Raised on musical theater through my maternal grandfather, vaudeville orchestra leader, Dave Smason, I was first hooked on Broadway musicals seeing the original cast production of the Music Man in NYC at age 3. the great off Broadway opening of"The Fantasticks" at age 7. It was not unusual for my twin brother, mom and me to belt out our 3 part versions of every recorded Broadway tune from Rogers and Hammerstein and Lerner and Lowe to Gershwin, Sondheim, Jule Styne, and Bernstein at any given moment.
Because there were never enough local productions to perform in, (ie; "Annie Get your Gun" , " The fortune teller" , " How to Succeed....," " Gypsy", " The Mikado", " Once upon a Matress",
"Brigadoon", "La Boheme", " Kismet", and " The Secret Garden", I started my own musical theater company on Whidbey Island, where I directed double cast productions of "The Sound of Music", " Amahl and the Night Visitors", " Grease", and "Hair" highlights, then in the Netherlands, "Oliver"," You're ...

"I needed last minute coaching for an upcoming audition and was feeling unprepared and frazzled. Chelsea easily knew what I needed. She made recommendations, was wonderfully engaging, and her insight and ear highlighted some important tweaks that I would have overlooked in my haste to prepare. After just one session I felt clearer, calmer, and considerably more confident. Bonus: Chelsea is incredibly kind, fun to work with and makes you feel you already know one another. Chelsea has my highest recommendation"

"I started working with Jen a little over two months ago, and in those two months I have learned more about the music business than I have in my entire life. Ms. Jen works hard to make sure her students get the most out of every lesson. She is a genuine person with a huge heart and dedication to the music field. In every lesson, Ms. Jen warms us up well by working on breathing techniques. We are always laughing and having a ball, there is never a dull moment with Ms. Jen! I would recommend Jen to anyone interested in taking lessons. She is an inspiration to all of her students, and the best teacher I have ever had!"

"I could not be happier with my decision to take voice lessons with Ben! These past couple of months have been more beneficial to me than any of my previous experience with other teachers. I have already seen improvement in my voice and there is still so much I can learn. Ben works to improve the voice as a whole, rather than limiting it to one specific area. I would highly recommend him to those who are ready to put in the work necessary to get great results."

Since the first lesson, my range has expanded and I've grown more confident in my ability--especially in trying out new styles/genres. It's an added bonus that she's flexible with my busy and ever-changing schedule! I would highly recommend her to students of all levels."

Want to Someday Star On Broadway? 3 Tips from an Expert

Dreaming about someday starring on the Broadway stage? Here, Los Angeles, CA teacher Meredith P. shares her expert tips to help you get there...   As an audience member, you can sit back and relax at a Broadway show, and not truly understand the work that it takes to get to that coveted stage and the tremendous blood, sweat, and tears that go into each performance. As with athletes, the only thing the audience sees is the end result. A lot of times it can be intoxicating and glamor …
