For individuals 5 and up looking to develop or polish their musical theatre repertoire, I'm here to get you to the next level!

From classic Golden Age musicals, Disney, to contemporary musical theatre, we will work together to get your rep solid and ready for auditions (community, pre-college, college, and professional levels) and any upcoming performances or other avenues.

If you're seeking a technician who is able to coach you dramatically and be in alignment with your temperament, needs, and goals, I'm your gal!

My teaching is based in the Bel Canto tradition of classical singing, adapted for the specific demands of the musical theatre style (head, chest, mix, belt).

About Nicole
Welcome! Thank you for visiting my page.

I am a professional opera singer and native New Yorker. I am so excited to reach out to new and continuing students in NYC - for both voice and piano study at all levels from age 5/6 and up.

I am an active performer and I love to share my passions and knowledge with my students. I have 13+ years of individual one-on-one voice and piano teaching experience with students of all ages and abilities.

What sets me apart from the other teachers here at TakeLessons?

I bring a special warmth, dedication, wisdom, and commitment to our work. Lessons are not solely about technique or making good sounds, but about communicating musically in a more meaningful way, and unleashing your unique gifts.

Primarily, I focus on classical/opera/musical theatre repertoire with my voice students. For stude
nts age 12-18, I emphasize a combination of folk songs, Disney, a limited selected pop music, and more. Ages 5-11 I use a combination of vocal method books for very young singers in addition to selected musical theatre and Disney songs.

My voice students have performed on and off Broadway, been nominated for NJ Paper Mill Playhouse's Rising Star Awards, have been accepted to pre-college musical theater programs on full scholarship, have earned multiple leading roles in high school musicals and plays, have performed major choral works at Carnegie Hall, have sung in church choirs and for weddings, and have released their own pop/rock albums.

I look forward to the pleasure of meeting and working with you!

Piano Lesson Details:
We will primarily use Bastien method books, Faber Piano Adventures, Dozen A Day, and other supplemental material according to age and level of the student. Musicianship and theory skills are explored and nurtured in addition to acquiring a foundation of technique at the piano.

Voice Lesson Details:
You will explore, re-awaken and nourish your creativity in music. Develop a solid foundation in vocal technique through effective tools and exercises based in the Bel Canto tradition (addressing breath, posture, alignment, an open throat, phonation, resonance, articulation, registration)

Address your personal practice/performance goals. Deepen self-awareness (body, aural, and emotional awareness), musicianship, interpretation, performance, and musicality

Learn a variety of repertoire, according to your needs and development

Cultivate your artistry for application in practice, audition, and performance settings

-Experience JOY in singing

Regardless of age or skill level, I approach students with respect and professionalism within a safe and supportive environment, fostering enlightenment and creativity.

We will take your vocal study at your own pace through a personalized, holistic approach that will help you sing easily and beautifully. I can't wait for you to join me!

Steven has everything possible going for him. He is amazingly talented in voice!
He is honest & sincere. He cannot create a talent in us that is not there. He tested me with chords, etc. , however we do not know if I have the talent to continue. Only my first lesson. He does not believe to continue if we both feel the inert talent is not there. He is ethical & moral.
Steven is patient & calm but has this inert enthusiasm that supports you, so you feel uninhibited & give it your best when you are with him in his quiet studio.. He is totally with you every second. I couldn’t ask for a better teacher. 5 STARS!!!!!

I am studying to become a professional classical singer. Through my own training, I have discovered that having an amazing teacher – one who is supportive, caring, and hard working, and who will push you and work with you to be better – is the most important tool an aspiring musician can have. I believe that every student is different, as no person's body is the same, and no vocal instrument is the same. Based on my performance in the Teaching of Singing course at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, I was selected to be a voice teacher to non-Conservatory students at Oberlin College. I have now had several students, two of whom, with my assistance, have just been accepted to prestigious summer programs in classical voice. Though I have only been teaching voice to others for a year now, I have been teaching myself alongside my own teachers through practice and independent work for the past nine years, and I have discovered countless techniques and tricks to help every aspect of singing.

About Rachel
I am studying to become a professional classical singer, and am enrolled as a Masters degree candidate in Voice and Opera at Mannes School of Music. Through my own training, I have discovered that having an amazing teacher – one who is supportive, caring, and hard working, and who will push you and work with you to be better – is the most important tool an aspiring musician can have. I believe that every student is different; no person's body is the same, and no vocal instrument is the same.

Based on my performance in the Teaching of Singing course at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where I just graduated with my Bachelors in Music as a Voice Performance major with a Music History minor, I was selected to be a voice teacher to non-Conservatory students at Oberlin College. I have now had several students, two of whom, with my assistan
ce, have just been accepted to prestigious summer programs in classical voice.

I am a native New Yorker, and I am a proud alum of LaGuardia High School, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Manhattan School of Music's Pre-College program, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. I am also proud to have received the Graduation award for top vocalist in my year at LaGuardia. All of these programs helped to shape who I am, both as a performer and as a teacher, and I am excited to pass on what I learned.

As a singer myself, I have discovered countless techniques and tricks to help every aspect of singing, as well as the discovery that what works for some people does not necessarily work for others, and that's ok! The voice is individual because it is inherently unique to the person it belongs to. It is the exciting, demanding, and amazing work of a teacher to bring out each individual's voice, and I love discovering a person's voice with them. I can't wait to work with you and find your voice!

Experienced voice teacher of 4 years, specializing in beginner voice students of all ages. My method focuses on establishing breath support, proper vocal placement, and vocal flexibility to sing a range of styles from classical to pop music. I also specialize in audition prep for high schools with performing arts programs. I also teach rudimentary music skills such as ear training, sight reading, and music theory.

About Nathalie
I am a professional singer, songwriter, music educator, and choir director. I sing in a wide range of musical styles such as classical, jazz, pop, Latin, and rock. I graduated from the Aaron Copland School of Music at CUNY Queens College with a Bachelor of Music degree in classical vocal performance in May of 2015. I am also an alum of LaGuardia HS (also known as the “Fame” school).

I have been singing professionally as a cantor in Catholic Churches for the past ten years while at the same time gigging as a backup vocalist for synth pop and Latin music bands, singing in jam sessions during my free time, and performing original music. I am also working on my first EP slated for release later this year.

Since February of last year I’ve held the position of Director of Music at a Catholic Church in Queens, where I direct the English choir
and Spanish choir on the weekends. I also work as a teaching artist at an after school program in Queens, teaching music to elementary school students.

My teaching style is classical voice with an emphasis on breath support but I believe that having good vocal technique is easily transferable to any genre. I am flexible and willing to guide my students in reaching their musical goals!

A teacher of singing cannot actually see the student's instrument. With this in mind, we find a common language to describe the physical and acoustic sensations to determine the most healthy and long-lasting technique possible.
I have been teaching for over 7 years from beginner through advanced (graduate degree) students. I emphasize vocal freedom, resonance, alignment and posture, breath management and support, and style/expression. I try to help each student find more joy and ease in his/her artistic journey.

About Brayton
I am a classically trained singer with a graduate degree in vocal performance. I have performed in opera, musical theater, recital, cabaret, and as an orchestral soloist with regional companies around the US. In addition to teaching, I also work professionally in classical musician management, working with top tier opera singers, conductors, and directors.

I have over 7 years of teaching experience, from beginner through advanced (graduate degree) students, a number of which have gone on to higher education, teaching, and professional performing careers. Whether you are looking to audition for collegiate music program or just wanting to learn how to sing more freely and expressively for yourself and friends, I am confident I can help you develop a sustainable technique to help you progress as an artist.
