Hi! My name is Michelle. I’m a professional guitar and banjo player, and music teacher! I teach all levels of classical guitar, acoustic guitar, bluegrass and folk guitar. I also specialize in all levels of clawhammer banjo, but also offer 3-finger Scruggs-style bluegrass banjo lessons. I also teach all styles and levels of ukulele from basic strumming patterns to fingerpicking chord melodies.
I cater my lessons to each individual student. I love teaching all levels, so don’t worry if you’ve never picked up an instrument in your life…there’s no such thing as a hopeless case!! I work on building a strong foundation of form a
nd technique in all of my students regardless of level, whether you’re just starting out or are a more experienced player with some bad habits to break or looking to add to your musical toolbox!
My formal training is classical, I have a Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin Conservatory and a Master’s degree from Eastman School of Music, both in classical guitar performance. That being said, I’m a little different than most classically trained teachers, in that I have traveled outside of the classical world to the folk traditions of old-time and bluegrass music, and I am very passionate about this music. I also tour regularly with a folk/Americana trio called Harpeth Rising, which combines both classical and folk traditions into original music (but don't worry, it won't interfere much with teaching!)
My teaching style reflects my combination of influences. My style is fluid, and I work with each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses create a learning environment that is comfortable, relaxed, and ultimately very effective. I also expect my students to schedule regular practicing into their daily routines, which is something I also help my students with.
Thanks for visiting my page!
**Availability notice: As I am a touring musician, my availability is flexible. For online lessons, I may need to reschedule times while I'm on tour. For in person lessons, we may need to reschedule missed lesson while I'm on tour. This will happen infrequently, but I thought I'd give fair warning!
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide my own instrument, and I expect my students to have an instrument of their own. If you need help purchasing an instrument I have 8 years of experience and knowledge of fretted stringed instruments, so I am happy to help advise you once you purchase lessons!
From my lessons the student should expect solid knowledge, fun time with the instrument and great teacher.
Albino was born in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, a country in southern Africa known for its rich musical and cultural heritage. Fueled by the resourcefulness and determination that have always characterized Mozambicans, he built his first guitar at 16 from a 5-liter can of oil, scrap wood, and strings made out of electrical cords.
Drawn to the sounds of neighborhood street musicians in Maputo, Albino began to play in a number of local bands. As with his home-made guitar, Albino wanted to combine styles and incorporate diverse elements in his music. For his talents to grow, he knew he needed experience new places, cultures, and sounds.
While studying music education and Performance at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique, he heard about the Berklee School of Music in Boston, USA, where he could expand his musical horizons
. Soon after, he was one of the first students to receive a full scholarship to Berklee through the African Scholars program. In 2009, he settled in Boston, Massachusetts.
At Berklee, he was exposed to a variety of influences, but wanted to go deeper into the roots of jazz and expand his knowledge of music. He auditioned and was selected to participate in the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, which is directed by Danilo Perez and the residency teachers, including Joe Lovano John Patitucci, and Terri Lyne Carrington. The Institute emphasizes an artist's original vision in jazz, and has helped Albino find his own unique voice in the art form.
Albino still felt the absence of his own Mozambican traditions in his music. With the help of his mentors, Richard Bona and Lionel Loueke, two of the most prominent African musicians in the United States of America today, he began to bridge that gap.
Today, Albino's music succeeds in combining many disparate parts into an organic whole. It incorporates his musical experiences from Mozambique, the U.S., and many other places around the world, combining rhythmic patterns and musical concepts to create a unique Moz-Jazz sound. He will always continue to combine and capture the energies of different musical traditions to create a unified and original musical style.
Albino's original composition “Mozambique Dance” was recorded by Jazz Revelation Records, a student-run record label at the Berklee College of Music, for the 8th annual album released in 2011. He also recorded “Awusiwana,” his own composition, for the Berklee 2012 summer album. His debut album, also called Mozambique Dance, is to be released in Spring 2013.
