During my time with students, I strive to assist them in taking risks, discovering the joy of music, and making progress with their singing. No matter what their goals are- All-State Choir, opera, musical theatre, or just having fun, I love helping them reach them. By looking at different genres of vocal music, we will focus on many different aspects of singing, from music theory, to expressive performance, to the foundation of healthy singing.

I believe that every student is unique and learns in his or her own way. Therefore, I tailor the pace and focus of lessons on each student’s interests and abilities. I believe it is integral for all students to have an understanding of music theory and therefore, work on theory and sight-reading. In addition, I think a well-rounded musical education is key, and work on an array of genres with my students including folk songs, art songs, and musical theatre. Students will work on 2-5 songs at once, and will consider a song "learned" once ...

About Megan
At the age of 4 I began producing musicals in my basement with my sister. This progressed to acting classes, piano lessons, and eventually the school musical in sixth grade. I began taking voice lessons when I was in eighth grade and have never looked back. Through high school, I focused on both classical and musical theatre genres, having leads in high school and community musicals and operettas. While attending the University of Delaware for my Bachelor of Music, I majored in Applied Music: Voice and had the privilege of performing lead roles in Sweeney Todd, The Pirates of Penzance, The Marriage of Figaro, and Die Fledermaus. In addition, I performed two recitals. I was also fortunate enough to be a member of the University of Delaware Chorale, traveling to both China and Spain for tours and competitions. I then attended UD for my Mast
er of Music in Vocal Performance where I maintained a full studio of undergraduate voice minors as a Graduate Teaching assistant.

I took my first pedagogy class at UD and began teaching voice lessons at the Community Music School during my junior year. My experience as a teaching assistant shaped me into the teacher that I am today. I love teaching and helping students reach goals! With my thorough pedagogical training and varied performance experience, I have a great deal to offer my students.

I feel equally at home working on musical theatre and classical styles with students. I have experience working on both with students.

Megan was the best voice teacher I've had. She was very personable and friendly and more importantly, she was very supportive of my goals. She really emphasized bringing out the 'free' voice as opposed to just molding it towards a particular style, which helped boost my confidence. Highly recommended!

Meg creates a very welcoming and nurturing environment where students feel safe to grow and learn.

Meg is a wonderful teacher who I would recommend to anybody. One of the things I loved about her was how patient she was with me, even when I became frustrated with myself. She creates an open and warm environment where I felt free to make mistakes and explore my voice, but would always have learned something new at the end of each lesson.

Do you love opera? Give opera singing a try with the solid foundation of breath support, resonance, even registration and character development required for the stage.

Includes singing technique, movement and gestures, repertoire selection, musicality and interpretation, diction, pitch memory, sight-singing, etc., with a focus on opera and classical vocal repertoire, according to the student's experience and needs.

About Barbee
Welcome to my teacher profile! My name is Barbee and I am an active professional singer with over ten years of piano and voice teaching experience. I enjoy teaching both children and adults. Check out my specialities and see if you think we'd be a good fit! Then, feel free to click "Ask Barbee a Question" if you'd like more information from me!

Both voice and piano lessons are based on a foundation of healthy technique while incorporating musicianship skills and encouraging the student to develop their own creativity. While my focus as a performer is opera and other classical music, I am experienced in teaching Broadway/musical theater, pop, rock, R&B, folk, and other styles and genres. I encourage my students to explore new styles and apply good technique to any style they may choose to sing or play.

I also specialize in helping p
repare singers for auditions for college, performing arts schools, choirs, musicals, and competitions. As an active performer myself I have auditioned many, MANY times for different organizations. I have also been on "the other side of the table" and I know what qualities audition panels are looking for. Several of my current and former students have been accepted to college music programs, performing arts magnet schools, audition-only choirs, and theater programs to continue their studies. Let me help you show your best qualities at your audition!

As a member of both NATS (National Association for Teachers of Singing) and ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) I am constantly working to improve my teaching skills by keeping up with the latest pedagogical research. I love sharing new tips and techniques with my students!

I strive to create a lesson environment that is open and honest, where my students are never afraid to ask questions or try something new. I am always happy to explain concepts in a different way and I encourage improvisation and creativity in addition to healthy technique and strong musicianship.

