As a voice teacher, I believe that my job is to allow the students to discover their own unique characteristics. I like to teach in an relaxed environment where the student will be able to develop a healthy (learning bad techniques can be harmful to the throat and body) strong techniques. It is important for the students to learn their own bodies and limit, while being taught to use their bodies to help produce beautiful singing.

Singing is more than just about using their voice and achieving proper technique.. It is equally important to learn the music history, theory, acting, etc. appropriate to the piece they are working on. When everything comes together with proper singing and the correct knowledge, students will be able to perform a piece in an intelligent manner.

Finally, something I have learned from my previous teachers, it is important to go beyond being just a teacher, and become a role-model and a mentor to my students.

Great singer and teacher

I have worked with Bo as a singing colleague. She is professional, knowledgeable, and intelligent. She has a beautiful voice and knows what students need in order to improve their own voices. Bo has a keen ear for identifying vocal faults and finding practical solutions. Whatever your singing goals may be, Bo will help you reach them.

Desiree is a terrific vocal coach! I just completed my third lesson and am very impressed with her skills and ability to refine my breathing, diction and vocal continuity. Atmosphere is extremely inviting and she is very pleasant while also staying highly focused and on task. After taking some time off from singing, I was looking for someone who could get me back in shape vocally with a combination of classic training and some crossover to musical theatre. She fits the bill very well!

Having studied classical and opera singing at Westminster Choir College, having performed as an opera singer across the country, and having taught it for over a decade has prepared me to teach beginner, intermediate and advanced opera voice students. Students will learn technique, the fundamentals of voice health, performance and auditions skills, and extensive study of literature.

About Heather M.
More important than my conservatory education and my experience as an educator and a performer is my passion for teaching music and acting and my undying belief that anyone can learn to be a musician and an actor. I'm currently available to teach lessons in my own St. Augustine home studio, in the World Golf Village area, and online around the globe.

I'm a cum laude graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and a winner of its merit scholarship.
After performing with the New York and Royal Philharmonics, the New Jersey and Virginia Symphonies, the American Boy Choir and the internationally renowned opera star, Andrea Bocelli, studying opera and piano at Westminster Choir College and performance art and improvisational acting at East Carolina University in North Carolina, and appearing in shows and pageants across
the east coast, I found my life's work in 2003 when I began teaching music.

I've successfully taught hundreds of different students since 2003, from 5-year-olds with special needs to middle-aged professional opera singers, from a professor in Saudi Arabia to a 65-year-old doctor of music, from kids of Radio Disney to students of the famed Actors Studio in New York, from busy stay-at-home parents to retirees with bucket lists, from CEOs to touring singer-songwriters.

I've created and led a workshop about singing called, "The Whole Body Singer". I've written dozens of articles about music and music education for the blog at TakeLessons.com.

My extensive knowledge of the voice has encouraged and empowered hundreds of singers and prepared many of them to win competitions, pageants and auditions, as well as roles in operas and musicals.

Having both taught myself piano and received formal training at a conservatory has prepared me to teach almost anyone how to play.
The intensive training and education that I received at Westminster Choir College in songwriting, music theory and sight reading has benefited my students at every level.

My current work as singer and keyboardist in the acoustic rock duo, Timberwood, has strengthened my knowledge of a broad range of styles and genres. I have a strong commitment to continuing my education. That's why I recently (2014) studied songwriting online with the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

In the lessons that I teach, I'm flexible, positive and encouraging. While I want my students to have fun and love music, not dread it, I expect hard work and persistence. I am caring, patient, nurturing, and compassionate. In piano lessons, I usually allow the student to choose a piece with which to warm up and then move on to technique and repertoire. In voice lessons, I usually warm up the singer and discuss technique and sight singing before focusing on song choices. Joan Frey Boytim wrote a book for voice that I like to use, and I like the Estelle Liebling exercises for the more advanced singer. Hanon exercises are a big part of my piano curriculum, and I enjoy the Bastien and Alfred books for young and old. I have used completely random songs pulled out of a piano bench and a karaoke CD for kids. I will use almost anything I can get my hands on if it means effectively teaching music.
Acting lessons consist of exercises and games that apply learned concepts, and monologue and audition coaching. Parents, siblings and spouses are always welcome to observe lessons quietly.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an acoustic guitar to bring to both voice and guitar lessons. I expect my piano students to have a piano, an organ or a keyboard.

***Home Studio Equipment***
In my home studio, my students will have access to an acoustic guitar, an electronic keyboard, an acoustic piano and PC audio recording.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching classical, country, pop and musical theater singing, classical and pop/rock/chordal style piano, and sightreading, including solfege syllables. I enjoy using Estelle Liebling as my voice method and Hanon for piano technique. My education includes coursework in jazz and pop theory and songwriting from both Westminster Choir College and the Berklee College. Teaching special needs individuals is also one of my specialties, and one that I highly enjoy. I've been trained in Meisner technique, and have experience in both theater acting and musical theater.

