All that I request from a student is a desire to learn. I will work with you at your pace to achieve the musical goals you have. Each student begins at a different level.

The first lesson will focus on your musical background. If you are a beginner, that's no problem. I specialize in working with beginning students to teach them all the joy and satisfaction there is in mastering an instrument.

I love to laugh and the lessons are very laid back and fun, but I desire that a student move forward and learn new techniques.

You will be playing simple songs after your first lesson. I'm asked many times by students "how long will it take until I'm good." My answer is: that is in direct proportion to the amount of time you dedicate to practicing. After a month or two, you will know how to read music and have a basic understanding of music theory.

I use various curriculum depending on the student's need. For guitar, Hal Leonard or Mel Bay.

About Don

Don brings over 38 years of teaching experience in Piano, Voice, and Guitar. His relaxed and humorous approach to music encourages students to embrace a love for the musical art. With 2 American Idol finalists to his credit, along with numerous students who have gone on to professional careers

After years of working on my scales and feeling like I still didn't know my way around the guitar, Tom was able to explain how to play scales vertically in both major and minor keys in just one lesson. No one before him had been able to explain it in such a way for it to finally click for me. Since then, I feel like my shredding skills have improved 10 fold and I have fallen even more in love with playing and jamming along to my favorite songs. Tom is patient, kind, calm, and an incredibly skilled guitarist that anyone would be lucky to learn from!

His focus on rhyme will be sure to help you become a great guitar player. Above all he is a great person and fun to be around. After taking lessons with Tom my guitar skills and musicality vastly improved. I highly recommend him has a teacher.

I was out of town when my 15-year old son had his lesson with Kevin, so I sent a text to my son to find out how it went. "He is the best guitar teacher ever!!" my son replied. I think that says it all.

I teach the basics of learning acoustic guitar technique including: Selecting an appropriate guitar for the student, correct holding of the guitar, finger and hand placement, guitar notes and scales, guitar tablature, reading and playing guitar chords, strumming and picking, playing guitar songs from most genres and music theory. I also teach electric bass guitar and ukulele, beginner through intermediate. I teach guitar in most genres of music (except hip-hop and rap). I have been playing acoustic guitar since I was 10 years old, and have a great deal of experience in playing most genres and techniques, I am used to accompanying groups of people in different settings on the guitar. I learned to play ukulele as one of my first instruments. I learned to play electric bass guitar in stage band and in a rock group in high school. I love the guitar and it is one of my favorite instruments because of its versatility.

I'm glad I found Paul on takelessons.com. I was looking for someone to help me take my decent but untrained voice to the next level. Paul is committed to helping me advance toward my goal of being a singer-songwriter. In addition to the exercises we work on to strengthen my voice and gain control, he has given me some strategies to track my progress and improve more quickly. He also encourages me to take risks and go out and sing karaoke. He is caring and authentic and genuinely invested in my growth, and I am becoming a better musician because of it. Thank you, Paul!!

"Dennis has been a wonderful guitar teacher and mentor for me over the last 18 months or so. I am in my mid-50s and was starting essentially as a beginner when I signed up to work with Dennis. Thanks to Dennis' patient and individualized approach, I have made great strides and am pleased with how I have progressed. While he is a very accomplished guitarist, he is also a very experienced teacher. Dennis' teaching approach is not to ask the student to follow a rigid learning plan or replicate the journey he took to mastering the guitar, but rather focuses on tailoring the lessons to the student's abilities, musical interests, time constraints, learning modes, etc. The bottom line is that I enjoy working with Dennis each week and practicing what he has taught me.

The pandemic has obviously thrown a big wrench into the giving of guitar lessons. Before, Dennis was teaching me at his house. We now meet online using the Takelessons platform. Online lessons took some getting used to and are clearly not optimal, but I think Dennis has become more and more adept at making it work as well as possible.

I heartily recommend Dennis as a guitar teacher."

"Trevor is one of Austin's best kept secrets. He is an incredibly experienced and skilled musicians. More so he is great at translating those skills to his students in an easy to grasp way. I went in to his class intimidated by music theory and within a couple months I was running through scales and grasping the concepts finally. His flexibility is a huge plus as well. You can make whatever you want out of your time with him, or if you need a more regimented style of learning he can do that as well. He is a patient, understanding, and down-to-earth individual whom I highly recommend. I'll be going back soon!"

20 Different Types of Guitars & The Legends Who Played Them [Infographic]

While certain types of guitars are standard in modern culture, the instrument has a wide variety of expressions that is nearly impossible to tame. From the ancient Greek kithara to the guitar-like lute from pre-modern Spain, the many different types of guitars vary just as much as the people who play them. Some types of acoustic and electric guitars are more common than others. Steel string dreadnought acoustics and Stratocaster-style electrics are likely to be the first thing that pops i …