In-home lesson equipment requirements:

What happens in a Lesson? In order to train your physical voice, it is necessary to do vocal exercises, in the same way that one needs to train at a gym. There is no "magic key" to unlock one's voice; it is a matter of daily practice and muscle strengthening/stretching. So, the first part of the lesson will be focused on vocal exercises specifically tailored to YOUR VOICE and its needs. The second half of the lesson is the fun part- SINGING! We will work on any songs and styles that YOU choose. Whether you want to sing Rock, Country, Pop, Musical Theater, or Classical, there is a healthy and communicative way to sing!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a keyboard. The student should provide a recording device, iPhone, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Classical and Broadway style singing, but have extensive experience in Contemporary Commercial Music as well. I teach a healthy approach to all styles, and modify technical approaches towards the genre that the student is most interested in.

Classical and Operatic singing are the pillars of good vocal technique. From my own personal experience, I've learned any voice can benefit from learning Operatic music.

About Justin
Can you rely on your voice to always be there for you? After singing, does your throat hurt? Do you want to learn how to belt? Can you let it rip when no one's watching but you choke up when you step in front of a microphone? Do you want to learn a vocal technique that just works?

We welcome all levels of experience and styles of voice. Become the singer you were meant to be!

Justin Pollinger is a vocal coach, singer, performer, and educator based out of Jersey City, NJ.

During his high school years, Justin discovered his passion for music and education. Kenneth Brown, his former choral teacher, and mentor recognized Justin's untapped potential. He taught him the fundamentals of choral conducting, vocal technique, music theory, ear training and repertoire selection. Justin was a member of the award-winning Edison High School Choi
rs, NJ All State Choir and the NJ Region II Chorus.

Justin has spent 14 years studying under some of the best vocal coaches in New York and New Jersey, including Sarah Bachman Krieger (Manhattan School of Music, The Juilliard School), Steven Schnurman (The Juilliard School) and; Katherine Wessinger (University of Michigan). He currently studies under Melissa Perry (Westminster Choir College, Temple, and post-graduate work included 750 hours with Maestro Vittorio Rosetta of La Scala) While doing studies at Westminster Choir College, he studied with Tenor Eric Rieger (Eastman School of Music).

Justin founded and directed The A Cappella Choir of Middlesex County. After a successful first year and a full-length album, The A Cappella Choir sang at Carnegie Hall for the premiere of Eric Whitacre's electronic opera "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings"

Justin was the head of the choral department at the New Dover United Methodist Church in Edison, NJ. He directed and musically directed production's of The Rocky Horror Show at the Villagers Theater in Somerset, which subsequently moved to The Den Nightclub and ran for 2 consecutive years.

Justin has organized, directed and performed in fundraisers for the Edison high school Choral program, the program that first honed his raw talent and a place that to this day he still can call a home.

As a performer, Justin was seen as a backup singer in the Bryan Hansen band. He has participated in theater all over NJ and is frequently hired for studio session work. He recently contributed backing vocals for Mike Wells' upcoming third studio album.

Justin has been teaching privately since 2007 (Justin Pollinger Vocal Studio). His Students have been accepted to some of the top music programs in the country including Westminster Choir College, Boston Conservatory, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Mason Gross School School of the Arts, The Hart School and AMDA.

"Justin is so much fun to work with and always makes me feel good about performing, even when I get discouraged. He has helped me to discover a side of my voice that I didn't even know I had."
- Debbie Lingel

"Justin has been a miracle worker with my vocal development. I have gone through several instructors for numerous years and no one could tell me how to actually find my own voice. Justin was able to do that immediately and I was sold! Since then it has been a gratifying experience with our weekly lessons. Knowing I have Justin's techniques in my arsenal of tools make me a much more confident artist on stage. I can't thank him enough!

I went to Rutgers: Mason Gross School of the Arts for Vocal Performance as a freshman in Fall 2008; by the Spring of 2009, I was no longer a music student. Singing quickly became a laborious activity instead of an enjoyable past time; I felt as if I became incapable of adequately expressing myself because I was bogged down by a pretentious atmosphere and a teacher who lacked any sort of gravitational pull. Justin is the complete opposite.

I started studying with Justin in September 2013. He's so incredibly realistic. He lacks any form of pretense and his personality is so magnetic. Every time I walk into my lesson, I'm ready to go. He creates an atmosphere that is just so easy to adjust to, and he listens. I'm so grateful to have found him. In a little less than a year, he's helped me restore confidence in my vocal ability and gain back years of lost discipline in such a short time. He will hold you accountable without alienating you and for me that's invaluable. If you're looking for someone warm, but disciplined, Justin is your guy.

Working with Justin has helped me make enormous strides musically! Our lessons have transformed my voice, prepared me for the competitive world of singing, and given me the confidence and knowledge needed to succeed. In just one or two lessons I progressed in ways I never thought I could and opened up to different techniques that I did not even know existed. Justin is fun and easy to work with. His encouragement and spirit will push you to reach new heights and truly refine your vocal technique.

