*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher many have described my style as nurturing-but-firm. When I see a student's potential, I make sure that student can attain it. I expect a willingness to learn, a desire to succeed, and a want for excellence. In return, I offer the tools to get the student there!

I know that not every student benefits best from only one method. As such, I employ a variety of teaching tools and methods to best suit each student. Strings students can expect to see a little bit of traditional training, a little bit of Suzuki and little bit of contemporary training. Voice students can see some Sieber vocalizes, some Vaccai, classical, jazz, and musical theater training built on an old-world teaching technique. It's all about giving the student the tools to do whatever he/she wants with his/her music of choice!

On your first lesson, I'll go over the materials needed, what you need to work on, and the very basics so you can immediately get to enjoying your new craft. In a few months, you'll be confident making new music or making better music. Within a year, you should be well prepared for one of my studio recitals!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a commercial music teaching studio used solely for the purposes of teaching. In the studio there is a piano, my music library, photo copier, computer, audio equipment, stereo, music stands, standing mirror, and various teaching tools. There is a waiting area for parents, siblings and other visitors.

James has been a wonderful teacher. He has greatly helped me advance in my beginning cello skills by carefully observing, demonstrating as needed, then showing me the things I can do to improve. He does this in such a manner that instead of feeling discouraged, I am even more motivated to improve. I am learning cello as an adult simply for the fun of trying something new. My wife, who played flute on scholarship through college and some professionally has noticed, and commented, on the improvement. In summary, I highly recommend James for both adults and for kids. He just has a great knack for teaching.

About Rachel
Mezzo-soprano Rachel A. has captured audiences throughout the United States with her rich and warm timbre, beautiful blend, and dynamic stage presence. A native of Stockton, California, Rachel was born into a musical family and quickly developed an affinity for the performing arts. She first fell in love with classical music as an oboist and gradually found her niche as a singer through her passion for languages, literature, and theater. In the fall of 2012, she relocated to Connecticut where she continues to be an active performer of opera, oratorio, art song, crossover, and new music.

Most recently, she was seen as the mezzo-soprano soloist in Capella Cantorum Masterwork Chorus and the Old Lyme Congregational Church Choir's performances of Handel's Messiah, the mezzo soloisit in Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat with the Stamford Chora
le, with Hartford Opera Theater as Elise in Dawn Sonntag's Verlorene Heimat, Pythia in Nkeiru Okeye’s We’ve Got Our Eye on You, and as Miss Paige in Dan Shore’s An Embarrassing Position which was nominated for Best Featured Ensemble in a Musical through the 2015 Broadway World Connecticut Awards. She has also performed with Opera Theater of Connecticut, Connecticut Lyric Opera, Madison Lyric Stage, Greater Worcester Opera, Revolution Opera Alliance, the Simsbury Light Opera Company, and the Greater Meriden Concert Chorale.

Prior to moving to Connecticut, Rachel lived in St. Louis, Missouri, where she frequently performed with the St. Louis Symphony as a member of the St. Louis Symphony Chorus. She has also performed with Winter Opera St. Louis, Union Avenue Opera, and the Southern Illinois Music Festival. In 2012, Ms. Abrams had the opportunity to be a sponsored young artist with Winter Opera St. Louis where she performed the role of Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos, covered Musetta in La Bohème, and performed in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical review: A Grand Night for Singing. Ms. Abrams has also performed with Opera Fort Collins, Loveland Opera Theater, Victorian Lyric Opera, and Opera Classica Europa in Bad Schwalbach, Germany as an apprentice artist. Additional operatic credits include Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore and Miss Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Theif.

A passionate performer of Jewish music, Ms. Abrams was featured as a soloist in Martin Bresnick’s puppet opera, Der Signál, with the Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra during the 10th Annual Celebration of Jewish Arts and Culture at Charter Oak Cultural Center in October of 2014. As an active performer of art song, Ms. Abrams has collaborated with various musicians throughout the New England region to create diverse and accessible art song recitals. In April of 2015, Ms. Abrams and pianist Michael Korman presented a recital featuring the works of Schönberg, Ruth Schönthal, Previn, and Weill with the Maurice Greenberg Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Hartford.

