I am an accomplished flutist but just love the cello so decided to take lessons. He truly seems to enjoy sharing his knowledge.
I feel so fortunate to have found Keats because he really cares about me as an individual although I am truly old enough to be his grandmother. Outside of our lessons, he has sent me links to recordings, a new bow which I have purchased and am thrilled with, and various other cello-related matters of interest to a beginning cellist.
He does not insist that there's only one way to do things and has studied with a variety of teachers himself. He comes from a musical family so is very knowledgeable about classical music. A true musician who understands the love of music.
Lastly, I want to recommend Keats because he has a very gentle, kind manner and praises my work when it is good. He encourages me through frustrations and sets reasonable goals at each lesson.
I am also a music teacher and would recommend him for a student of any age. I know that the relationship that develops between teacher and student is crucial to a student's progress, and Keats is a real and caring person in the lesson, not some drill instructor. I think he would be fabulous with children and certainly relates very well to adults. Give him a try!
I am grateful for Mr. Keats as my piano teacher. He does an excellent job at teaching any style of music that I want to cover; he especially does well at explaining and is super understanding for teaching at whatever pace that you s

The cello is an absolutely beautiful instrument that calls countless numbers of people to play it. Adult students are sometimes the most challenging to find pieces for as they don’t want to play the “kiddie” songs that many younger students are excited about. These pieces for younger students are short, based on simple folk songs that children know, and generally do not feel challenging enough for many adult students. So what popular cello pieces are out there that adult students can u …

Cello thumb position is one of the big leaps of technique for advancing cellists and is one of the skills that sets more advanced students from the intermediate. This new technique opens up the higher ranges of the instrument and allows us to play more advanced solos and etudes. This technique is not something you should rush into though! Make sure to take things slowly at first and master the basic concepts before moving on. When Should You Focus on Your Cello Thumb Position? There have to …

As a beginner I often told myself I would know I am a really great cellist when I could play Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee at full speed. To my young ears, this simply had to be one of the hardest cello pieces with its high range, chromaticism, and famously fast tempo. As my musical career continued I worked on these and other skills to reach a point I could begin learning the piece confidently, and it was only a matter of time before I achieved my goal. Of course, this wasn’ …