My focus in lessons is on healthy vocal production with an emphasis on physiology. Because singing is very technical I want my students to feel comfortable in their understanding of their instrument. In this way, during performance situations they are able to let their musicality and acting shine without being hindered by vocal difficulty. Depending on the students need diction, music theory, and sight singing will be addressed.

About Natalie
Natalie E is a soprano based in New York City with experience singing in houses across the country. Natalie was educated in voice performance at the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) where she received her BM in 2011 and MM in 2013. Natalie has placed in competitions such as the Peter Elvins Vocal Competition, the Brookline Music School Vocal Competition, the Baur Scholarship Competition, the Corbett Opera Scholarship Competition, and the New York Lyric Opera Theater National Vocal Competition.

Natalie 's focus in lessons is on both healthful and beautiful vocal production as well as musicality. Depending on student's needs sight singing, music theory, IPA and diction will be addressed. Audition and competition prep as well as recital opportunities are also available.

I am a professional operatic soprano who has performed leading roles with the San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Pacific Opera Project and so many more. I recently relocated to NYC from LA, so my rates are on the low side as I build a new studio. I specialize in helping students relieve vocal tension and pressure, as well as teaching proper breath support and Bel Canto technique. During my training as an Adler Fellow at the San Francisco Opera, I performed everything from Sondheim to Wagner, and I firmly believe that with good technique, you can easily sing in any style, as I often do. I can work with any age of student, and I am excellent at balancing professionalism with accessibility. My lessons are a completely judgement free zone, your comfort and freedom to relate to me on your level are of the utmost importance. Most importantly, you WILL make progress in each lesson and you will leave feeling better and more confident after each lesson. Let's get to work!

About Marina
Do you want a professional, relatable, fun teacher who actually cares about your vocal progress? Are you struggling with your technique or feeling fatigued? Are you tired of paying teachers exorbitant rates and not seeing results?
Benefit from my twelve years of experience as a professional opera singer and technical background to give yourself the edge for your upcoming auditions, school year or just for fun! I have sung leading roles at the San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and so many more, and I know what it takes to make it on a professional level. I also know that singing is an intensely personal experience, and I provide a non-judgmental, relaxed environment that will help you flourish. Most importantly, I will teach you the basics of Bel Canto technique, with proper breath support, so that you can easily sing any style of m
usic without strain or pressure. I have studied with the top teachers and coaches in the nation as an Adler Fellow and I can address any vocal issues you throw at me, with zero judgement. Marina is a natural teacher. She loves to share what she has learned about music and singing. She has a gift for sight reading, and memorizing, which she can do almost always at first read. Everyone in her studio has mutual respect, including her. She has been my student, but now, she is my teacher. With an open mind, she welcomes the chance to learn from others, including her students. She is highly qualified, with a BA in Music from California State University Long Beach, a Performing Arts degree from University of Southern California, a summer with Music Academy of the West, as well as the Merola and Adler programs with San Francisco Opera. An excellent performer, she gives 100% to all her roles, no matter how small, and helps other cast members and crew whenever she can. You will be very pleased at your progress, when you work with her.

About Samantha
Hi, all!

My name is Samantha Park, and I am a recent graduate of Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York! I majored in vocal performance. In this degree I studied language and musical diction (Italian, German, and French), Music Theory and Aural Skills (ear training), Music History, Acting and Opera Theater, as well as Vocal Pedagogy, which is what inspired me to teach! I have a passion for interpreting the relationship between music, language, vocal technique, and performance, and a philosophy of mine is that telling a story is what separates the singer from the performer. In our lessons we will study vocal technique, language meaning, pronunciation, and we will discuss the meaning and context of every song or aria. I believe this is the best way to create an impactful singer, and it makes singing all the more enjoyable when you
can understand what you're saying/why you're saying it! I would love to teach those that want to be taught, and establish a relationship that is tied together through music!

I studied jazz and contemporary music in Berklee School of Music, in both locations: Boston and Valencia. I speak spanish, english, italian and french, so the lessons could be in any of these languages. I use all the registers the human voice has: chest, head, mix and whistle. I can belt and teach how to do it for rock singers and how to mix for musical theater and pop music. If your interested in opera, I will teach you how to develop your full and real voice using your whole body, not just your head and 'mask'.
There's just ONE technique for all singing styles. You can sing anything and sound great and big, even without the microphone. I'll help you to reach that goal.