Albino is an active musician, and has performed in several countries including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Italy, the U.S., and Mexico. He has also produced and recorded various projects in Mozambique and in the United States. In 2012, he will graduate from Berklee College with a degree in Music Production & Engineering and Performance, and a minor in Acoustics and Electronics.

Albino - I just wanted to say thanks again so much for everything you did for me, I'm having so much fun recording. I just finished up my first track and was able to include guitars, bass, piano, drum and vocals, I can't believe how quickly you taught me all of this stuff. This is a huge improvement from where I was a few months ago. Thank you again!!!

Albino is an amazing teacher and musician. He has the ability to inspire you musically and make you feel very comfortable while doing it. He has taught me many new approaches, tips, and tricks to music theory. He has helped me to be able to really understand why things are the way they are, and not just figure things out on paper like an equation. Definitely the best tutor I've ever had! I'd highly recommend him.
Excellent first lesson! I’m so excited to continue my lessons with Paul!
August 20, 2019
I'll get right to the point. Paul's personality made it extremely easy for me not only to be comfortable but to feel really appreciated. I was fearful that Paul may feel like, "oh great another person who THINKS he has something but can't sing a lick!" I experienced the exact opposite. Within 15 minutes he located what has been my most frustrating issue. I felt like I was already ahead of the game and we hadn't even started yet! Paul has the rare balance of a sense of humor and still following an agenda to meet my goal. Thanks to Paul I really feel like I can, and WILL reach all my goals. AND enjoy the journey to them!! Can't wait for the next lesson!
Through the foundation I've gained by the influences of Mel Bay, Hal Leonard, and Suzuki musical instruction methods, I compile my own teaching materials. Using personally constructed guitar lessons, I demonstrate, instruct, and guide the student based on my assessment of their individual needs, skill level, and progress. Lessons are formulated in Modules, and advancement through them is based on the student's personal aptitude, skill level, and practice commitment. Learning is accomplished by ear as well as through essential methods of musical notation (tablature, 5-line staff, rhythmic comprehension). Students are trained to perform written music as well as to write and express the music within themselves. I'm an encouraging and motivating guitar teacher with a casual relaxed approach. Teaching new guitarists is very rewarding to me. To see the light come on and watch a student perform a song, express themselves musically, and create their own composition is an awesome experience.
The key to learning guitar......is finding the right instructor!
I am an encouraging, effective guitar instructor and an experienced performing musician, offering in-person beginner through intermediate guitar instruction in my home and on line.
It is very rewarding to me to help others along the journey of creative expression through music. To see the light come on and watch a student perform a song, express themselves musically, and create their own composition is an awesome experience. To kick back after a long day and let your soul speak through a musical instrument is a wonderful release. Please let me guide you along this incredible adventure to bring out that inner artist!
You'll learn guitar playing posture, strumming patterns and an understanding of rhythm, tuning, chords progressions and chord theory, basic principle
s of reading tablature and 5 line staff, and great popular songs. You'll be playing your favorite tunes in no time!
Through formal and self- instructed lessons from age 12, I've learned country, folk, blues, rock, and metal techniques and formed several local bands as lead vocalist and lead/rhythm guitarist. Writing and recording my own music has been a hobby for over 30 years.
An active music enthusiast from a young age, I began with clarinet technique and music theory from age 9 through public schools, performing in orchestra and marching band.
I'm enjoying my lessons with Scott. He has taught me a lot. He makes playing and learning exciting. I can't wait for my next lesson.
May 12, 2018
I started with Scott as a newbie and he has definitely helped me grow as a guitarist. He takes time and makes things easier to learn. As complicated learning can be, he simplifies it and breaks it down. When I feel like I’m not progressing he always shows me how I am. His modules are easy to follow. His teaching style is compatible with all types of learners whether you are visual, hands on or a listener. It’s not just business with him. He’s always available for questions after or between lessons. He’s knowledgeable in equipment so don’t hesitate to ask for some advice on what to buy. He’s affordable and lesson times are flexible. I highly recommend him for all ages and learning needs.

