, my younger singing experience largely involved musical theatre. I have always been told I am a natural on stage. I strive to instill that confidence into my students because confidence really is half the battle. I especially love to help students prepare for auditions!

He performs, as a solo entertainer, an unusually wide ranging repertoire because of his versatility on guitar, piano, and vocals. Being an accomplished arranger with a vast library of charts also allows him to lead a ten piece orchestra as competently as a trio or quartet. He has performed extensively in New York, Chicago, Cape Cod, and Florida.

I always try to make lessons as comfortable and enjoyable as possible yet challenging enough to maintain interest. I build lessons around the student's individual interests (specific songs or styles) so that he or she can learn the technical fundamentals in a relevant context.
My own curriculum is supplemented by the following:
Guitar: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, Aaron Shearer Classical Guitar Method
Piano: Alfred's Basic Piano Course , John W. Schaum Piano Course
Voice: Jeffrey Allen's Secrets of Singing, Nicola Vaccai Practical Method
*** Studio Equipment ***
Hardman baby grand acoustic piano
OptimusMD1600 electronic keyboard
Crate TX50D guitar amplifer
*** Specialties ***
- Singing lesson time is generally divided 50/50 between voice building and repertoire. I accompany vocalists on both piano and guitar, teaching the melody notes as they are sung along with the piano. Then, once the melody is learned, I often switch to the guitar with just chordal backing. The acoustic guitar is also softer than the piano and lets the singer hear their own voice better. For voice building, I use my own concepts plus approaches of famous voice teachers like Jeffrey Allen, Seth Riggs, and Anthony Frissel.
- I am very experienced performing all styles of guitar and can cater to the student's specific area of interest, whether it be rock, folk, classical, or jazz.
- With piano, I work on fundamentals of reading and technique. Learning basic harmony and chord construction starting with triads (3 note chords), the student can soon read single stave lead sheets (a form of music notation widely utilized by professional musicians) as well as the grand staff. This approach trains the ear and makes learning how to play popular songs much easier.

How to project, use clear diction, and how to use the legit and belt voice to convey character.
About Kait
As a teacher, Kait's focus with each student is to help them understand both the anatomy and health of their vocal instrument and to help them tap into their very best sound in an engaging and fun way.
Kait: "Every singer has stumbling blocks. It is my passion to help them identify those, understand them and then...shatter them. Singers are complex people with complex instruments, and no matter what our expertise level, the DESIRE to sing is something to be protected an
Professionally as a singer, Kait has headlined her own blues band, sung in several cover bands and also performed as a featured lead vocalist alongside John Lee Hooker Jr. (Blues Grammy artist nominee) on his western tour of the U.S. Kait was the lead singer and co-songwriter for the band Light Vizion and co-produced the band's debut album "Looking For An Angel" and can be heard as the solo vocalist on the album "True North" by Tristan Moore. She is currently a freelance vocalist in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has sung lead and solo in a large variety of venues, including Capitol Theatre, Abravanel Hall, Rose Wagner (Jeanne Wagner Stage) and several local clubs and restaurants as well as festivals and outdoor concerts including the annual Scarecrow Festival and the Brown Bag Concert Series and Furry Fiesta Fundraiser! While in Los Angeles, Kait performed in numerous clubs and blues music venues, including The Brown Derby, The Blue Cafe and BB Kings in Hollywood. She has also worked as a professional singer for several years in the Los Angeles Music Industry where she performed in several bands and worked as an in demand "session" singer (someone people hire to come in and quickly record vocals for various professional and experimental projects).
Kait's education as a singing performer includes a B.F.A. from the Actor Training Program at the University of Utah, an M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Performance from San Diego State University plus 5 years post-grad study in Los Angeles training in voice with world master voice teacher, Edward Sayegh.
In 2004 Kait returned to her roots in Salt Lake City, UT to continue both her singing and teaching career. She continues to write, arrange and record as a freelance singer, and has appeared as the featured vocalist with groups like Children's Dance Theatre and Ririe-Woodbury as well as other local blues and rock bands.
Kait: "My goal with each student is to help them to become the very best they can be as singing performers. But in addition, I aim to lift their spirit during the time they spend here, so that when they leave for the day, after the work they've done, they feel better, more inspired, more empowered and more confident and driven than they did when they arrived at my door. Teaching and watching my students evolve as both artists and people is thrilling! I have the honor of watching them find themselves through music while they build truly lifelong friendships with the performing peers they meet in the classes and performances they participate in here...they end up finding some of their 'kindred spirits' in life here, and that is something that is priceless as an artist."
