My students should expect a well-rounded education on cello involving technical studies, playing in a variety of styles including, playing solo works, and having a great time!

About Nicolas
Hello there!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2 years. During this time, I was able to take lesso
ns from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

Nick taught orchestra at my child's school and was across the board disliked. He was sarcastic, condescending, and unfriendly in manner. Communicating with him was very unpleasant. So much so that the administration had to step in. Two years of him was enough to sour my child on the violin.

I teach beginner cello primarily using the Suzuki books, but supplement with other materials when needed. My students work on scales and rhythm constantly to improve their tone and musicality as well as technique. I teach classical, religious, fiddle, and more. I also teach group ensembles, trios, quartets, and I work with students on their school orchestral and audition pieces.

About Erin
My name is Erin. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in Violin. I began studying violin at the age of six. I have performed with small chamber ensembles, orchestras, quartets, and trios. I enjoy playing for churches and weddings, and love teaching.

I began teaching beginner to advanced Violin and Viola in April of 2001 in NC. I moved to California in the fall of 2008. Since moving to California I have extended my teaching to beginner Piano and Cello also. I have taught students ages 3 to 87 how to play and enjoy music on a personal level. My experience includes leading sectionals for middle school orchestra, organizing and instructing small ensembles, and organizing student recitals. Student recitals I arranged once or twice a year to showcase the
students' growth and abilities, and to provide an opportunity to give back to family and friends whose sacrifices and support enable the students to succeed.

I teach because I love music and I believe God has given me a gift. Playing and teaching help me to use my talent for His glory. I love working with people and I love how music enables people of all ages to open up and express themselves in a positive way, no matter what life throws their way. I believe music teaches discipline, builds self esteem; helps set and achieve goals; and positively affects and enhances other curricular endeavors.

My teaching philosophy is to always have fun while learning, to set attainable goals for the student, to learn through encouragement and discipline, and to help students come to love music on a personal level. I focus on the character of each student and their goals and desires to see that the student and/or parents are satisfied. Teaching is a privilege for me that I do not take for granted.

*** Lesson Details ***
I offer half hour, forty-five minute, sixty minute lessons, or longer on a weekly basis, but I do Not offer bi-weekly lessons. My lessons begin with the fundamentals of music. I believe a firm foundation in rhythm and reading is important because a student may switch musical instruments one day and the basics are universal and necessary. I have a deep love and appreciation for music which I hope to instill in my students as well. I am strict in the sense that I like students to polish their pieces before moving on. I like to keep them focused on playing well, not just playing.

A typical lesson will begin with scales to warm up, a review of the previous week's material, and a new assignment. Students will memorize pieces, be proficient in scales and rhythms, and all the while laughing and having a great time. I am known with my students for my creative analogies and flexibility to try new things in order to adapt to the students strengths and weaknesses. My students look forward to coming to their lesson, and that is very rewarding as a teacher.

I primarily use the Suzuki method for Violin and Viola, because it offers progressive steps to mastering technique, style, and musicality. My curriculum includes the use of Winning Rhythms, Wohlfahrt studies, All for Strings Theory, Essentials for Strings, and many more beginner and advanced studies; including shifting and double stops.

I love music and I love working with people; teaching is just icing on the cake. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and discover your talents and I hope we can learn together. I look forward to meeting you!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music Stand and Keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have their instrument, and necessary accessories ie: rosin, shoulder rest, strings, books, and music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I teach Music on Violin, Viola, and Piano, as well as beginner cello. I am very creative in my teaching methods, though I use the Suzuki Method primarily for string instruments. I believe learning should be fun. I teach all the fundamentals of music from the beginning: counting rhythm, scales, reading music, theory.

Students can expect fun and thorough lessons. I set high standards for myself and expect the same from my students- beginning with technique and working through reading. Students brand new to cello begin learning by ear, ensuring a strong musical foundation. Depending on the age and stage of the student, reading will be introduced separate from playing cello when ready. When students have reached an adequate level of playing, I will introduce reading while playing.

About Sierra
Sierra Reiten, of Key of Si Music, often jokes about having actually begun her musical endeavors while still in utero! Born into a family of musicians and daughter of a loving violin teacher, Mrs. Reiten began learning to play violin as soon as she could say “violin!” Mrs. Reiten is a teacher and freelance musician. Playing experiences include the Oregon Cabaret Theatre, Portland Community Music Center, Oregon Shakespeare Festival Daedalus Project, Southern Oregon University Theatre, Camalot Theatre and various freelance performances.