Scott has been a great help to me, filling in the gaps and teaching exactly what I request: techniques, specific songs, and lesson times at work for me. He communicates well and follows up after each lesson with emails.
I teach since 1996 and every minute with a student counts, every note they learn to play, every skill they develop with my guidance is a joy for me.... I feel happiness by helping others find a new way of saying and feeling (through music)... I also love to play music with my students.

Excelente profesor de guitarra, para los que comienzan y para los que aspiran a un nivel superior, me encantaron sus clases.
Hello there! My name is Tyler and I would love to teach you or your child how to play the guitar.
I purchased my first guitar when I was 8 years old and was so excited to learn how to play. I took my first lesson a year later, but was disappointed. I didn't find it fun and therefore didn't want to practice. I wanted to play songs, but all the instructor wanted me to do was learn basic theory. After not making progress... I stopped the lessons. The next year I tried a different instructor, but still did not learn much. The issue for me was playing guitar wasn't fun for me at this point. And that is the most important thing in my opinion if you are going to dedicate yourself to learning to play. A few years later... I discovered punk rock music and online guitar tabs. Suddenly, I was able to look up on my own how to play songs that I was actually excited to play. This changed everything. I started to practice daily. Within a few more years... Suddenly, I was able to look up on my own how to play songs that I was
actually excited to play. This changed everything. I started to practice daily. Within a few more years... I could handle almost any basic chord progression and lead guitar riff. I started to write songs and began producing recording sessions in my early 20s. I still play every day and would love to get you or your child as thrilled about playing the guitar as I am. The way I believe to best achieve that is start off by teaching you to play some simple songs that you are excited about.
If you already know some guitar basics... but want to expand on them. Then I'd love to help you with that also. I can teach how to do improve your ability to play solos, fingerpick, etc.
I am totally passionate about teaching, and I provide that spark that motivates my students into getting the best out of themselves.
I follow a modern customer-oriented approach based on win-win and long term success. The guitar student is an aspiring virtuoso, and I am as patient as possible with the students and following their own desires.
As long as he/she focuses on the image of the perfect player he/she wishes to become, I am committed to the full extend to motivate, encourage, help, assist, suggest improvements, correct mistakes, answer questions and everything that will speed up the student's ramp-up into becoming that perfect player.
Master professional guitarist with 25 years of experience playing a large variety of genres such as classical, blues, jazz, country, heavy-metal, flamenco, and more.
Cosmopolitan modern musician, songwriter, and improviser with a worldwide background including European, Latin, African, Middle-Eastern and Asian genres.
Exceptionally trained musical ears allowing seamless integration and pairing with bands and music setups.
Experienced guitar instructor and mentor focusing on achieving personal goals of each of my students coming from various skills, ages, backgrounds, and locations
Great band leadership and team-building skills based on goal driven and a win-win approach.
As a music guitar lover, I have been sharing my passion for my art gradually as soon as I ramped up my instrumental mastery. I have been free
lancing with guitar mentorship and tutorship for about 10 years now, and have had students from all over the world.
I mainly specialize in 2 types of students: - Entry level students who are just getting started. Sometimes these students don't even own an instrument, sometimes they barely know what a guitar is made of. - Players with a few years of playing guitar abilities who stalled for various reason: not enough practice, not enough motivation, bad habits initially acquired that hindered their progressions.
I can play a large variety of genres, from blues to jazz, metal to flamenco, classical to folk, etc. I stress on acquiring good habits early on while adapting to the student specific skills, or sometimes, limitations.
I usually group all guitar skills in 3 different categories: - Chords - Arpeggios - Solos I then break all the unique intricacies and specificities based on the student interest and existing skill. Everything else depends on the student's favorite genre. My standard procedure is to pick 3 songs from a genre that the student wants to play, ordered by level of difficulty, and break them down into fragments that subsequently constitute the homework for the next sessions.