Since the winter of 2016, Rachel has been an active performer with Lollipop Opera Outreach. This touring opera company brings the joy of opera to thousands of school children throughout New England. This season, she will perform the roles of the Mother/Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Babe in The Three Pigs – A Pig Tale, and participate in the premiere of a new interactive “culinary” opera adventure: A Fairytale Kitchen.

In addition to being a passionate performer and collaborator, Rachel is a private music educator dedicated to the success of her students. Ms. A maintains a private studio of voice students out of her home in West Hartford, Connecticut. In addition to her private teaching studio, she is the alto section leader at St. James Episcopal Church in Farmington. She has also taught at Farmington Valley Academy Montessori in Avon, Arts Place in Cheshire and Summit Studios in Manchester.

As a voice teacher, Ms. A provides her students with a holistic, healthy, and age appropriate technique based on her studies of vocal pedagogy, years of lessons from master teachers, and her personal experiences as a performer. Through personalized vocal exercises and repertoire assignments, students will learn how to achieve a proper vocal onset, management of air pressure, increase vocal stamina, and maximize vocal freedom through balanced resonance. While Ms. Abrams teaches "classical" technique, her students apply her pedagogy to all styles of singing including, but certainly not limited to: musical theater, jazz, gospel, barber shop, and even rock!

Before opening her own private studio in Connecticut, Ms. Abrams lived in St. Louis, Missouri where she taught throughout the region. While in Missouri, she served as an Adjunct Voice Instructor/Lecture Professor at East Central College and a Private Voice and Music Instructor at St. John's School of the Arts.

In addition to her teaching experience in the Missouri area, Rachel was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Northern Colorado, where she was an assistant instructor for Music Survey and Music and World Cultures classes.

Ms. A holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelor of Music degree from San José State University. She lives in West Hartford with her husband Ben and their anti-social diva cat, Bonnie. She is currently accepting new students!

*** Specialties ***
I teach classical technique, specifically focusing on proper resonance and breath control. This method can be highly useful to broadway, jazz, popular or any other style of singing.

Mallory helped me with an audition, and it has turned into recurring lessons for over a year now. She is extremely organized, positive, and patient. She’s a multi-talented master of several crafts, and I’ve been so impressed. I’ve got a newfound strength in my voice, and I have landed more callbacks this year than the last three years combined. I also want to start Guitar, and I know she has a million happy students on that front too. If you’re in the Nashville area, pick her. Even if you’re not, she’s amazing online too!

Hi guys! My name is Juan. I am a professional singer, musician, and music teacher.I have around 15 years of experience with various instruments from drums, guitar, voice, piano, and bass.

I spent three years as a touring and working musician in Argentina from 2012-2015, gigging 4-5 times per week, and that largely influenced my understanding of the necessary skills one must have in order to sing and perform comfortably!

I have studied private voice lessons on my own for nearly 10 years, and taught for around five years. When working with my students, I work through three things: breathing, technique, and range. My students range from first level beginning singers and musicians to already established and working musicians, just looking to better their breathing, technique, and expand their vocal range.

I enjoy making the lessons catered to your own musical desires, so we will be choosing songs that YOU like singing and performing! Furthermore, many of you are in bands or ...

About Juan
I am an experienced musician, singer, and teacher. I have six years of performing and touring experience, and six years teaching private lessons as well as at the School Of Rock in Ballwin, MO. I like to work with my students on their specific needs/interests/desires as singers and musicians. Whether that is on technique, performance, extending range, learning songs, or simply feeling more comfortable with your singing voice and your performing abilities, I am happy to help you grow as a singer and musician.

I was very nervous as I had never sang in front of anyone before and she made me feel confident and comfortable as I stepped out of my comfort zone for the first time.
I will definitely go back to continue my work with her in the future when the timing is right! Thank you so much Zelda!!!