Mrs. Reiten has dedicated her entire life studying the violin emphasized through the Suzuki Method. She has ten years experience teaching private violin and seven years teaching group classes and ensembles featuring violin, viola and cello.

At Key of Si Music, she teaches violin, viola and preschool
Kindermusik classes. She is currently the orchestra director at Madrone Trail Public Charter School. Mrs. Reiten has served as a violin consultant to the South Medford High School orchestras and has taught at a variety of fiddle camps. Mrs. Reiten prepares her students for performances of all kinds, ensembles to orchestras, auditions to solos.

A graduate of Oregon State University, Mrs. Reiten receives on-going training with Suzuki Specialist Kendra Law and has had extensive training with industry leaders such as Faina Podolnaya, Sherry Kloss, and Shelly Rich.

Music has been my passion my entire life. Through lessons with me, students will develop not only a love for music, but the skill to create it. I aim to foster an environment where students feel safe to continuously challenge themselves, knowing mistakes will happen. Students learn more than the notes, they learn to breathe life into them. All I require is a cello, rosin (dark rosin is my personal preference), a music stand, and a willingness to learn. Contact me and we'll make music together :)

About Angela
Music is a universal language, one that can evoke powerful memories, ideas, beliefs, and emotions without the use of a single word. Learning to play an instrument allows you to sharpen your coordination and math skills, fosters your perseverance and sense of responsibility, and relieves stress. I consider it a privilege each time I pick up my instrument and create something beautiful, whether it's just for me or for an audience. And I consider it an even greater privilege to get to share this ability with others.

My teaching style differs based on the needs and goals of each student. For younger students, I incorporate games into the lessons that assist in posture and technique. I also like to set up reward systems for students to encourage practice time. For adult learners, we can work together to establish a pace that you are comfort
able with depending on what your goals are for the lessons (even if it's just enjoyment!)

If you have any questions about what lessons would entail, you can email me directly at angiemary34@gmail.com.

I have been teaching private lessons since 2008. I have performed on movie soundtracks and was a guest soloist with Hamline University Orchestra. I am certified in Suzuki Method and also teach traditional lessons. I've worked with students age 4 to adult.

You are never too old to begin! I've worked with beginners of all ages.

Playing is about so much more than just classical music and scales! Although we love scales. Scales are how we show off how fast we can play. In addition to solid fundamentals of technique and musicality, I teach a broad range of styles including folk/fiddle, pop, and movie and video game scores. You'll get to learn the music that YOU want to play!

About Alex

I've been playing in symphonies for over a decade, have been principal violist and a featured soloist, and performed as a session player on movie scores. My daughter, Ada, was losing interest in her violin lessons and not making progress, so we signed her up to take lessons with Alex. This turned out to be the best decision that we could have made. Alex had excellent rapport with my daughter and was quickly finding important practice points for her to focus on. Even more important I was impressed with the multitude of solutions and exercises that Alex came up with to help my daughter get beyond her problem areas, and bad habits. On top of this, Ada was having fun, and was getting really motivated to practice. Alex’s attention to detail, excellent skill on the instrument, creativity with exercise ideas, and persistent yet friendly character were the perfect ingredients for a positive and productive music lesson experience. We would still be taking lessons with Alex if she still lived in our area for sure. (She is also an incredibly talented composer, which is a great thing for young musicians to learn about).

Alex is a truly gifted teacher. Teachers like her are rare especially when it comes to the arts. Not only does she make lessons fun but she also has the ability to put people at ease. Alex is also great at teaching those with learning differences. I Have extreme learning disabilities along with visual perceptual processing difficulties and thus have many blocks in place when it comes to learning things such as theory. No matter how long it takes me to understand something Alex is ever patient never giving up on me never getting frustrated with me. She has found many ways around many of the blocks that I have with theory. When I first began lessons with Alex I couldn't clap or count rhythm unless I had the main part. Since taking lessons with Alex I am now able to count rhythm better when I am not the main part. I would highly recommend Alex to anyone looking for a great teacher!
