Private Opera Voice Teacher

With 2 years of college level operatic vocal training, Liz teaches how to shape vowels in many languages, and how to project and maintain an operatic vocal style.

About Liz

After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. All summer, she taught class sizes ranging from 10 to 26 students of the ages 5-10. Her initiative later led to being hired at this local community theater. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, flute & voice lessons for over 10 years. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own as well as even auditioning & for agents and becoming signed artists in Los Angeles. Liz knows that it is her place in the world to tea

ch music & spread positivity through her own music and would love nothing more than make learning music a positive and fun experience for everyone.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach out of the Alfred's Piano course, but am open to trying out any music books you may already have in your home. I do expect my students to purchase the books they would like to learn out of and to have the material I have given them for homework ready, completed, and practiced by the time we have our weekly lesson. I recommend at least twenty to thirty minutes of practice every day, and will give rewards for having practiced well, and for performing well in our lessons. I would love it for my students to be clear on what they would like to learn, and I love using songs that the student enjoys to make his or her music learning process fun.

***Rates****
$100 per hour lesson | $90 per 45min lesson | $60 per 30min lesson
*A travel fee may be added for house calls.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my home studio, I have a full size Cable-Nelson upright piano, as well as three ukuleles: 1 acoustic soprano*, 1 acoustic electric & 1 acoustic tenor, and three guitars (one left-handed acoustic 3/4 size guitar*, one acoustic-electric and one electric) as well as an electric bass guitar & acoustic mandolin & mini drum set & cajon, as well as several percussive instruments.
*Some Instruments now available for rent! Inquire for details.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When I travel, I bring my own instrument that the student is learning on so that I can demonstrate, as well as a music stand if necessary.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, folk, opera, musical theater, classical, rock, reggae.

This is my specialty! I currently perform at opera houses all over the US, and can help you begin your classical journey, or for the more advanced student, prep audition repertoire and work hone technical skills.

About Katelyn

How I Can Help You:

I have worked one on one with music students for 10 years. I have extensive experience in teaching classical, musical theater, and pop styles of singing, as well as acting for the stage and beginning piano.

Whether you are a beginner, or a veteran musician, I can help you cultivate your musical skills.

About Me:

I am a classically trained singer, with a master's degree in music from The Peabody Institute. I have performed at The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, The Tanglewood Music Center, several local and national opera companies, and have been positively reviewed in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Baltimore Sun, and The Boston Globe.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each student receives a personalized lesson plan, based on his/her goals, and musical background.

My singers are all trained in a cla

ssical technique, even if they specialize in contemporary singing, to help them avoid potential vocal injury.

My piano students learn to read and play music at their own pace.

My acting and spoken voice students learn to feel comfortable reading clearly, and reciting/performing on stage or other public areas.

My music theory students work one on one with me, learning basic theory (note names, durations, etc.) to advanced theory, ear training, and composition.

I am flexible and am willing to work with students of any age and level. I only require that students practice and enjoy the music they make.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room in home with seating for parents.

*** Specialties ***
I am a classical singer, and specialize in classical voice training. However, I also have extensive experience in other singing styles, from choral to popular, and acting/oratory. I have a minor in music theory, and have taken advanced courses in music theory pedagogy.

Private Opera Voice Teacher

I am currently pursuing my doctoral degree at the Eastman School of Music in vocal performance and literature. I believe in empowering my students so that they can sing in all styles of music that interest them with ease and freedom. Good singing is good singing and I am comfortable teaching classical, musical theater, pop, jazz, country etc. I like to set up my students with a strong foundation for singing so that they can practice efficiently and overcome vocal obstacles without my instruction.

About Michael

Hello everyone, I am Michael - I am currently in school at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY pursuing my doctoral degree in vocal performance and literature. I have sung all over the world in operas, musicals and with professional choirs. I enjoy teaching all levels of singing and love to inspire my students to reach their full potential. Singing should be fun and it can become even more exciting when the fundamentals start to fall into place. I am a casual but professional teacher and like to tailor my teaching to each one of my students. I like to make singing a very concrete and sensation based learning experience so students can rely on more than just their ears to guide themselves. Good singing is good singing, period - any genre ,any style... it all stems from the basics and setting up a strong foundation on which t

o build the voice.

American baritone Michael most recently performed the role of Lieutenant Audebert in Silent Night by Kevin Puts with Buffalo Opera in New York. Other recent credits include: Sam in Trouble in Tahiti by Leonard Bernstein at the Aspen Opera Center, Marcello in La Boheme by Puccini in San Diego, CA and Tom in Gershiwin’s, Blue Monday with Opera de Tijuana in Mexico. Michael will return to the Aspen Opera Center this summer to sing Frederick Egerman in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. Most recently on the concert stage he was the baritone soloist for the Monteverdi Vespro della Beata Vergine at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City under the direction of Dr. Craig Jessop and Haydn’s Seasons with the Eastman Philharmonia in Rochester, NY. In 2016 Michael received the second-place award in the Palm Springs Opera Guild Rossini Competition adjudicated by the famous Rossini tenor, Rockwell Blake. Michael is currently pursuing a doctorate in music performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where in 2019 will sing the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

I started lessons with Michael having done both contemporary voice and years of choir. But prior to training with Michael, I'd never really been coached as to how to properly sing in a classical style. He's allowed me to find an entire element of my voice I didn't know I had and made it incredibly straightforward to progress. I now absolutely love singing in a way I didn't previously think I would.