My specialty is to make sure the student eventually becomes self-reliant and independent. I teach them the power of their ears. I teach them techniques to help them improve their ears to be able to play any song that they would like in the long term. There is a bit of theory involved, but it's mostly practice.

Best instructor ever
June 2, 2019
Mr. Allouch is an excellent instructor. For me, placing my fingers on the guitar is hard, but he taught me to put my fingers in a perpendicular position and to make sure to press hard on the string so it will make a good sound. Thanks to that advice, it is easier to play the notes correctly. He has made it fun for me to learn guitar. He is an excellent guitar player and I am very happy that he has shared his passion with me. Merci beaucoup Mr. Allouch!
I’m a self taught musician and would like to help you learn too!
Hi, there! My name is Amber and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2017 and have loved helping my students learn songs that they love and feel more comfortable performing. I'm a fun and dedicated teacher and I look forward to helping you reach your goals!
"Jarred is hands down the best guitar teacher you could ask for. As I am a working adult and it’s tough to take the time to learn new things, Jarred takes
each lesson at my pace. He also makes sure I am pushing myself week to week so I’m not going too slow either. Other guitar teachers have discouraged me from playing as they have a hard time explaining where to start and get the confidence to keep at it (some are even more interested in showing you their skills instead of teaching you). Jarred is the exact opposite of that. He took time to understand what I wanted to learn and focused on improving my struggles in a way that built my confidence instead of bringing back any past discouraging memories. Instead of quitting again, I now look forward to playing guitar and after a month and a half can play a good chunk of Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. This is your guy if you really want to learn how to play!"
"I loved taking guitar lessons with Lola! She's excellent with beginners of all ages. I've seen her coax actual chords out of clueless eight-year-old and
empower adults to take the stage for the first time ever. Lola is a wonderful encourager and always easy to work with."
"I'm a pianist who has mucked about with a guitar for a few years by myself, not making much progress. After a couple of months with James I've really come
a long way, both in terms of technique and style, and understanding the different ways you can think about playing. Great teacher - I enjoy our lessons immensely."
"Stephen is knowledgeable, hilarious, and easy to work with. He makes learning a fun and creative process and works with my schedule to make guitar an impo
rtant part of my life. Thanks to him I am cruising along and finding that anybody can learn well with the right teacher."
"I took lessons with Jake for several months before he had to attend college and I learned various songs at a level that was pretty advanced. He was very p
atient and it was a great way to get going on the instrument and learn a bit of music theory. Being able to play songs I liked was encouraging and while I'm still taking lessons online, I think the chops I learned with Jake have helped me tackle new songs by myself. Thanks so much!!"
"My 5 year old started with Keith while he was working at Jaime's Music in Bayonne. I've had nothing but a great experience with him. I was apprehensive at
first, as I was told by other teachers that five was too young, but Keith helped us find the right guitar for him. My son is seven now, and although Keith isn't his teacher anymore, he's made a lasting impression. I even learned a little guitar, too!"
"I've been taking lessons from Ahmad for a couple years and can say he is a very engaging and knowledgeable instructor. Ahmad is experienced in many diffe
rent styles of music and can help you to play anything you want. He will also show you the techniques necessary to play any song and the theory to go along with it. It's a bit overwhelming, as learning guitar isn't an easy process, but Ahmad is more than capable of guiding you wherever you want to go.
Ahmad was recommended to me by a co-worker but prior to discovering him I researched a few other instructors. Ahmad seems to be quite generous with his time and fees compared to other instructors I researched. He is also very flexible when it comes to teaching venue and will teach at your house if desired.
Based on my experience over the past two years I can highly recommend Ahmad Lee if you are looking for guitar instruction."
"As a 47yr old total beginner, I can't say enough about how much Francesca has inspired me. So patient and supportive, best instructor ever. I would defi
nitely recommend her to any new student or burgeoning artist looking to take their craft to the next level!"
