I emphasize a physically relaxed and technically accurate approach to cello playing so that students are free to create music without limitations or physical discomfort.
Though playing an instrument takes hard work, it should be a fun and enjoyable experience too! We will work together to ensure that you are learning pieces that interest you and inspire you to reach the next level. By the end of each lesson you will know what to work on for the week and exactly how to practice in order to achieve the most effective results.

Students will learn the fundamentals of music theory and history while focusing on improving their technical facility on the cello. Students also work towards building their comfort with the instrument by practicing increasingly complex exercises and repertoire.

Lessons will be highly interactive and geared towards your personal goals as an aspiring cellist.

About Laura
*** About Me ***
I am a classically trained cellist in NYC. I have a master's degree in cello performance from a top NYC conservatory. In addition to performing music, I love to teach cello lessons to aspiring musicians of all ages! My musical aspirations stem from an undying love of music and my wish to share this with others. I am friendly, cheerful, energetic, and very patient, which creates an easy atmosphere for students to tackle the challenges of mastering the cello.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching pulls from the Suzuki method and the great cello pedagogue Irene Sharp. I emphasize ear-training and a physically relaxed and technically accurate approach to cello playing so that students are free to create music without limitations or physical discomfort.

Each lesson students practice ear-training and sight-reading so they are prepared for auditions and can learn music more quickly.

Lessons will be age appropriate, highly interactive, and geared towards your/ your child's personal goals as an aspiring cellist.

*** Equipment ***
For lessons at my home, students only need to bring their instrument and their current repertoire.

For lessons at the student's home, students need to provide their own instrument, a music stand, 2 chairs, and the repertoire we are working on. I will bring my own instrument to lessons.

I can assist you in renting a cello if you do not already have one.

Laura is a wonderful cello teacher. Our daughter (10 y.o.) has been playing cello for 2 years. We just moved to NYC and needed a cello teacher. We found Laura and our daughter just had her first lesson with Laura. They reviewed skills, practiced pieces, ear training and Laura provided appropriate level workbooks at the end for home practice. Our daughter said "I can't wait to work with Laura again next week." Proof enough for us.

It was truly a pleasure meeting Concetta for my first ever violin lesson. It is difficult to learn anything at the age 40, specially a musical instrument, but she made it comfortable and easy to understand. She's extremely patient a key quality when teaching a subject such a music to anyone. I would say, give her teaching style a try and you won't regret it. Very knowledgeable indeed.

I am offering cello lessons for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students in the New York area! My rates are relatively cheap, and my lessons can range from 30-90 minutes.I am capable of working with all ages. I would prefer if lessons were held at my school, but I am willing to travel to you if preferred. I am passionate about teaching and sharing my love of music with others. I believe that teaching music is such an amazing way of connecting with others.

About Chloe
Highly acclaimed cellist Chloe H. made her debut at only age eleven as soloist with the South Coast Symphony. Her solo debut at the young age of eleven as the soloist with the South Coast Symphony launched an impressive solo career for the young cellist. Soon after her debut, she was featured as a soloist with the Torrance Symphony Orchestra, Peninsula Symphony Orchestra, and Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra. Her career as both a soloist and chamber musician has taken her to such distinguished venues such as The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, David Geffen Hall, among others.
An avid collaborator, she is actively involved in chamber and orchestral endeavors. Her chamber interests led her to study at the Colburn School as a cellist in the Ed and Mari Chamber Music Institute. She has performed several times for Juilliard’s
Chamberfest program in Alice Tully Hall, Peter Jay Sharp theatre, and Paul Hall. Chamber and orchestral studies have been with renowned artists Alan Gilbert, Maxim Eshkenazy, Peter Oundjian, Ida Kavafian, and Jerome Lowenthal. Chloe has been a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and New York String Seminar. She most recently received a fellowship for the Verbier Festival Orchestra where she served as principal under the baton of Esa Pekka Salonen.
Chloe has had the opportunity to work with renowned cellists such as Jean-Guihen Queyras, Janos Starker, Ralph Kirshbaum, Ronald Leonard, Johannes Moser, and Anthony Elliott. Chloe is currently a fourth year undergraduate student at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Joel Krosnick. She will soon be spending two more years at The Juilliard School, pursuing her Master’s degree.
Chloe upholds a philosophy of promoting potential and the best in everybody. She does not believe in working in the same exact way for each student, as she knows that each person is different. She upholds this belief firmly as she is a very versatile musician. She searches for both the strengths and weaknesses of each person, allowing there to be ample support in both areas. Ms. H believes in a fun and productive environment and looks forward to meeting each and every one of her students.

I have been classically training for 12 years. Cello is my major instrument in college, the love of my life, and a pretty good paperweight. I emphasize and enforce position and technique in the beginner levels, so higher repertoire is less of an uphill climb later.

About Ari
My name is Ari Fiekowsky, I'm 22 years old.

Currently I'm studying at Kean University, for a degree in Music Education K-12 with Teacher Certification.

I am a 3.8 GPA student who has been studying cello since I was 8 and piano since I was 3, and the other strings instruments since I was 15. I have always been good at all subjects, but have had a love for music. Music can benefit the brain in incredible ways, especially for children! Please ask me about these benefits and I can give you supportive academic research.

