I have worked with a number of Broadway performers, helping them find dynamic and compelling ways of fine tuning their performances.

About Amy
I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical voice training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting, I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I received a B.A. For comparative literature and creative writing at the State University of New York at Purchase and have recently completed my Master's degree in social work at Walden University.
I believe, within all of us, Is the ability to express something distinctive and original. I work to help students discover their unique voice, whether it be through singing, acting, or writing. I share with my students an array of tools to gain the ability
and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges students may face when pursuing a life in the creative and performing arts, having worked professionally in those areas for most of my adult life. I believe it is the teacher's job to respect each student's individual process of learning.
My students have gone on to become recording artists, Broadway performers, movie actors, Blues and cabaret artists, and published writers.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises.
Acting
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

*** Studio Equipment ***
home- 10 minutes away from Manhattan with piano, seating for parents
-practice studio seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a piano, cd/mp3 player and an large library of songbooks to work from. The student should bring sheet music of songs they want to work on and a recording device.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching how to sing rock, pop, musical theater, jazz, cabaret, and blues without hurting the voice as well as method acting instruction.

I have been teaching this subject for over 13 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected primarily from the Broadway and West End rep based on the student's learning needs and with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique (enunciation, breathing, pitch/intonation, etc.) and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• the studio space is also inhabited by two lovely cats. Do consider this when signing up for lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Pearl River 48" professional studio upright piano
Yamaha DGX-650 weighted 88 keys full sized keyboard
area for parents to sit and observe lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Main area is in classical music and media scoring with secondary focus on musical theatre vocal performance and composing/arranging.

Troy is a really patient instructor. I started these lessons as an adult with no prior musical training. I am enjoying the lessons and despite the fact that I never quite have enough time to practice as I should, sometimes even only having the lesson time with him, I still feel I made some progress. I also enjoy the discussions we have on music theory. I am trained as a scientist and when I read theory I have parse it through my own way of thinking about things. I find that Troy is a really good teacher and able to communicate in a manner that is easy to understand. I highly recommend him!

Rachelle has been absolutely wonderful for my daughter as she's prepared for her college vocal audition. Within the small town she lives in, my daughter didn't have access to quality vocal instruction, so finding Rachelle was such a blessing. I was very skeptical at the thought of online lessons, but the quality of instruction and convenience is great. I had a good experience with customer service from takelessons.com too - I had an issue with receiving emails (on my end, not theirs) so I reached out to them to switch to a different email which they did immediately, and then they called me back to confirm I'd received everything I needed.

I teach voice in a student-centered fashion—First, I learn about the student’s interests, goals and previous vocal training. Then, I create a personalized curriculum designed to keep them interested and reach their goals. Proper technique, including warm ups and cool downs, is key. Music is my passion and I’m able to share my own professional experience as I have been singing professionally for the past 25 years. I began my career in musical theatre and then went on to lead numerous projects and bands that range from jazz, rock, and country to pop.

About Dave
My name is Dave and I’m an international pianist/singer with over twenty years experience. Music is my life and I love to share my knowledge with others. Learning an instrument is great in so many ways: it improves self confidence, helps brain development and inspires creativity.
What song have you always wanted to learn? Or what songs do your kids sing in the car? You are never too young or too old to start learning about music.
Hope to hear from you!

Learning to sing can be scary! It is my mission to provide a safe, supportive learning environment for students where they can develop skills to be a confident performer. It is important to me that students study in genres that they are the most comfortable; I myself have a love of all genres of music, including classical, musical theater, pop, rock, folk, and even punk. In my studio, students will learn and maintain a healthy technique for their instrument to be able to achieve any of their creative or professional goals. In addition to learning voice technique, we will strive towards a well-rounded music education that includes music theory, ear-training, and music literacy.

About Terry
I am a professional soprano, flutist, and composer; I graduated from Bridgewater State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. While in school, I won the 2014 Concerto Competition and was awarded an ATP Grant in 2015 for my original compositions for mezzo-soprano and piano. Since graduating, I have been active in the south shore and greater Boston area performing all kinds of Classical and Musical Theater works.

Voice students can expect to learn the essentials of healthy voice technique including proper posture, breathing, onset, etc, in a fun and supportive teaching environment. It is important to me that students are given the tools to be independent singers and artists ; so they can understand any vocal problems they are experiencing with the ability to solve it.

I love all genres of music and I prefer when students sing what
they are most comfortable performing; healthy technique can be learned within any genre.

I've been teaching professionally for about 7 years now. I teach all levels of voice (beginners are definitely welcome!!) and also work with beginner piano and guitar students at a studio near me. I really enjoy classical music, but my roots began singing and writing music. I'm a fan of teaching what people genuinely want to learn, as I have had many teachers give me repertoire or songs that killed my creativity and motivation. I prefer to look at myself as a "coach" rather than a teacher, because I am here to guide you through new techniques and to enrich the artist you already are.

My first instrument was the guitar when I was 7 years old.. I began singing and songwriting, and teaching myself piano until I was about 16 years old. My dad said to me, "You're voice is ok, but you need lessons.." (Thanks, Dad!) He reached out to a few local instructors and he accidentally hired a classical voice coach (oops). 3 years later I began college, where I studied Vocal Performance with her ...

About Alison
"Alison is a recent graduate from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance. Originally from West Michigan, she was an active member of Opera Grand Rapids and a finalist in the Opera Grand Rapids Vocal Collegiate Competition at age 19. Collaborations include solo performances with the Grand Rapids Symphony, Failure: Lab, and concerts around the community.
During her undergraduate training, she has studied and performed with the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria and OperaWorks 2016 Emerging Artist Program in Los Angeles, California. She has performed in Masterclasses with Gabriele Lechner, Ann Baltz, and internationally acclaimed accompanist, John Wustman.
She is looking forward to future performances around the Boston area and working with her own students to share the gift o
f music."

That ^ is my fancy bio.. truth be told, I love singing covers of classical rock songs, while I play the guitar or piano. I love how studying voice classically has enriched my life, but my heart lies in being knowledgable enough to teach myself songs I enjoy, and playing with my friends. I want to help my students discover their path in music, regardless of what it turns out to be. Music is the Universal language and I want it to be shared with all!

Alison, who is a kind and passionate teacher, has worked with me for the past 2 years. She and I have worked on piano and singing, and I have become more enthusiastic about what I'm doing just from her drive to make me better. Her warm up exercises are exactly what a student needs to warm up, and once you start the lesson, you never want to end. She can accompany you on the piano while you work on the vocals, but she will also help you through the vocal aspect of it. She has been such an excellent teacher and one of the best I've ever had. 10/10 would recommend!!
