I am currently pursuing my doctoral degree at the Eastman School of Music in vocal performance and literature. I believe in empowering my students so that they can sing in all styles of music that interest them with ease and freedom. Good singing is good singing and I am comfortable teaching classical, musical theater, pop, jazz, country etc. I like to set up my students with a strong foundation for singing so that they can practice efficiently and overcome vocal obstacles without my instruction.
Hello everyone, I am Michael - I am currently in school at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY pursuing my doctoral degree in vocal performance and literature. I have sung all over the world in operas, musicals and with professional choirs. I enjoy teaching all levels of singing and love to inspire my students to reach their full potential. Singing should be fun and it can become even more exciting when the fundamentals start to fall into place. I am a casual but professional teacher and like to tailor my teaching to each one of my students. I like to make singing a very concrete and sensation based learning experience so students can rely on more than just their ears to guide themselves. Good singing is good singing, period - any genre ,any style... it all stems from the basics and setting up a strong foundation on which t
o build the voice.
American baritone Michael most recently performed the role of Lieutenant Audebert in Silent Night by Kevin Puts with Buffalo Opera in New York. Other recent credits include: Sam in Trouble in Tahiti by Leonard Bernstein at the Aspen Opera Center, Marcello in La Boheme by Puccini in San Diego, CA and Tom in Gershiwin’s, Blue Monday with Opera de Tijuana in Mexico. Michael will return to the Aspen Opera Center this summer to sing Frederick Egerman in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. Most recently on the concert stage he was the baritone soloist for the Monteverdi Vespro della Beata Vergine at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City under the direction of Dr. Craig Jessop and Haydn’s Seasons with the Eastman Philharmonia in Rochester, NY. In 2016 Michael received the second-place award in the Palm Springs Opera Guild Rossini Competition adjudicated by the famous Rossini tenor, Rockwell Blake. Michael is currently pursuing a doctorate in music performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where in 2019 will sing the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
Great teacher - funny, patient and understanding. I look forward to more lessons with Michael in the future!

I started lessons with Michael having done both contemporary voice and years of choir. But prior to training with Michael, I'd never really been coached as to how to properly sing in a classical style. He's allowed me to find an entire element of my voice I didn't know I had and made it incredibly straightforward to progress. I now absolutely love singing in a way I didn't previously think I would.

Michael is knowledgeable, funny, and thoughtful. I am a wind instrumentalist, and Michael tailored voice lessons to discuss topics specifically related to my areas of experience. I would highly recommend Michael for voice lessons!
Learn to develop a healthy technique for singing in the classical style with proper vowels, breathing, space, and placement. Learn songs and arias in English, French, German, and Italian.
I have a Master's in Vocal Performance from Portland State University, and over a decade of vocal training and performance experience.
I teach voice lessons to kids, teenagers, and adults, ranging in ability from beginner to experienced. I have helped the beginning students learn to match pitch and read notes on the staff. My voice students learn to sing with purer vowels, increased breath support, and to access greater vocal range.
I teach beginning piano to all ages. I teach students as young as 5 as long as they are able to stay focused for the duration of a half hour lesson. Most of my piano students are in the 7 -10 range, but I teach some beginning adults as well.
I travel to some students in N and NE Portland, but I vastly prefer to have students come to me. For students in Vancouver, WA, I do ask that they come to me.
*** Lesson Details *** Voice students will learn to improve their technique through proper breathing, correct vowels, space, and resonance. I teach repertoire based on the students' interest, but I am well versed in classical and operatic repertoire in English, French, German, and Italian, as well as some musical theatre and jazz. I also teach pop songs for those who are interested. I can help you improve your technique for whatever style of music you want to sing. For adults, I recommend an hour voice lesson. For kids, I recommend a half hour voice lesson, and half hour of piano if they are not already taking it.
Piano students will learn to read music, play with correct form, learn scales, and improve their musicianship skills. I teach out of lesson books (mostly Faber) to improve technique, but I want students to learn supplemental pieces that are fun for them as well. For piano beginners, I recommend 30 minutes. Once the student is a little more experienced, I like to have them for 45 minutes.
I hope to share with you the same joy I get from making music!
*** Studio Equipment *** My studio at home has a piano, my music library, a large mirror for aiding the student in observing their vocal habits.
*** Travel Equipment *** For in home lessons, students will need to have a keyboard or a piano in a space free of distractions. Students should have a neat, three ring binder to hold any loose sheet music. Piano students need a regular notebook to write lesson assignments.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in teaching classical art songs and musical theatre.
Voice Performance students such as myself were expected to be able to sing a wide variety of art songs, sacred music literature and arias in English, Italian, German and Latin among other languages. We performed in various venues such as the Kimmel Center and Carnegie Hall and took numerous classes in proper classical diction and performance.