Michael is knowledgeable, funny, and thoughtful. I am a wind instrumentalist, and Michael tailored voice lessons to discuss topics specifically related to my areas of experience. I would highly recommend Michael for voice lessons!

I am a firm believer that there isn't a single singing method out
there that really works for everyone. But rather it is about observation
of yourself without judgement and TRULY understanding how vocal
production works in your body in relation to your breath, your mind, and your soul. I am not here to dictate how you should sing in a certain way. I am here to help you and guide you in understanding your body in relation to sound production and to cultivate your own method of vocal technique in your own words and in your own logic that actually works for you.

About Cris

Cris, countertenor - is a natural male who combines sounds from the Ancient past with those of the digital era to form a unique, hybrid mix unlike any other.
Classically trained, Cris creates a crossover musical experience by
infusing pop with early music (Renaissance folklore & Baroque opera) genres. Cris has toured the U.S. with the Boston Pops and Andrea Bocelli. A highlight of appearance includes the Corona del mar Baroque Festival, the OC Performing Arts Center, the Hollywood Bowl and Seattle Baroque Opera. He is a graduate of CSUF, USC & Claremont Graduate University. Since 2001, Cris has been working extensively as a performer, voice teacher/coach,
accompanist and choral director throughout Southern California. For More Info: crislawmusic.com

This was my first experience with voice lessons, and Cris the best teacher I could have hoped for! He has introduced me to all sorts of music techniques that I’m sure I will need when I leave to study music in college, and he helped me to prepare any vocal requirements I might have to fill. He is always patient, knowledgeable, and easy to get along with; and he has inspired me to continue studying opera in the future. I would highly recommend him for any level of vocalist! :)

My goal with my voice students is to teach them how to use their voice in a healthy and natural way while maintaining the sound that got them recognition, as well as help beginners find their style. With proper technique, singing becomes as easy as speaking. Using science and understanding a singers genetic abilities, I teach my students how to get a beautiful balance between air and muscle to create a resonance that a singer can grow a wide range and build strength on without having any breaks in their voice.

Every lesson I teach is a unique and individual experience. I teach from a foundation based in the classical vocal style rooted in bel canto, however, I tailor every lesson to the student. I first determine what are the students goals and needs, and then we find the best approach for the student to learn. It is important that the student has a voice in what they sing, and how they learn; however, I will insist that they build a solid foundation to ensure that they become strong musicians who can sing in every genre if they choose, and can sing safely with vocal health as a number one priority.

About Giustino

Giustino C., conductor and baritone, is a musician with tenacity and passion. As an avid performer, vocal coach, and conductor he has enjoyed a musical career on multiple continents. His recent engagements include the role of Marcello in La Bohemé, and El Dancaïro in Carmen; he has appeared with Indianapolis Opera, Pensacola Opera, Florentine Opera, Opera Ouvert, and Opera Western Reserve. Mr. C. received his Master’s in performance under the tutelage of Dr. Kathleen Maurer. This Season he will be joining The Belle Ensemble as the role of Uberto in La Serva Padrona, joining the Little Traverse Civic Theatre in The Christmas Schooner, and performing the role of Arasamene in the World Premiere of Serse by Isaac Wittenberg.

As an educator, clinician, and vocal coach he has worked in Chicago, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Florida, a

s well as toured Europe with the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Youth Choir. He is an active member in the National Association of Teachers of Singing(NATS), and a regular adjudicator in the Great Lakes Region.

I believe that all people are singers; singing and music are the most natural human forms. Every student is unique, and every voice is as unique as a fingerprint; that is why every student and lesson is approached with the individual needs and goals in mind.

I believe that singing is about so much. It is a way to express yourself, it is a way to gain confidence, and it is a wonderful discipline. I want to help you find YOUR voice. It would be so much fun to get to work with you on anything you might need: sightreading, Choral solos and music, your favorite pop of country song! Anything that interest you!

About Rosie

I am an opera singer and voice teacher. I received my bachelors in vocal performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where I taught secondary lessons through the conservatory. I have performed all over the United States and in England. I am currently studying at The Eastman School of Music as a master's student.
After graduation from Oberlin, I began my private studio in Texas. My weekly lessons numbered around 60. Over the last 4 years, I have taught students with a variety of interests and goals. It is important to me to find the one thing that excites my students, be that a certain song or style, or maybe how to be more comfortable singing in their church choir. In lessons, not only do we work on vocal technique, we focus on what makes their voice unique, special, and all their own. Students will always have a new building block t

o practice each week. My intention is to inspire my students to have a discerning ear and to appreciate all that goes into making a voice work.
My students have been accepted to major college voice programs, as well as participated in competitions and summer programs around the United States.

"Michelle and Robert are wonderful patient and professional. My daughter 15 years old benefited greatly from the many techniques (classical and operatic)
taught by Michelle and Robert. They always stress the importance of vocal health, even incorporating stretching, proper exercises, breathing, and proper vowel sounds. Not only did they prepare my daughter vocally but taught her facial structure, posture and how to add her acting and emotion into her signing while still having a great projection. An added benefit being instructed by this wonderful duo is having the knowledge from both female and male seasoned professionals. I highly recommend you meet with them at least once and see the difference. I can't wait to see them again. Jess and Sophie"

8 Beautiful Opera Arias for Beginner Singers

By Suzy S.

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career. It’s absolutely crucial that you sing repertoire that is …