I loved getting lessons from Zelda! Her bright bubbly personality is so welcoming. She greeted me each lesson with a cup of herbal tea to sooth the vocal cords and we then worked on a series of great vocal techniques that have helped me maximise my singing potential.
This has subsequently led to me being a professional singer and touring extensively both nationally and internationally in a number of different singing styles and genres (including Jazz/Classical/Pop/Rock/Folk/Country).
Her safe methods build vocal control and stamina; as well as develop world class expressive and stylistic techniques. She manages all of this while also making lessons fun!

I've been teaching voice lessons to students of all ages for 8 years. My ultimate goal is always to help students find and cultivate their own unique sound with a focus on healthy vocal function.

No two people are exactly alike, and that includes voices! So, while I base my teaching on pedagogy I've learned in my study of classical and commercial styles of singing, my approach is always specific to each student I encounter. Whether you want to learn your favorite songs to crush at karaoke, or you're interested in building the chops to be a pro singer, I can meet you where you are.

Music has afforded me some of the best experiences and greatest opportunities for growth and friendship. Aside from teaching students healthy singing, it's my aim to help more musicians (or musicians-in-waiting) build the skills to access the same kinds of opportunities in whatever way makes the most sense.

About Amberly
Hi there - Amberly here! I was born into a musical family in Cincinnati, OH but Nashville has been my home since 2014. I grew up listening to and singing gospel music, in addition to pop, soul, and R&B ranging from the 1970s to contemporary. Some of my earliest musical memories involve me sitting on the front pew at church on weeknights learning and singing old hymns and new praise and worship songs. My dad (Minister of Music), mom (Youth choir director) and grandmother (children and senior choir director) would teach me and my siblings the harmonies before rehearsals so that we could help demonstrate songs to the choirs.

Since finishing grad school in 2017, I have spent my time teaching voice lessons from my apartment and at a music school in Nashville during the week. I have also been the regular lead vocalist for 1 original funk/blue
s project, and 2 private events acts for an entertainment company since 2017. If I'm not teaching, performing with these bands in town or on the road is usually how I spend my weekends. I also participate in a monthly "reading session" at the Musician's Union as a featured vocalist. The rotating roster of instrumentalists includes some of Nashville's best studio and live players.

Aside from music I enjoy reading sci-fi and fantasy books, watching sci-fi and fantasy TV/movies(the good, the bad and the ugly) writing songs, walking in parks, and traveling with my husband in my down time! I also started a healthy living journey in 2018 and have lost 40 lbs. to-date, so hitting the gym, along with Pilates, and yoga have become some of my favorite fitness pastimes.

For those interested in songwriting, my lesson plan can include learning foundations in songwriting to help you create your own original songs and melodies.

I have an exclusive production contract with a top producer/engineer in Nashville, Grammy nominated Joseph Magee (Pitch Perfect, Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Metallica, Whitney Houston, Etta James, Manhattan Transfer).

Unique for a young performing artist, I have enjoyed a balance in my life between science and the arts. At a ver
y young age, I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Genetics from the University of British Columbia, while working as a professional Polynesian dancer crossing the Pacific for numerous performances.

In the beginning of my performance career, I appeared as a finalist in the Voice of the Philippines and Canadian Idol. I then performed on the road in China, Philippines, Japan, South Korea, UK, Ireland, Hawaii, Polynesia throughout Canada and the USA. In addition, my voice has appeared in TV & Film.

I met Jerrica through her chorale lesson and after hearing her sing an Ariana Grande song with such ease and brilliant technique, that moment I knew I had to start taking private lessons with her. I have been taking private vocal and songwriting lessons with Jerrica since December 2014 and it has been one of the most amazing experiences in music I’ve had. Jerrica has opened up so much possibilities for me by inspiring me through her music and supporting me through my musical journey. From her knowledge in music theory, piano skills, wide range in vocal styles to songwriting, she has helped me bring out the best in me.