I have been teaching for over four years and now have a studio of more than 70 happy students. Teaching music is my passion, and I love seeing students grow!
I often draw upon my experience from my master's degree in music therapy, which taught me that music can have a profound effect on the human brain and upon cognitive development. My skills as a music therapist allow me to better understand a student's cognitive strengths and areas for improvement, and to develop individualized teaching strategies which utilize student strengths.

Great start. Ryann learned a lot already. She can’t wait to return.
I have a M.M. in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and have extensive operatic training. I teach an open throat technique (appoggio) that allows the singer to sing with freedom, and access their entire range evenly. I also work with students to develop style, interpretation, languages, and acting ability.
I have extensively studied vocal performance for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master of Vocal Performance Degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, where I extensively studied the anatomy of the voice. I am the founder of BAWS Studio where we train artists in all aspects of performance (singing, songwriting, recording, piano, and guitar). I previously worked for a recording studio (Sound Summit Studios in Naperville IL) where I teach voice and help singers record their music in the studio. I have previously taught at The School of Rock in Indianapolis Indiana. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. Several of my students have recored albums and are currently performing all over the World.
I have a bachelors
degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectations that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.
*** Lesson Details *** Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique from day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer's voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.
During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.
*** Studio Equipment *** Piano, recording equipment, large collection of sheet music
*** Specialties *** I specialize in helping students find their true singing voice.
So far, lessons with Ben have been VERY good (and productive! I'm naturally a reserved person, but He has gotten me to push beyond my comfort zone (that is "be louder"), which in retrospect has also helped me build my confidence in other areas. So at this point I look forward to having lessons, because I am growing in my understanding of how to use this God-given gift; a gift that's meant to be shared (not hidden away in silence).

Made me feel very at ease for my first singing lesson. Looking forward to the next.
Lessons begin with a physical and vocal warm-up. After working on breathing and vocal technique exercises, the second half of the lesson is spent on song repertoire.
The studio fosters a life-long love of and appreciation for music. Voice lessons include classically-based vocal technique, as well as musicianship and interpretation. Cross training between genres, from early music and opera to musical theater and pop, is my specialty. Learn the technical nuances necessary for healthy singing in any style.
Adhering to the highest artistic standards, students learn to tell inspiring, moving and engaging stories. Students are empowered to courageously step outside of their comfort zone and to embrace their fearless self-expression.

I cater my voice lessons to the type of music the student enjoys singing. I teach the classical techniques and provide vocal exercises that help the student learn proper technique for breathing and focus. The classical "basics" can be applied to any type of music. So I can help a student with any style of music as long as they learn the basics first. I want lessons to be fund and enjoyable, but I do have an annual recital which provides an opportunity for my students to perform in front of the other students to gain a great experience. For my students who wish to pursue a musical career, I have access to festivals where they can compete for that experience.
Music has been part of my family for generations! I LOVE music! I have specialized in voice and piano lessons for many years off and on. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, with a focus on piano and voice. I enjoy catering my lessons to the student's interest. I want them to enjoy coming to lessons and enjoy learning! It is very important that all of my students learn the "basics". However, we can still learn songs that they want to learn, while also learning songs with specific technique involved. Come see what music is all about! My hope is that I can show you just how fun music can be! I believe that you can learn music if you want to and that you are NEVER too old to learn!
I believe that singing is about so much. It is a way to express yourself, it is a way to gain confidence, and it is a wonderful discipline. I want to help you find YOUR voice. It would be so much fun to get to work with you on anything you might need: sightreading, Choral solos and music, your favorite pop of country song! Anything that interest you!
I am an opera singer and voice teacher. I received my bachelors in vocal performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where I taught secondary lessons through the conservatory. I have performed all over the United States and in England. I am currently studying at The Eastman School of Music as a master's student. After graduation from Oberlin, I began my private studio in Texas. My weekly lessons numbered around 60. Over the last 4 years, I have taught students with a variety of interests and goals. It is important to me to find the one thing that excites my students, be that a certain song or style, or maybe how to be more comfortable singing in their church choir. In lessons, not only do we work on vocal technique, we focus on what makes their voice unique, special, and all their own. Students will always have a new building block t
o practice each week. My intention is to inspire my students to have a discerning ear and to appreciate all that goes into making a voice work. My students have been accepted to major college voice programs, as well as participated in competitions and summer programs around the United States.

"Patticia is extremely dedicated and passionate about teaching and everything she sets herself to do!"
"I have studied voice for over 17 years. Amongst my teachers there have been famous singers who have performed at the Metropolitan Opera House, La Scala a
nd Covent Garden. and yet none of them compares to Jane. She has very accurately and promptly identified my problems and targeted them proficiently. She is very energetic, eloquent and enthusiastic. It is clear that Jane herself received excellent instruction and made the most of it. Jane communicates effectively, and more importantly, teaches from the heart. In a few lessons my choirmaster and others have noticed significant improvement in the quality of my singing."
"Fawn has studied at the best schools in the world, with the best teachers. She has industry, teaching and performance experience. She asks for your goals