Heather was great at helping me improve my singing. We did online lessons which made timing really difficult to work on and this was one of my biggest challenges to begin with. The internet was occasionally failing or very delayed. The upside was my busy schedule allowed me to keep up with the lessons for a while until I couldn't anymore. Heather is very musically talented and good at explaining how singing should feel which helped me to sing higher notes than I ever imagined I could. I wished our lessons could have been in person.

Mia is an absolutely outstanding teacher. I came in for my first lesson horrified to sing, not knowing anything about performing. And in just a few months of learning with Mia I was cast in my first show. Fast forward a few more months and I have been accepted to the college of my choice in their Musical Theater program. In just a year she has helped me achieve my goals that seemed so out of this world to me in the beginning but now are a reality. She is not only amazing at the technical stuff, but she is so genuinely invested in helping you be the best that you can be. She changed my life and I'm so grateful to her.

I received lessons from Katherine over the summer. This was my first time with online lessons, but took lessons before from someone else one on one. The attention to detail, new techniques, and patience from Katherine far out weigh the one on one received. Katherine is an exceptional instructor, knows her stuff, with a wonderful sense of humor to boot. I will be taking lessons again-time and money permit-and she will be my instructor. I highly recommend her for any style of singing. I am skipping my way to a better voice. Thank you Katherine

Most teachers "vocalize" or "warm you up" for 5 or 10 minutes and then the lesson is spent just singing songs with no real emphasis on how to execute awe-inspiring and healthy singing.

Working with me is a truly distinctive experience, much like a workout with a trainer (Don't laugh because I'm a little overweight!). We will spend the hour working on very physical and concrete exercises to build a comprehensive technique that will support you through any genre of singing. At the end of each lesson, usually about 15 minutes, we can work on you
r chosen repertoire. Utilizing both vocalise and song literature of your choosing, we will go through very pragmatic and utilitarian methods that will generate an easy, free and uniquely individual sound.

I have studied, sang, and performed a variety of styles: opera, musical theater, classical songs, and have even worked with rock singers.

About Tyler
Tyler Stampe is an international award winning composer from the state of Iowa, USA. Stampe has written for many mediums including film, opera, choir, orchestra, chamber and solo instruments, and electronics.

As a teacher, Tyler has taught voice, music theory, sight reading, and composition lessons to students of all ages. He has a degree in music education, a degree in composition, and is currently finishing his final degree.

When taking lessons; you can expect to achieve the following:
Fundamentals of singing
Building singing skills
How to read and write music
How to listen to music
Sight Singing
Scales
Key signatures
Intervals
Dictation
Chords and how they work
How to analyze music

Here are a few reviews from students I have taught:
Mr. Stampe was a great teacher. He was always professional and fair about his tests and gradin
g. Aside from the basic music theory 1 curriculum itself, he gave the class additional input that gave some of the concepts more context. I learned alot. Most of all, I appreciated his willingness to help me on an individual basis. I don't think I grasped some of the concepts as fast as other students, but Mr. Stampe was always there to lend a helping hand. At times, I'd run into him just as he was leaving the building, but he'd still help me with a homework problem or two. He didn't have to do this, but I'm thankful that he did. I'd recommend Mr. Stampe to anyone wanting to take Music Theory.

Mr. Stampe is an absolutely fantastic teacher. I doubt I would have learned as much as I did throughout the Aural skills sequence at UGA if he wasn't my instructor. He just has a way with teaching and getting concepts across that is very effective. He goes above and beyond to make sure no one in the class ever falls behind, and is very understanding and willing to give extra help. He's so great!.

I love Mr. Stampe, he was very helpful and took time out of his schedule to help me when ever possible! The only thing I would say is try to include more dictations in class, don't focus as much on theory behind it, deffinetly still go over it but just not as much. For example it really did help though when, you would go over the functions of each chord and note. Thank you for a great year!

I thought that Mr. Stampe was a very good instructor. He was always willing to meet outside of class to help you with questions. He also tried to explain things many ways when you don't understand. He is very smart and good at what he does. I hope to h

During my training as an Adler Fellow at the San Francisco Opera, I performed everything from Sondheim to Wagner, and I firmly believe that with good technique, you can easily sing in any style, as I often do. I can work with any age of student, and I am excellent at balancing professionalism with accessibility. Marina is a natural teacher. She loves to share what she has learned about music and singing. She has a gift for sight reading, and memorizing, which she can do almost always at first read. Everyone in her studio has mutual respect, including her. She has been my student, but now, she is my teacher. With an open mind, she welcomes the chance to learn from others, including her students. She is highly qualified, with a BA in Music from California State University Long Beach, a Performing Arts degree from University of Southern California, a summer with Music Academy of the West, as well as the Merola and Adler programs with San Francisco Opera. An excellent performer, she gives 100% to all her roles, no matter how small, and helps other cast members and crew whenever she can. You will be very pleased at your progress, when you work with her.

She really brought her out of her shell and made her feel comfortable, AND she'll be singing the lead in Little Shop of Horrors at school this fall!!!!! We are sad to see her go to New York and we miss her but know she had to follow her career. We love Marina!