I have a permissive teaching style that is sensitive to developmental disability and mental illness, but also can be quite harrowing and strict if you have the desire to truly become a great musician. I practice all my instruments daily--I expect my students to do the same. :)

My specialties are strings, music the
ory, and piano. I'm very energetic and expect genuine effort from all my students. I try to make things fun, so I hope you try too!

I've been teaching strings for 4 years and I know that it's tough to set up consistent practice habits that allow you get the most out of your lessons. That's why I find creative ways to keep motivation high, engage students' interests, stay focused, and practice effectively.

Let's work together to bring out your creativity, uniqueness, and joy in music!

About Georgia
Georgia has been teaching in the NYC public schools since 2012 and privately since 2009. She has a Masters of Education in Curriculum Design from Columbia, for which she wrote her thesis on new directions in special education. She enjoys teaching both math and literacy and finding each student's unique path to loving learning.

Georgia has an arsenal of strategies for students with special needs, those who have trouble focusing, and anyone who has ever said "I can't." Some students just don't respond to the teaching methodologies common in most schools--Georgia finds another way.

She is patient, creative, and a little bit silly, and looks forward to meeting you!

I am an emotive cellist with two decades experience. As a member of the Park Quartet (the quartet in residence at Park Church) I recently performed at the 100th anniversary of McGolrick Park. I love sharing classical music with all levels of students. Lessons with me are calm, meditative experiences where we use Zen techniques to enter into the heart of music.

About Lenna
Hello cellists! My name is Lenna and I am pleased to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2011 and have loved helping my students improve their tone, learn better sight reading skills, and become more relaxed around their cellos. I studied chamber music for four years under the world famous Chiara Quartet. My favorite books about classical music are: The Art of Practicing and Just Play Naturally. I'm a kind and patient person and my teaching style is focused on comfort and emotional vibrancy in performance. I look forward to guiding you through some wonderful musical experiences.

Lenna is an incredible instructor (and person). As an adult beginner, learning the cello has been incredibly challenging (both physically and emotionally). The challenge made it hard to bond with the instrument during my first six months of technical instruction (with another instructor). Along came Lenna, and she inserted exercises into our lessons to address just this, and thanks to her, I have a more peaceful and joyful relationship with my practice. Lenna has an intuitive understanding of what her students need and how to foster healthy and sustainable practice habits. She is professional, encouraging, incredibly patient and she brings must-welcomed creativity to every lesson (in the form of improv, jamming together, describing the character of tones, and more). I highly recommend lessons with Lenna.

It’s true what the other reviews say about her kindness and patience. Lenna is a warm, thoughtful and generous human being. She also happens to be a gifted teacher and skilled cellist. She is able to correct tiny details in my playing that make a huge difference in sound. Better yet, she approaches it in a way that I might be able to make those corrections for myself, by asking me what I heard first and listening to my observations. Also her approach to practice and playfulness is something I aim to use in many aspects of my life.

I love playing and teaching the cello, and I'm so excited to share that with you. I make lessons fun and engaging, and you'll leave feeling positive and determined. I believe that the technique should serve the music, so we'll always focus on creating art and telling a story. Cello playing mirrors life, so what we do in the practice room will have much larger applications than you might anticipate! From beginning students learning the basics to advanced players who need a push in the right direction, I can guarantee you'll improve quickly and have a great time doing it.

About Claire
I'm a recent graduate of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where I recently won the 2017 Cello Competition to perform the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No. 1 with orchestra. Previously, I attended Yale University where I earned my Bachelor's degree in psychology. I have spent most of my summers performing at the Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado, and I have played in festivals from Indiana to Italy. My cello teachers have included Eric Kim (Jacobs), Richard Aaron (Juilliard), Alan Harris (Eastman School), Maria Kisoupolos (NY Philharmonic), Eric Bartlett (NY Philharmonic), and Wolfram Koessel (American String Quartet). I'm an active performer on the East Coast, collaborating with artists such as harpist Nancy Allen and flutist Carol Wincenc. I have taught almost as long as I have played, beginning with local communi
ty service and growing to teach as part of the Aspen Music Festival PALS program. I live and breathe the cello, and I can't wait to share my passion with you.

I can help the student practice and learn their way around the cello in an efficient manner. This means that I will be helping with intonation and other technique by giving exercises for the challenging passages. Lessons will be customized according to the goal of the student. Sharing my knowledge in cello and music is a passion and a goal of mine and I would love to help reach your goals.

About Alexandra
I am currently a student at the Juilliard School in New York. I began to play the cello at the age of 6. I have attended Summer programs such as Kneisel Chamber Music Festival, Heifetz International Music Institute, and the Meadowmount School of Music. Before college, I studied with Hans Jørgen Jensen, a professor at Northwestern University, and currently, I am studying with Natasha Brofsky.

I have taught in settings such as private lessons, cello sectionals, and public outreach classes. I am experienced with Suzuki and more advanced level as well. I value the personal interaction between me and the student extremely rewarding. Since I am a student myself, I can help you find different ways of practicing that works for you and can help you learn how to navigate your way around the cello efficiently.

In the end, I believe that tel
ling your own story is one of the most valuable aspects of music, and I am excited to help you to find your own way of telling your story with the cello.
