About me!

I am a Westminster Choir College '11 Alum  who graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Music, summa cum laude. I also have my master's degree in music therapy from Drexel University. I am also a Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a  Board Certified Music Therapist. During my time at school I performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center, and did music therapy work with older adults, as well as disadvantaged children and parents.

I also have my own parent/child music class I host every Thursday September-May. It's never to early to start a music education!

I have been teaching for over four years and now have a studio of more than 70 happy students. Teaching music is my passion, and I love seeing students grow!

I often draw upon my experience from my master's degree in music therapy, which taught me that music can have a profound effect on the human brain and upon cognitive development.  My skills as a music therapist allow me to better understand a student's cognitive strengths and areas for improvement, and to develop individualized teaching strategies which utilize student strengths.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studios are equipped with keyboard, guitar or piano, as well as a sizable repertoire of classical, broadway and popular music. ' I also have a mirror for voice students to see how their body is moving when singing and visual tools for students like scarves, whiteboard, markers, crayons...ect. I am more than happy to help students find any music they may need for lessons that is not already in my library.

I recommend the following books for piano students (listed by age):
Ages 4-6:
My First Piano Adventure, Lesson Book A with by Nancy & Randall Faber
Ages 6-12:Piano Adventures - Level 1: Lesson Book [Book]Faber Piano Adventures

Ages 12 and up:

I specialize in ear training, sight-singing and knowing and understanding vocal anatomy. Many of my students are students who have gone on to score lead roles in their schools or community theater performances, as well as lead singers of local bands looking to improve their techniques and improve their vocal health.

I specialize in theory and sight-reading for piano and theory students.

I also specialize in teaching those with special needs.

About Donnie
Want to carry out at least one of your life goals? Well, if one of your goals is to learn the guitar, I can certainly help you!

Hi! My name is Donnie and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons for several years and have loved helping my students, Kevin, Andrew, and Avery (all of whom have left 5-star reviews) reach their goals! I strive to not only give my students exercises and riffs to learn, but to teach them the reasoning and Music Theory behind those notes and chords.

My teaching style is committed to showing you "how" to learn and not just throwing various songs, scales, and techniques at you. I will be firm and provide you with the accountability you need to move forward.

My favorite artists (many of whom have songs that are taught as part of my curriculum) are The Beatles, Metallica, Santana, Stev
ie Ray Vaghan, Nirvana, Green Day, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Avenged Sevenfold, and many more!

Additionally, in 2017 I was given Takelesson's "Student Favorite" award. This means that I have consistently ranked in the top 15% of Takelessons teachers based upon reviews, number of students, and student retention!

Guitar has been a love of mine since I was 9 years old and I enjoy helping other people realize their full potential! I have training in standard notation and tablature, and I am equipped with the resources necessary to get you going quickly!

I graduated from Liberty University in 2018 with a Bachelors in Business Administration degree. Each week, I teach around 35-40 students! I am looking forward to helping you reach your goals!

Please feel free to use the "Ask a question" feature, I will reply to you as soon as possible.

Brooklyn-based private music teacher operating in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Over a decade of experience teaching a broad range of styles to students of all ages and backgrounds. Strong focus on the individual student's personal interests and goals. Master's degree in music with years of experience touring globally and recording for both major and indie labels.
Whether you're looking to begin your or your child's guitar learning experience, or take your playing to the next level, it's my passion to get students playing the music they want to play, right from the beginning!

About Ken
A recent transplant to the Park Slope area, I'm a composer and multi-instrumentalist originally from Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to receiving my master's degree in composition from Mannes (The New School), I was the lead guitarist in the indie rock band Annuals. As part of this group I signed with two major record labels, appeared on national television programs such as Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and performed globally both on tour and at prominent festivals such as Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury (England), and Roskilde (Denmark).

I have been teaching private music lessons for twelve years, both freelance and as part of various organizations. My approach to teaching is highly dynamic—I don't use the same method with every student and I have no stylistic prejudices or an agenda to push. I approach each student as an individual
, tailoring lesson plans to suit their personal goals and interests. I have experience playing and teaching an extensive range of styles including pop, rock, jazz, country, metal, and classical. One of my main goals is to foster a sense of musical understanding with every student so that they may learn to combine technical, theoretical, and aural skills into a unified whole.

Most students want to learn to play songs they know and love. To that end, I get students playing the music they want to play right from the beginning, often through personally crafted arrangements of songs/pieces of the student's choosing, specifically tailored to their current skill level. This way, technical and theoretical skills are learned through direct experience with actual music, and only very rarely through rote exercise.

For more advanced players, I offer an array of strategies designed to take your playing to the next level. I find that the most common shortcomings of advanced players are conceptual. The technical skills are there but the level of conceptual and theoretical understanding has hit a wall. Many players find themselves playing the same chord shapes, melodic patterns, and harmonic progressions over and over again. I've had much success over the years in getting advanced students out of this rut and helping open up new pathways for exploration in both improvisation and composition.

I've been playing off and on for 15 years and am mostly self taught. I knew what I wanted to learn but was having trouble figuring it out on my own. In the first lesson Ken was able to zero in on what I want to learn and the best way to go about it. In three lessons I feel that I understand the guitar so much more than I have in the past 15 years of playing. Not only from a technical standpoint, but also in a "feel" sense. On my own I could learn all the scales, chords, and songs I wanted, but Ken has helped me to make sense of everything and use these skills to become a better player all around.

I am a classically trained guitarist with 9 years of experience. Whether you are young, old, or somewhere in between, the best time to learn a new instrument is now. Learn classical pieces by greats such as Sor and Villa-Lobos, or how to play any of your favorite acoustic artists. If you are a beginner, I can teach you how to read sheet music, understand music theory relevant to guitar, and apply proper finger-picking technique. For intermediate learners, we can venture more in-depth into theory and repertoire, especially that of the classical genre. Your skill level is always taken into consideration, and lessons are designed to help you accomplish the best guitar skills in the fastest amount of time, no shortcuts needed.

About Joey
I am a violist, guitarist, and composer with nearly 10 years of experience. I recently received my Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Tampa, and wish to pass on my knowledge and skills to those who are interested and willing to learn.

Viola students will learn to maintain proper bow-hold and left hand positioning, and more advanced students will work on easy shifting of the left hand. Focus will be mainly on technical exercises and standard repertoire, including solo and ensemble pieces, though students always have freedom to choose to learn any piece within their ability.

Guitar students can learn either classical or acoustic styles, both of which will emphasize finger-picking technique. Technical studies are a large part of standard guitar repertoire, and will be the focus of lessons, along with any pieces that students
would like to learn.

I am almost entirely classically trained, and by this nature I will focus on more classical aspects of music, though I always love to teach more contemporary aspects of music and learn right along with my students!

I started teaching while in college - being able to share my passion for music is great! I graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2017 with my BA in Music Therapy. I am currently a board certified music therapist working in a local nursing home. My music therapy background allows me to approach lessons with a creative hands-on approach. I like to get beginners playing as soon as I can! I also include ear training and theory to round out lessons.

I am a good teacher because I get it ... I remember what it was like to be learning piano. It's like it's own language! I am kind and patient and I want to develop a lifelong desire for music.
Also, I promise I will not poke your fingers with a pencil if you mess up fingerings.

About Amanda
I remember my very first piano lessons - taught by my mom because she wasn't convinced that piano was something I would stick with. I was so excited! Music was fun! Well not always fun ... the songs got harder and my fingers had to learn how to move in unnatural ways. Sometimes I would get frustrated. BUT the passion still remained.
